Premiere Pro Don't Respond when using Slip Tool

Basically if you use the slip tool to change a clip timecode in beta or in normal PPro, it will start to lag when the playhead enters the clip that you have "slipped" if you bring it back normal, it will not lag. I work on a Mac M2 Ultra

It has this bug with every project i made. The Clip Resolution i'm using (then i will crop both track to make a single 4k Track with nesting)

Recording Format i'm using. From what i remeber even with normal h265 (not hybrid) had the same problems. Please Fix, i'm using the Slip tool a lot!

Hi @Gabby16bit,

Thanks for writing in. I'm Kevin from support. I'm a moderator.

I'm unsure about the source of your issue. The slip tool is working OK here. Does it react as usual if you work in a sequence that has not been placed into nests and are working at the native resolution where the clip settings match sequence settings? Try that.

I also noticed you work with 8K clips and a codec called "BETA." Do you suppose the problem could be related to this format?

If that is the case, try a

If that is the case, try a standard HD clip in an HD sequence and see if you have the same problem. If so, try the same in a new project.

I hope we can help you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin, thanks for reaching out. i have also used a normal .mov file and i have prepared a video on youtube for you if you can watch it with the problem. Basically it starts to happen after a minute or so in a new project, if you start in a fresh project at the beggining you might not notice it, but try to use the slip tool and put some crossfades on a clip recorded with OBS on a mac and you will see the problem, at least on a Mac m2 Ultra: here is the video if you have the patience to watch it you will understand the problem:

https://youtu.be/MO_ULwqkrh0

(you can see the wrong behaviour expecially at the end of the video)

Thank you!

Hi @Gabby16bit,

Thank you for sharing the movie with me. While I haven't been able to reproduce the issue on my end, I can see that the tool isn't functioning as expected.

App: Since you've made some changes in the engineering tool (like the light green UI), I recommend starting fresh with a new installation of Premiere Pro.

You might also want to try testing it on the beta version. You can run both applications simultaneously.

FYI: It's best to avoid altering "flags" in the engineering tool, as enabling a flag for an unreleased (albeit cool...) feature can sometimes cause unexpected behavior in other parts of the app.

I know it sounds a bit wild!

Footage: There could be an issue with the source footage. Please download MediaInfo (free) and run a sample clip using the software. Then, share a screenshot of the results in tree view here. Could you also let me know the duration of the clips? If the footage has a variable frame rate, try transcoding a few of these clips to ProRes or ProRes LT. It might be worth testing even if you have a constant frame rate. Is it possible for you to provide a sample clip? Feel free to upload to Creative Cloud, DropBox, Google Drive, etc., then PM me the link to the footage.

Computer: You have 64GB RAM, which is a lot, but 8K clips might require more memory for long clips. Do you have access to another computer to test with?

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm here to help you through this! I hope this helps!

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin Thanks for the reply.

IMPORANT: To Make the Bug Appear, you have to use the slip tool more times, and possibile apply cross dissolve and stay inside premiere at least 1 o 2 min, trying to trigger this bug, you can see the process in the video i sent you early.

App: It has the same behaviour in the Beta, which i have not made changes in the UI ecc.

Footage: In the video i sent you, i have recorded a video that is around 1 or 2 min in 8k. So it has not a big lenght. Beside that, when i'm not using the slip tool, the video and effects ecc are all smooth and without problems when i cut normally.

Computer: i will give it a try on my windows PC (32 gb ram Nvidia3080 i9) i will post if i find something similar

This is the media info screenshot, is that what you was looking for?

I have a video that i have already edited at this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GPTZqpbBs0EghVPmXiJiUmklFK_ZePfg/view?usp=sharing

you can download it since it has similar specs to this one and had the same bug...

Thanks!

OK, thanks for the added information, @Gabby16bit. I'm sorry I couldn't help so far. Debugging this might require the expertise of an engineer (I'm in support). Sorry for the delay. I alerted the team. They are aware of this issue now. +1!

As for MediaInfo, I see you're on a Mac. You don't get the full version of MediaInfo unless you pay for it. Windows has the "tree view" in the free version, while Mac does not. Tree view provides more details. That kinda sucks. Sorry about that.

I'll keep trying to reproduce the bug based on what you added. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,
Kevin
