Project starts to open but gets stuck at 69%

Curious if this is happening to anyone else. I have a project that refuses to load. When I try to open it normally, it stops at the same spot, about 2/3 of the way loaded:

Premiere Error 1.PNG

This is verson 3 of the project. I was able to successfully load v1 and v2.

I've browsed a number of conversations with similar issues, and I've tried many of the methods that others say worked for them, including importing the project into another blank project. When I do that, it hangs at 69%.

Premiere Error 2.PNG

Sometimes it will move to 70% and hang for hours.

I

have tried this process on 3 different PC's. Here's other things I've tried:

  • Restarting Premiere
  • Restarting the computer
  • Launching Premiere as Administrator
  • Holding Ctrl+Shift while launching Premiere to reset plugin caches
  • Holding Alt while launching Premiere to reset preferences

I have a number of projects that use the same camera type footage and are built the exact same way, with very little use (if any) of VST or other plugins. This is the only project that I can't open. I have no idea why this one seems to be the outlier.

I'm currently on Premiere v23.2. Specs include AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-core 3.70 GHz, 64 GB RAM.

Anyone having the same issue? Any other ideas I can try?

I had the editor who could open the project, import it into a clean project and resave. That fixed it.

Have you tried taking the media offline and then seeing if you can launch the project?

PROBLEM SOLVED FOR ME
Hello guys,
After contacting adobe support, the only solution I've found to avoid this problem is to unlink all the project's media on another computer (project window, select all files, right-click and unlink all media), save the project and then switch back the project to the computer with the problem.
With this method, you'll be able to open the project.
If someone knows how to completely eradicate this problem please call me ahah.

so again, I had to downgrade to 2022 version...(the 5th time now) This is so annoying. If I would not have that small ammoount of time between my projects I would really have moved to davinci x times now. This program is simply too unreliable for a professional agency^^ sorry to say but Adobe is done for me... but anyways, thanks for all your help

Hey I am in the same boat! Can you elaborate on where and how you removed those plugins and cleared the plug in cache? Desperately trying to get my feature film open and I just needed to export and add credits :'( I am freezing up when opening project. I tried importing it into another project and it gets stuck at 69%.

If your project is getting stuck at 69%, I've found that you just need to sit there and wait for it to finish. It's probably having to do with the amount of media and the size of the project. Both not your fault. It's adobe's fault for pushing out updates that further break the core functionality of the app in lieu of promoting AI and other junk that we can't even find the time to enjoy because we're just struggling to make the app work.

what I've discovered is that for projects that are at all reasonably-sized, you need to adopt the Productions system, which is their weak attempt at fixing the core issue: their app is not built to handle a large project. Productions silos your project into smaller projects, allowing you to load only the material you need (say, for instance, "Rough Cut 05") rather than a bloated project with RC01 thru RC05, plus all the media from the scene that got cut and you no longer need to look at, plus your huge SFX library, and so on.

It's a PITA if you ask me, but it has alleviated at least project load times. I still however deal with MASSIVE slowdown in the timeline, where literally every click or action results in a pinwheel.

This app is an absolute joke, and I will never start a new project in Premiere again.

I disagree that Productions is a "poor fix" ... it's been an awesome workflow in my shop, allowing me to dump all the workarounds needed in stand-alone projects.

I do work for internal use in our firm, a few clients, and a couple other organizations. Using Productions means joyful bliss, as I can have ALL my assets such as b-roll, audio libraries, template sequences and such, available for ALL other projects I work on.

Without the duplicating assets mess of doing this in standalone work.

And as it's being used by a ton of long-form and episodic operations, I don't think they share your view either.

But then, we are all different. No two editors work at all alike. Allowing for that difference is a fascinating part of this industry.

Hey everyone.

I got this problem solved by starting the project without connection to the media - and then when I was in the project i Relinked the media.

My situation was that the project files was located on the clients nas server and every time im in there office i connect to it. But i had to transfered the project to my storage nas in my office do to drive maintenance. Then downloaded it again a couple of days later and went to the lokation where the project suddently didn't work.

hope this helps someone.

I even wiped my machines COMPLETELY and still have this issue where one machine can open a project and another cannot. Both machines are matching specs.

Brian, when you jump in on a preexisting thread, It's always important to provide your system info....  so please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card and if you have any 3rd party plugins installed for Premiere... Also, sequence settings and clip properties can also help. Although you can throw almost any format into premiere, some formats can be problematic, particularly on an underpowered system.  And since one system works with this project and the other doesn't, the problem may be caused by a difference in the system specs...

On the problematic system, did you try launching the project with the media offline as suggested in an earlier post in this thread?
