UNABLE TO READ IMAGE FILE: GDI STATUS INVALID PARAMETER

Community Beginner ,
May 19, 2023 May 19, 2023

I am getting this error repeatedly on all projects from the moment i open premier. I believe it has something to do with the MOGRTS that were pre-installed because i no longer can see any preview of them. just that they are installed. Screenshot 2023-05-19 161145.pngexpand image but i am unable to find any way online to solve this issue.

I recently had to re-install everything on my computer including windows but all of my files were backed up on drives and re-connected when i got it back and i did not open any programs until all files were back in their original places to ensure no corrupted files.

Can someone help?

Hi @khan28034583v3qt

Are you seeing missing thumbnails for your mogrts as well? or are you only getting the GDI Error?
Did you try deleting the ProBrowser folder as suggested earlier in this thread?

lear out the folder where the cached thumbnails are kept by deleting the ProBrowser folder.Premiere will generate new thumbnails on launch.

Hi @Julia25601075gj2t ,

That is so strange! I haven't seen this issue before but I'm asking devs what that error could mean.
Can you tell me what version of Premiere you're running and what your system specs are?

Also if you install an earlier version of Premiere or Beta, do you get the same the results?

Oh! Is this also only happening with the thumbnails for Mogrts that get installed with Premiere or Mogrts that you have created or installed from other sources?

Thanks,

Dacia

Premiere version is 23.4. On windows 11 computer. 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700F @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz running 32 GB of ram. I haven't try to install an earlier version of premiere.

Ok sounds like something is borked with your previews.

There are a couple of things that I would like you to try if you can.
The first is to close Premiere and then navigate to the folder that contains all of the cached thumbnails for the Mogrts in the Browser.
The file path on Win is:

  • Users/<your user name >/AppData/Local/Temp/ProBrowser.

Delete that folder and then relaunch Premiere.

This will force Premiere to re-create the thumbnails and hopefully get you out of this state.

If that doesn't work, then I would like you to close Premiere and navigate to another folder:

  • Win: /Users/username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Common/Motion Graphics Templates

There are should be a couple of .txt files in that folder.

Please delete those and then relaunch Premiere.

This will force Premiere to re-install the Mogrts that come bundled with Premiere which I'm hoping will get you out of this scenario.

Let me know how those things work out. 🙏🏽

Fingers crossed,

Dacia

Hi @Julia25601075gj2t

To clarify, are you not able to get the file paths to show up or you tried both things and it didn't resolve your issue?

The App Data folder is a hidden folder so you need to enable hidden folders.

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Select File Explorer Options.
  3. Select the View tab of the File Explorer Options window.
  4. Choose Show hidden files, folders, and drives > Apply > OK.

You can also just type %AppData% in the Run bar to get to access to those folders.

My apologies, I should have added that to the info below.

Even with the hidden files being shown im not getting anything coming up for those file paths. And when i do the %appdata% im not able to find the specific files that i need to delete. Maybe i'm doing something wrong but i followed the instructions.

Here is a link with screenshots. Maybe that will help get us to the folders we're looking for https://www.howtogeek.com/743079/how-to-show-hidden-files-on-windows-11/

Did you use lowercase letters when you searched for %AppData%?
It might be case-sensitive.

Here is a video using the option of enabling Hidden Folders and then manually navigating to both folders.

Re: Importing

That sounds like a different issue than the one we're discussing and I would recommend you start a new thread so that you can get the right support for that. I'm the Mogrts guy but I'm not sure what's happening there.

My best advice is to uninstall and re-install Premiere and to check if you're seeing the same behavior in the Beta version. T

I got this GDI error, then Premiere started to stall my gpu with any imported video...

Did what you suggested, only worked for text based ones....

Suggestion, that kind of worked....

I have a laptop with i9 14hx and 4070,

- Got to preferences and disabled hardware acceleration h.264-h.265 code/decode in both processor and gpu

- Imported media, restarted premiere

- Enabled only gpu decode, restarted (thumbnails slowly playing)...

- Enabled gpu encode, restarted....it kind of worked...

This work!
