whenever i cut something out of my timeline, the transcription doesnt follow and its all off.

Enthusiast ,
Sep 11, 2025 Sep 11, 2025

whenever i transcribe my timeline and then cut something out of my timeline, the transcription doesnt follow. I look at it and its all off.  like when i hit play on the timeline, the transcription is showing something totally different then what I'm hearing on the timeline. I swear the transcription used to travel with you when you cut stuff out. Premiere version 25.4.1 (Build 3)

i went to record my screen for you. the problem doesnt occur when you start a fresh new project. the problem occurs as you're 2-3 hours into the project. and deleting stuff from the timeline. it doesnt make sense for me to make another screen record for you to only see the same thing as the last screen record. theres absolutely no difference besides the fact that i'm in a different project now. You mentioned you werent able to replicate the issue. Id like to know how complicated of a project you're in, how many hours you've spent in that project trying to reproduce this issue and how many cameras you have. I have 2-4 cameras stacked and I've been in the project for about 4 hours now. I'd like to see if you got the same text transcription bug as me if you applied those same number of hours and cameras to your test.

@rachelcenter,

I recognize how frustrating this can be. Your responses are helpful. And yes, it will be difficult to catch this in a screen recording. And no, my test so far has been in a simple project in a short editing session. Remember, I am not saying that you are not experiencing a problem or bug. I'm trying to understand the conditions under which it occurs. I need to make some educated guesses as to what complexity to add. Then I'll test under those conditions.

There's another thread with this issue, so I'm summarizing.

@carley_9607, Are you still experiencing this issue? You experienced the problem on 25.5 (and maybe earlier?). Did downgrading to 25.3 fix this? What operating system and version are you on? For you, restarting the computer, clearing caches, and reinstalling PR did not fix.

@rachelcenter, you are exeriencing this on 25.4.1 and then 25.5 on Sequoia 15.6.1. The problem does not occur in a new project, does not occur right away but in a longer edit session, and is in a complex project. The static transcript workaround was not showing the problem; it is working as designed because it will always fail to change with edits. Source-media transcription editing is not working for you.

From your original post, "the transcription is showing something totally different then what I'm hearing on the timeline." So it may not be a little off, it may just look like a different section of the timeline?

Possible issues to explore include (among many others):
- Lagging due to bug or very long transcriptions or other elements. These can sometimes create the appearance that something has not updated or that elments are out of sync. I don't think this is likely.
- Overlapping audio tracks with transcriptions may create the appearance of the transcription being off or may reveal a bug under some conditions. Overlapping audio tracks with transcriptions can be challenging because, while they are working "as designed," editing overlapping transcriptions is difficult. I wonder if this might also cause inaccuracies in coordination between the transcripts and edits depending on other factors, for example track targeting or locked tracks.

Edited to correct OS version.

@georgep21368903,

We're working in another thread on source-media transcription going off after edit. Are you still seeing this issue?

I understand you can't share a screen recording. Can you share a screenshot of your timeline for a section where this problem occurs/has occurred? I'm looking for the general complexity and the nature of your video/audio tracks related to sync issue, so I can try to replicate.

Here's the other thread at my post summarizing the status:

definitely NO overlapping tracks. updated to 25.5.0 a few days ago and issue persists. issue doesnt immediately occur in a new project, takes hours for the issue to arise. i have a gut feeling premiere is getting overwhelmed witih the amount of stuff to transcribe, (like in earlier versions) . Mac os sequoia 15.6.1

@rachelcenter,

Sorry for getting your version of Sequoia wrong!

By overlapping, I include something like the 2 wav files from your screenshot. So they are not transcriptions? Are both speakers on one channel? (Which track in your screen recording?)

I've just started leveraging the Transcript for editing, in the "Text based editing" workspace. While I'm not making the cuts in the transcript, I'm using it to jump to particular points in the clips in order to quickly cut sections. Is it incorrect to assume as portions of those clips are cut from the timeline that the text in the transcript panel would be removed? It becomes unusable pretty quickly after you make a couple of cuts in the sequence, none of the dialog is in sync.

Currently using Premiere v 25.5 on M3 Ultra Mac Studio.

Thanks - Stephen

For what it's worth I figured out the issue. I was duplicating the first few sequences and dumping the current clips and adding in new clips. For whatever reason this tripped up the transcription and so the transcript for the sequence with the new clips was not the same. I assumed that the transcription followed the clips around, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Solve was to just create a new sequence - even though it required doing some extra setup, and add the new clips to the timeline.

@Stephen Barrante,

> For whatever reason this tripped up the transcription

Thanks for reporting your fix/workaround. This is reminding me of a problem I saw at some point. There are users reporting your symptom (source media transcripts get out of sync with sequence). None have reported duplicated sequences so far, but that would be easy to overlook. In any event, I'll add this to my testing!

@jamieclarke FYI.

@rachelcenter,

I have not tested this yet. Duplicated sequences may be only one source of related issues.

@jamieclarke,

There's a perverse joy in replicating a 100% bug!

PR 25.5.0 Win 11. Create sequence. Duplicate sequence. Cut section from middle. Play. Transcript has not updated and is not in sync.

Beta 25.6.0.74. Works correctly. Also confirmed the problem was not present in PR 24.6.5. Don't know when it started.

@rachelcenter,

The transcript is carried by the audio that has been transcribed. It may be possible to trigger this bug if certain files or nested files are used. I'll try testing that.

@rachelcenter,

I ran a bunch of tests trying to find some way to trigger this bug using separate audio files etc, and could not.

The easiest workaround I see is to close and reopen the project.

You could try installing the Beta to see if it fixes the issue. But a) I don't recommend the Beta for regular production projects and b) it would take a lot of work for you to determine whether your project works any differently. I think I would just wait for PR 25.6 and hope that you do not have an entirely separate issue. The symptoms are so identical I think they are related. This means the fix is likely to fix your issue too. Only time will tell.

Let us know if the close/reopen project workaround works for you.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been running into a recurring issue with automatic transcription in Premiere Pro.

When working on a project that contains multiple sequences, Premiere often “loses” the link between the transcription and the actual content of the sequence.

Here’s what typically happens:

  1. I open my project and start editing.
  2. I duplicate a sequence that already has a transcription. In this new sequence, I replace the main video clip with another one — which should obviously have its own transcription.

The problem is that Premiere keeps the old transcription from the original sequence. It won’t update or re-generate the text, even after removing and re-adding the clip.

The only workaround I’ve found is to completely close and reopen Premiere Pro, which forces the transcription to refresh.

Is this a known bug? Or is there a way to manually force Premiere to update the transcription without restarting the software?

Thanks in advance for your help,
— Sébastien
