Hello!

In the new update for Premiere Pro, I'm having issues aligning text to the centre of the screen. I don't mean  aligning the text like

this

or this

or this.

I mean moving the text box as a whole to the centre of the screen to align it perfectly. Also, how do you feel about the new update? I personally wish I could get the old text editor back so I know what to do. Thanks for any replies!

you manipulate your text parameters through the essential graphics panel. open it, choose edit and you have the familiar two icons for vertical and horizontal center.

Workaround for me is Transform/Position reset and centre text.

I love Horizontal Center. I use it constantly. However, how do you dynamically KEEP it centered?

Everyday of my life I am editing the same text box and have to click on "horizontal Center" after I change the length of the text. Is there a way to KEEP the text box centered as I type the text to a different length?

I found the (wrench), opened the settings, I turned on "Snap in Program Monitor", then I changed some words in the text box. PROBLEM: it did not dynamically center the text like I want it.

I thought well maybe I need to click out of the sequence to have it center, but no.

Any other thoughts? I appreciate your suggestions!

The auto center keys directly under ALIGN and TRANSFORM are missing in 2022 so I have to use a million key strokes on the vertical and horizontal numbers to manually center text. What happened? Where are the two buttons? please?

I'd like to know how to distribute text elements with the latest Premiere (12.0.1).

Cheers.

Right, I meant distribute horizontally and evenly texts boxes within the canvas, like in Illustrator or Indesign. Thanks.

There are a couple ways, first in the EGP panel itself, there are control icons for left, center, right, top, and bottom alignment of thetext box.

Also, in the ECP, you can move and animate individual lines of text.

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your reply. I found the panel Align and Transform. I was hoping that works like in the older versions, where for example, you could select several text boxes to align or distribute them evenly within the canvas.

If you mean to other graphics then you can use pinning. Vick on an element in the EGP panel and there's an odd looking gray thingie to the right just below the layers. You have the options to pin that element to another layer or position.

It does work like that (in Pr 12.0.1). Select 3 or more layers in the same graphic then click Distribute Vertically or Distribute Horizontally in the EGP.

What I'm looking for and maybe what the original question was about is when you just select the text tool and start typing - it doesn't open the essential graphics panel, just a text control panel in the source window. In there, I can't see anywhere to center text within the frame.

Easiest is to open the EGP to work with this process. Some of the controls are in the EGP for text control/placement, while the ECP is the primary control are for animation of text/graphic objects.

That is the Effect Controls Panel, which is not specific to Graphics and not part of the Source Monitor (it just happens to be docked with Source Mon in most workspaces). Switch to your graphics workspace and things will make a lot more sense. If you do not see the Graphics workspace tab at the top of your app window, you may need to refresh your profile/workspaces.
