Filler creates Elipsis

Participant ,

When I am looking for filler to cut out, I really don't want dead space. Yet when I cut a "Filler", it leaves "[...]" in which I have to cut that out again.

I really wish this was more intuitive. I seem to continually have to cut out "[...]" from points where that has been removed.

I would love a "CTRL-Backspace" where it cuts any filler around the part that I cut out. Therefore, I have a jump cut that doesn't have a breath, or dead space before the cut.

Windows 11 (and Mac OS [I tested both]). Example below

Hi @geekazine,

This sounds like an idea, so I moved it to that forum. I hope that's OK.

Thanks,
Kevin

No, this is a bug. I am trying to cut out dead space. I don't like the fact I have to go back and cut it out again, then again, then again.

This is not saving me time, and causing more aggrivation.

@geekazine,

For the record, I'm not sure whether bug or Idea matters in this instance: I believe it is undesirable, but it may be working as intended.

I think the ellipsis is a "pause" - hover over it and you can see the duration. In a section with 3 filler words, I turned them off (so they no longer show in the transcript), and confirmed that there are no pauses in that area. After deleting the 3 filler words, there are now 2 pauses where the filler words were.

One workflow to consider is to delete filler words, and then delete pauses.

@Kerstin Ebert @Alexander_DVA How should this work?

Sorry, @geekazine - Using the expressions "don't want" or "really wish" indicates a feature request. I was only trying to be helpful. Sorry if that sounds wrong to you. As Stan suggests, let's find out how the feature is supposed to work, and we'll move it or keep it here accordingly. OK?

Thanks,
Kevin

If a solution can be made, then I am fine with that.

I see way too many times where I have to go back and take out things such as: " (finish of sentance)...um" (or breath)

Sometimes, it doesn't even show up as an elipsis.

I am an editor that likes to do it linearly. Taking out breaks before I make adjustments (like resizing) to the clip means I might have to fix 2 clips. I think that's more work than waiting for the pause to happen and deal with it then.

It also gets me in a groove and frame of mind.
