We are gauging interest to see if our users' aesthetic needs are being met!
Is the current color scheme of the interface sleek and professional or do you wish it was lighter? Is it easy on your eyes during tedious edit sessions? Most importantly, do you wish it came in pink?

Here's a link for more details on current interface customizability: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html#brighten_or_darken_the_interface

The console is "meant" for the engineers debugging processes. Users can seriously screw things up in it.

That's why they do not allow discussions of using it on their forums.

Please please please give us back a light gray interface option. Regardless of personal preference of the color scheme (which should be user custimizable anyway...), there is a very impactful real-world reason to have a light mode option. As a television journalist, I frequently need to edit video under very tight deadlines on a laptop sitting in a cafe or in the seat of my car with the sun shining directly in--I don't have the luxury of controlling my ambient light, and often even need to dim my screen to perserve my laptop's battery. And even when I'm editing back at the station, I can't turn down the lights in the newsroom. That's just the reality of my job, and of many others in my profession. A lightmode option for the interface would be so very helpful, and it would increase quality of life tremendously.

Well stated.

We've needed the *ability* to have a lighter screen, and a choice for text/highlights colors for YEARS.

I would recommend that PremierePro allows users to chose which User Interface they want / need - to protect their eyes etc. Illustrator and Photoshop have

Settings > User Interface > Brightness > Dark / Medium Dark / Medium Light / Light

Illustrator and Photoshop prove that its possible to put users in control of the user interface at PremierePro as well - PLEASE! Gerhard

I like the dark mode background, but the contrast is very poor. The text is a dark shade of grey, and just doesn't stand out properly from the black. Changing the 'lighter' option in the Preferences -> Appearance option doesn't change the contrast, which is the issue.

Thansk for asking

I just wanted to note that I don't use Premiere Pro any more. I made the decision to use After Effects for ALL my projects, even though After Effects isn't intended for long video editing projects, I just find it a million times easier to use.

Since the very first day I used After Effects (about ten years ago), I just fell in love with it. Everything behaves exactly as you'd expect it to. Everything is precise, giving you a feeling of complete control over everything. You can position things EXACTLY where you want them, to the exact pixel. Coming from a Photoshop background, this is essential to me. You can navigate around the project easily. After Effects is probably the best application I've ever used. It just works so well. So logical and intuitive to use. I feel like IT serves ME, and not the other way around.

In contrast, Premiere Pro has got worse and worse over the years. I enjoyed using the original Premiere in the 90s, it was all pretty solid back then and I felt like I was in control over the program. But it's just become such a mess. It's PAINFUL to use now. One of the worst things is the "lunatic asylum" scrollbar system, which makes you feel like you're losing your mind as they randomly, haphazardly move around the project, leaving it more to luck and chance where you'll end up.

I could list dozens of serious problems I have with Premiere Pro but I guess this isn't the place. I'll probably make a video about that sometime because I have so much to say. I just wanted to share this decision I've made in case anyone finds it interesting. I felt so HAPPY and FREE when I finally decided never to have to battle against the mess that is Premiere Pro ever again, and instead use After Effects, the application that does what I tell it to and puts me in control.

Of course, if you love using Premiere Pro then I'm happy for you, but it just wasn't right for me!

I used After Effects when it was still owned by CoSA. It was a revelation. Even version 1.0 was rock solid and totally amazing. Nothing like it was available at the time. I was able to produce videos for local TV advertisements, did the video segments of our Las Vegas Addy awards, and produced nice videos for private companies getting ready to go public. And this was back in the NTSC color gamut and 480i resolution. CoSA AfterEffects is one versatile tool!

Love the post. And as always, everyone's mileage ALWAYS varies. 😄

I can get around in Ae but find it rather daunting. Premiere is so vastly easier for general video editing color audio h graphics for me.

I was the first person in any graphics app in our business, adding scanning to file for copy/restoration work with old photographs about Photoshop Cs4.5. Then as we were early adopters of digital imaging for the portrait work, Lightroom public beta 0.8. And coupling that with Photoshop as needed.

In 2013 I transitioned to video work. And have worked with Pr, Audition, AfterEffects, and SpeedGrade while the latter app lasted. SpeedGrade was by far my most comfortable user situation.

Also, as since the beginning of my video work I've been tied in the the colorists community, I've worked in Resolve daily also. Which frustrates me no end.

But a number of good friends LOVE the look and UI of Resolve. Great! Ain't gonna be me.

It would be useful if you listed short but detailed points that you find unsettling or poor in usability in Premiere. That makes for a better discussion.

Given that this idea is now YEARS old it would appear that Adobe has no interest in actually doing anything about it.

Strange comment.

The post is from early 2023, so yea, a few months over a year, and asked about the general 'feel' of the UI colors.

Since then, they dramatically modified both the 'native' or default color schema, but added an abilityt to save UI color presets that is rather past what they were doing before.

So I don't see any actual point to the post you made. As whether or not any one of us likes the changes, they have made major changes and more options available to the users.

Posting about the changes that you don't like, with specifics, WOULD be helpful. And welcomed.

Hi, thank you for asking this question.

My eyesight has changed as I've aged. It’s becoming harder and harder to use UI's with grey backgrounds and light grey fonts. To work, I turn my monitor brightness way up. This of course causes other editing issues.

Including controls to change the UI background and font brightness and color would help people as their eyesight changes. It may also reduce fatigue during long work sessions by allowing users to change-things-up.

Those are good points, and also something that in my experience the folks working at UI development frequently ... don't consider, at least as serious as some of us think they should.

Being as the people doing the design work are frequently 20-30's, and their supers what, maybe 40's? It probably is not a natural thing to think about.

Well, for most people in my experience that sort of thing would be true. I've always wanted to know the total range of variance between likely participants in something, and take that into account during planning. Most of the people I've done planning with over the last 40 years simply thought of the "main" group as they perceived them, and only considered designing for that group.

And were often irritated when I suggested thinking of wider participants.

Tis human nature. And so needs so often to be pointed out, directly.
