Extreme lag when importing files, locating files, anything to do with file explorer

This has been plaguing me for several months now. The in-program file explorer on Premiere Pro CC has gotten slow to the point of being unusable. If I have to link offline media, every folder that I click on will take 20-30 seconds to load in. Starting from the drive letter and getting all the way to where my audio or other elements are stored can take up to 5 minutes of my time, slowing my entire process down.

There is plenty of space on both the drives in my computer. I'm running the latest version of CC and also Windows 10. I'm really not sure where this is all coming from.

I am also having this problem. Whenever opening anything in InDesign or Photoshop (including placing or updating links), Windows file explorer freezes for between 5 to 10 minutes. It's happening on my home PC, home laptop (where I tend to store files in google drive, but make available offline) and 2 work computers (where we do the same but with dropbox). Could it be a problem with accessing files stored in the cloud? It also happens if I make the files available offline and then switch my interned connection off (as a test). Could it be some kind of conflict with the google drive / dropbox file handling? It's definitely slowing me down!

    Hi Brewerz87,

Sorry for the lag issue. Various factors may effect this. Please share the following info:

    1. What is the exact dot version of Premiere Pro? FAQ: How to find the exact version of Premiere Pro you're using?

    2. What is the location of the media(Internal/external drive)?

    3. Are you logged in as an Administrator? Please check the performance using a different user account.

    4. Have you tested the performance after disabling Anti-virus and firewall?

    5. Are there any third party plugins installed?

    6. Have you tested the issue with a new project?

    Thanks,

    Vidya

It's the latest version, been through several updates with this issue, updates do nothing to address it.

It does not matter the location of the media, NAS Drive, Thunderbolt External, Raid drive. It hangs while opening the in app explorer window every time.

I am logged in as the administrator, there is only one account on the PC.

There is no antivirus, there is firewall exception and I don't really want to turn it off at all.

No Third Party plugins installed apart from Logitech options, which I have tried removing but it does not solve the issue.

    It happens to all projects.
