Photoshop is the likely app for working with realistic images but it's not the only one. 

• Multiple image layers are stacked on top of each other,
• Layer masks are applied to hide unwanted areas,
• Layer opacity values are reduced to get desired effects. 

This project would be good for an advanced Photoshop user.

Yes, that's a big deal of Photoshop or a similar application. As soon as you have done your first 5 images like this, however, it is just production. You even get numerous filters that do the glow effect for you. But assets like this are demanded, as they give a look of modern applications.
