The content collector, with its Link feature will do what you want. Any changes to the source text will show in the Links panel, and can be updated with a single click there.

Group your green bars, and then Cut. Draw the box in place (no stroke, no fill) Select the invisible box, and choose Paste Into. (Don't forget to allow 1/8 inch for bleed at the page edges)

No suggestions, but I can confirm that I have seen this same thing from time to time, starting with InDesign CC2015. Edit > Edit Colors > Convert to CMYK But your description of the issue is not really clear, so I don't know if this will fix your problem.

First, make sure that your Document Color Mode is CMYK. If it's RGB, change it, and then find just one of your wrongly colored objects. Choose Select Same Fill. When the are all selected, you can change them to the correct color. Do the same for Select Same Stroke. If that's not the issue, some screen shots of the Swatches pallet with one of the errant objects selected could help someone diagnose your problem.

In the book panel flyout menu, there are Export Book to PDF options. To get this option, you have to either have all of the documents in the panel selected, or none of them.

Can you show a screen shot of the file with the layers pallet open? If what you are seeing in Photoshop was transparency, it would not carry over to InDesign. EPS files don't generally support transparency when placing, so you may also need to save it in another format.

When you look at Separations Preview in InDesign, does the woodgrain background still show? It's possible that the graphic has gotten a non-priniting attribute applied to it.

If you have the names and the file-names of the photos in an excel sheet, this could be easily accomplished with InDesign's built-in Data Merge. Merge data to create form letters, envelopes, or mailing labels in Adobe InDesign

That is likely just because of the files being moved. Double-click on the files to open them in the book, and they will update in the panel.

If you have an older version of InDesign that is open on your machine, that is the one that will try to open the file, regardless of what version it was created in. Either close the previous version program, or right-click to use open-with to choose the newer version.

The .indb file is the Book file that links the 20 chapters together. If you open that, you have easy access to all of your chapters, page numbers update across chapters, and all styles and master pages are able to be synced if you wish. When you are finished, you can output a single PDF from the book panel. I cannot think of a good reason to combine these documents. The way it is, you can work with more manageable size files, and if there is an index involved, I think you will find that it works much faster the way it is.

If you purchased a year's subscription, then you should not be getting a Trial Version message. Your subscription covers all CC versions. You should not need to uninstall cc2017. See if the info in the link below is helpful. Stop Creative Cloud 2015 from reverting to trial mode

This is a job for InDesign, even if some of the art in done in Illustrator. A book like this should be set up as facing pages, using an 8.5 x 11 page size. That is how professional printers will want it set up, and that is also how you should set it up for home printing. -- (Did you mean 16 8.5 x 11 pages, or 16 11 x 17 pages?)

If you export the document as single pages, you can change the initial view in Acrobat the Two-Up (Cover Page), and it will display the same spreads as your document. In the CC2017, you can select this setting in the PDF export dialog.

If you can take the computer to a location with internet long enough to download the programs, you would only need an internet connection occassionally to "check in". It works fine without a constant connection.
