If you can't get the "Recover Edges" plug-in to work, then the quickest way out of the problem is to open the images into DPP (where the images aren't cropped), then save them as Tiffs which you can import back into Lightroom. Couldn't put it any better. Sums up exactly why I too have quit, having been a "top ten" contributor in the Lightroom forum. It syncs initially to the Adobe cloud servers, and from there to any suitable mobile device which is logged in to the same account (currently only iPads, but others to follow). Yes, you should see activity on the iPad pretty much at the same time as the upload is progressing (though will depend to some degree on your network connection). Delete All Data means delete all the sync data stored in the Cloud. The original files, with the work that you've done on them on the desktop, will be unchanged. Any edits you made on the iPad and successfully synced back to the desktop will also be retained. I'm also in the UK with typically 40 Mbps down and 7.25 Mbps up. Testing to San Jose produces varied results depending upon which server I use, the fastest one gives me around 38 down and 6.5 up. Ran some tests last night (results probably skewed a little due to hyper-activity on the CC servers!), 800 x 22mp raw files with Smart Previews pre-built took just over 38 minutes to upload, which is 2.88 seconds per image. A second set of 800 images, this time without pre-built SPs took just over 51 minutes, which is 3.88 seconds per image. Running a 4 year-old i7930 with 12gb of RAM, Win7x64. Not sure what that really means without some further testing, though it does seem that if you're only getting 10 seconds per image then there may be some other issue at play rather than just "slow syncing". It's the same procedure in LR4: Start the Watermarks editor, then use the drop-down at top left to select the watermark you wish to delete. Others may not agree with me, but my view is that the primary purpose of a NAS is to enable sharing of data across a Local network. So if there's no requirement for that level of sharing of original image files, what's the point of putting them on a slower (and possibly less reliable) medium? I keep all my image files on internal drives, but even if I couldn't do that I'd use fast external drives (eSata or USB3). I do use a NAS, but it's only used as one of my several external backup devices, plus some file sharing between the family members. ... View more

Yes, there will be a drive space consideration as of course these are additional previews. However, the smart previews cache will likely be smaller than the "standard" previews cache, maybe a lot smaller if you have a lot of 1:1 previews in the standard cache. On my system currently my smart preview cache is just less than half the size of my standard cache, and I currently have very few 1:1 previews rendered. In terms of taxing the processor more, they certainly do during the creation phase as Adobe have been very agressive in this area. Smart Previews and "ordinary" previews are two separate things, so if you like to zoom into 1:1 in the Library module then carry on rendering 1:1 previews. There is liitle connection between "ordinary" previews (1:1 or not) and smart previews. Ordinary previews are used almost exclusively in the Library module (where, if a 1:1 preview doesn't exist and you zoom to 1:1, it will be built), whereas smart previews are used almost exclusively in the Develop module. When in Develop, and images are online, their only role is a brief one in the pre-load stage of intial image loading. When images are offline, and the smart preview exists, that is what you would be seeing when in Develop. As the smart previews are limited to a max of 2540 pixels on the long edge, 1:1 zooming in that situation is obviously limited to that max resolution. ... View more

No, you can't set a specific import source in an import preset. Lightroom will first of all default to any inserted memory cards, but if none are present it will indeed default to "My Pictures". However, clicking on the "Select a source" button at the top of the left hand column will bring up the list of recent import source selections. As you are presumably using the same folder for each of your imports, it should appear right at the top of the list, making navigation a breeze. ... View more
