This is an impressive message! esp. the Animate cannot open files in the "Adobe Animate Document" format. On Windows I haven't noticed problems with opening FLA files in AA24 so far.

Incorrect assumption. There are no symbols in any other place than the Library. What you work with on the Stage are Instances of those Symbols in the Library, which you either modify externally or internally. You can, however, create duplicates, and copy/paste frames and layers from them, or as is the most common practice keep your rig/puppet's neutral state in a separate FLA file. Also the neutral pose could be a frame within the timeline of your symbol container. (Study nested timelines.)

In your driver settings, now that you have switched to WinTab, try to disable Windows Ink for Animate. This may have some effect on the way drop-downs behave.

Maybe the shapes that you create have too many vector points and are too heavy for your CPU. You should think how you can optimize your designs. If you absolutely must use very complex shapes and there is no possibility to simplify them, then you can temporarily duplicate those offending bits and convert the duplicates to bitmap, while guiding the original layers. Then work with these placeholders until time comes for final export.

The 'transparent square' shows the actual dimensions of the bitmap. If you want to avoid this undesired click detection, put your bitmaps inside a Graphic Symbol and mask them. Masking does not need to be perfect, just close to the silhouette.

Hi mate, I'm sorry about all the trouble. Obviously, if a program offers a feature it is supposed to work as expected. I think that the reason such a serious bug with Motion Tweens could be neglected for so long is the fact that nearly no one touches them at all. You must be a part of a tiny minority of users, who have found some practical application of Motion Tweens. What you said about Classic Tween gives me the impression that you may have not explored them properly, or maybe your use cases are very specific. Classic Tweens have been used in the production of broadcast animation for a very long time and they are easy to apply and versatile, because of the way keyframes work there. Since you already have a lot of animation done with Motion Tweens, I don't have any suggestions how you could convert those FLAs to the newer format. In recent years Animate has had a lot of problems, and by looking at how things go it seems that corners are being cut, with the result of nearly non-existent QA. Going forward, it may be worth giving Classic Tweens a second chance. Good luck!

'Why' should be obvious: to know that you're inside a symbol. The proper question is "How to avoid it?". From the View menu switch to Full Preview mode. Then switch back to Anti-Alias when you don't need it.

Just for clarity of terminology: You are using Parented Layers, not Armature. Do not rely on the Auto Keyframe function. Make a vertical selection across all the layers of your character and hit F6 on the keyboard or the button in the timeline, if you prefer. Think of the keyframes as poses. Always create vertically aligned keys for all your body parts across all layers.

The facial features should be nested inside the head symbol, not 'glued' to the face externally. This container should be set to Play Once and run in sync with the character timeline. All those parented elements should be symbols and you should never touch their Transformation Points after setting them once at the beginning. Also, you should get into the habit to treat the keyframes as poses and not offset them, i.e. there should be a keyframe slicing though all layers always; now you have an empty parent (most likely causing the inherited coordinates to change drastically when it suddenly pops into existence at frame 249) and a mess of tweens and static spans. Thе image above is an illustration of a timeline disaster. It is a miracle that bits of it work at all.

It may be due to an issue with a video codec on your system. Some external resource which AA uses may be corrupted. Have you tried Windows reset? I'd create an image of the system before resetting it, just to be able to go back quickly to this state if the reset or clean install do not resolve the video decoding problem.

With an older AS3 V-Cam, I'd suggest the first thing to try is to switch off the so-called Advanced Layers for your document and try again. Also in Publish Settings target an older version of Flash Player, for example 11, 12 or 17.

Hi Luke, Most of the features introduced after the name change from Flash to Animate are quite unreliable. The first thing to try before attempting to work around the various bugs is to export a PNG sequence. Mosl likely your lines are each a separate Union/Drawing Object. To join them you need to Break Apart them first. Experiment with Break Apart, Object Drawing mode on and off and simple lines in Animate, moving points with the black arrow tool (V) to get a sense of how shapes work in Animate. If your target is video, change your document type to AS3, instead of the currently used HTML5/Canvas. Then you will have access to the settings you need.
