This is called Opacity Mask in illustrator After creating the shapes, draw an object with a gradient over it ans set the balck at the bottom and white at the top , then select them both the go to : window -> transparency and click on " make mask " let us know if that helps. ... View more

does your editor has  " paste as plain text" or other types of paste? if not, try to make the copy , and paste in into a "notepad" , then re-copy it from the note pad and paste it in your editor . let us know if that helps. ... View more
