If i save as X-1a:2001 and resave it in Acrobat, It reduces it, but not much. From 1,3 MB to 1,1 MB. But with the optimized option to discard User Data and hidden layers it becomes 40 KB. Both files look the same when opened in Illustrator, no empty layers.

Yes, I would like to skip the step in Acrobat too, but I do not know how a custom flattener preset would reduce the file size in my example.

It still leaves some stuff in. If I save a file with 3 layers, 2 hidden I get 1,3 mb when saved as PDF/X-1a:2001. If I delete the hidden layers and save the file as PDF/X-1a:2001 the file becomes 596 KB.

You can do that in Acrobat. Save the file with the hidden layers in Illustrator with "Create Acrobat Layers from Top-Level Layers" checked. In Acrobat: Save as other... > Optimized PDF and in the Discard User Data check > Discard hidden Layer content and flatten visible layers.

Pick up the attributes with the Eyedropper. Hold down the Alt (Option) Key and apply it to other objects. The Eyedropper changes to a filled eyedropper and behaves like a paint bucket.

A better way is: Type into the rectangle. The rectangle disappears. Select the Direct Selection tool. Click on the edge of the text object (the disappeared rectangle). Give it a fill and or stroke. No need to copy rectangles. And if you want to change the text inset inside the rectangle, choose: Type Area Type Options...

I am not sure if this is what you want. Place an image. Click the Mask button in the Options bar. Make the mask larger or smaller. You can also give it a color.

Why do you save an EPS file from Illustrator, just to open it in Photoshop? You can copy from Illustrator and paste into Photoshop (even as a smart object so you can scale it later without quality loss), or just Open the .ai file in Photoshop.

Illustrator does not have that functionality like InDesign, but you can try this: Create a box as large as the page without the margins. Position it at the X Y position of the top and left margin. Choose: Object > Path > Split into Grid. You can make guides from the result.

Turn it on for a day, and watch your blood pressure rise. It completely destroys the ability to use the Shift key and Smart Guides at the same time. I wonder why that checkbox even exists. I see what you mean, it does not behave like that in CC2014, but I would not prefer to turn it on. So that's a bug.

Hi JK, to create a triangle with it's base horizontal, I've always used the Shift key. Then typing E works fine.
