Hi. Not all SVG files include the characters as text, as @Engrave Express said, maybe the characters are vectors, so you can't edit those characters but you can create new text.

Are you sure that fonts have been used in the file? Sometimes we get that messages because the font cache or because it was used on insignificant areas, etc. Can you ask to the creator for the original file?
