Hi James, It can be confusing, for sure. But, I do want to point out that the $215 is not for Adobe Reader DC - That price is for Adobe Acrobat DC. The Reader application is a free download. It can view and you can comment on PDFs, but that is all. Acrobat DC, desktop version (no subscription) can create PDFs from a variety of sources, and you have full editing capability. This includes adding security to your documents either with passwords or certificates. You pay a one time cost, and get a serial number to activate it. Acrobat DC, subscription version, adds the cloud connectivity, giving you sign and track, document cloud storage, and related cloud features. You pay a monthly fee, and sign in with your Adobe ID (no license key required), and have full access to the cloud features including mobile sync. I hope that helps. Mike
