Before/After view of the SAME photo was already implemented in Lightroom with the BEFORE/AFTER button on the toolbar.  If you want to compare the before/after in Reference View you can create a Virtual Copy of the photo you are editing and use that as the REFERENCE photo but is seems like a waste of effort as this capability is already implemented.  As dj_paige said the idea of reference view it to compare two DIFFERENT photos. ... I have seen these a couple times in Lightroom after doing a software update on a program.  I think it is a temporary install drive artifact as a reboot of the computer has always removed the entry.  Try a complete restart of you computer. ... View more

Having small previews AND/OR having to to switch folders to have the previews show has happened to me a few times.  Sometimes I even have to close the import dialog and reopen it to see the previews.  As you say it is random (although yours has become permanent.  The import does have some glitches/bugs, especially import directly from the camera.  On a positive note, for me it has been better lately.   DJ_paige, there is an 11:1 zoom in both the import and develop/library views although it is pretty much worthless for me. ...
