I'm goint to miss this forum so much as it is!

I'm not trying to change it anymore because I don't think I can stop the river. But I am going to miss this clean, simple forum. I think it is one of the best there is.

I don't participate nearly as much as some of you do but I'm usually around reading and enjoying. Some of you are quite entertaining.

I just hope it doesn't get too pathetic. It would be sad if this becomes not fun or informative anymore.

Maybe we could start a new one. But then who wants to run it? Guess all we can do is wait and see.

The speed and usability issues will determine that, Cindy.

I hope Eric, Mark et al. update the scripts to be usable in the forums next week.

While I share Cindy's feelings, now that the big earthquake is almost here, I have just noticed that I don't know the answer to two simple questions:

1. How will we know when the big change comes into effect? I would think that we should be warned a few hours beforehand.

2. How will we know how to get into the new forums? I would think that URLs of the old forums will be as useless as those of the trial forums.

Well, at least JC will be around here all the time XD

Well, you may blame it on my age if you wish, but I seem to have completely missed both announcements. Thanks, Ann.

Well, that's understandable, but it doesn't answer my question. Thanks anyway, John.

It's at the top of the page

ANNOUNCEMENT: Forums will be unavailable for planned system maintenance starting at 3pm PST on April 3, 2009. New forums will be online on Monday April 6, 2009.

> 2. How will we know how

I'm sure there will be a link at adobe.com you can follow if it does not automatically re-direct.

What Cindy said.

One thing is certain: from now on, the forums will be more fragmented, and therefore we shall be less of a community.

With the scripts, some of us may escape some ugliness, but that actually means that no longer shall we all see the same forums.

I shall miss that, too.

Why do I think that?

Because the new format is too slow and uneconomical to encourage anyone to want to linger very long; or to return very frequently.

Large gaps between items (both listings & messages) mean that you can no longer get around quickly; only half the number of items are now visible per screenful and any thread that gets pushed to the second page will get no further responses.

No thought has been given to the requirements that have been stated so very clearly by the most regular Users; and the development team have taken the lazy and easy way out by adopting the standard Jive format.

The considerable concern that has been shown about e-mail access in the last few days means that people are intending to use that method
to access the Forums which obviously indicates that they find the new format to be unusable by Browser.

That alone will kill the Forums as happened with the Macromedia Forums which were so ghastly that everyone resorted to News Readers.

The Adobe Forums have been a wonderful resource until today;
but is now being willfully destroyed.

I so hope you're wrong ann! i wouldn't bet on it, but i hope so.

like i've maintained all along, i would hope that if the forums are FAST, if they throw enough horsepower at them, they MIGHT be usable.

Freeagent, John has been giving a tremendous battle to include this vital functionality in the new forums, and I understand he hasn't been losing it. Let's cross our fingers. In any case, this is a "detail" that can be fixed once all the large fires have been extinguished...

And with people and posts in separate boxes with different rankings, the sense of a unified community of equals will suffer.

I wonder how heavy the punishment in minus points will be for serious posters venturing to suggest reading the fine manual or, maybe even worse, venturing to state that these applications imply a steep learning curve so that a competent use actually requires a greater effort than do surfing, chatting, facebooking, and other socializing activities which may seem far more important.
