I now switched to doing OCR from a the command line on a Linux machine using a software called OCRmyPDF. That is much faster, compression can be finely tuned, and I don’t get the issue with scewed pages. I still marked your answer as accepted. It is very detailed and probably the best that can be done with Acrobat at the moment. It’s a pity, though, that this bug has not been fixed in years. It looks like Acrobat doesn’t get much development other than user interface overhauls.

Thank you very much, Gary! Unfortunately, this does not seem to work if I want to get editable text and images. The issue with Searchable Image as output is very big. There are many pages that have black text on white background, plus a grayscale image. With editable text and images, the grayscale image is stored separately from the text, which can be compressed using different algorithms. This brings down PDF size to a fraction of the original size, while maintaining quality. With searachable image as output, the PDF size remains high. I think I should slowly look at other software. This issue has been in Acrobat since ages.

I would like to OCR the attached PDF page, preferably into editable text and images. However, whatever I try, it rotates the elements on the page by something like 20°. If I select Searchable Image (Exact), then the recognized text gets rotated. The rotation doesn’t even make sense. How do I tell Acrobat not to rotate the elements on the page?

Thanks! FBX makes sense. But PNG is only 8 bit. Wouldn't it be better to use a EXR? My intention is to do brightness / contrast adjustments to the texture, not to paint on it.

Thank you, that does the trick! More advanced controls, akin to ACR, would be nice, including a histogram. I'm completely new to Substance Painter. Only today I figured out how to import textured models from Metashape.

Take a look at this 3D scan, and download if you like: 2023-09-05 Tree gate (Sketchfab) I shot it in RAW format, exposing for the highlights. After processing with Agisoft Metashape, the texture came out quite dark and flat. So I exported it as TIFF from Metashape and post processed it in ACR for export as JPEG. Finally, I checked how it looked when applied to the 3D geometry. It’s a tedious process, going back and forth. With Substance 3D Painter, could I adjust brightness and contrast directly on the 3D model? (With 3DF Zephyr, textures come out nice and vivid. However, I find I get better geometry with Metashape, and that’s more important.)

Thanks, I now did a different strategy, OCRed with Searchable Image (Exact), then downsampled with the optimizer. It would be nice if Adobe would one day fix the issue with images randomly rotated if OCR fails on them, or if there was a way to rotate them back. A better rotate tool is more than overdue. This means, as of now, there is no answer for my question.

I do OCR on scanned images: Document Language: English (UK) Output: Searchable Image Downsample To: 300 dpi This generally works fine. However, there are two pages in a document of 220 pages where Acrobat: fails to recognize text, it rotates the scan quite a lot. For point number 1, it is forgiven: There is not much text, and that text is stylized. I don't even expect it to recognize that. However, point number 2 is a big problem. How do I undo these rotations? I tried to manually rotate with the edit tool. However, this can only be done in 2° or 1° increments, and it's not possible to rotate the image back to its original position.

Thanks! Installing Photoshop trial did the trick. As far as I can see, ACR with Bridge is quite a nice solution, very light weight, and without the need to set up a database. I'll try it out for a few days, then decide. For Photoshop I have no use.

I am looking for a light weight editing solution, and I want to explore whether Bridge plus Camera Raw is for me. So I installed Bridge plus a trial of Lightroom Classic, which I tried in the past and which I don’t like. My operating system is Windows 10 Pro. Now when I right click a photo in Bridge and select “Open in Camera Raw…”, then I get: Camera Raw editing is not enabled. Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been licensed. What does this mean? A trial of Lightroom Classic is not enough to try Bridge?

In the end I got table cells and text aligned to the grid by selecting Relative To: Top Of Page. This is a hack, but with the grid relative to top margin, I just couldn’t get it to work. Unfortunately, I cannot provide more details as my subscription has expired.

With a brand new letter document it works (standard everything, except that I selected align to baseline grid😞 Once I change the grid size and make it start relative to the top margin, things go bad: Is this a bug or am I missing something?

If I change stroke width in the cell's Strokes and Fills options dialog, then InDesign draws a rectangle around each cell in the header row. This is not what I want. I only want to change the stroke width of the separator line.

To get rid of everything Foxit from the past, I now tried the following process: Installed Foxit PDF with all options. The Foxit PDF printer installed just fine. Rebooted. Uninstalled Foxit, got the error message: “Some elements could not be removed. These can be removed manually.” Rebooted. Deleted C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software which still contained one file: Foxit Reader\plugins\ConvertToPDFShellExtension_x64.dll Installed Acrobat. Again the PDF printer is missing. What to do? Reinstall Foxit and use that instead? Then – with all these issues – I wonder what justifies the price for Acrobat. A log file could tell me what is going on, but it seems that Adobe is not able to implement such a basic feature.

As mentioned in the message which started this thread, I followed all the steps in the blog post Acrobat: PDF Printer missing after installation on Windows 64-Bit. This includes attempts to manually install the printer via the Devices and Printers control panel. No success. It would be very helpful if there was a way to find out what goes wrong. Isn't there a log file? What else can I try?

Thanks Dave, for your help so far! Two / three days ago, I gave it another shot, again without success: Uninstalled Acrobat. With msconfig, found that “Adobe Acrobat Update Service” is still running. According to services.msc, that is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\armsvc.exe I disabled it. Downloaded <url=https://driverstoreexplorer.codeplex.com/>RAPR Started it as Admin. After clicking enumerate, I saw: oem113.inf by Adobe, in driver class printers. I deleted that package. Rebooted. Installed the latest Acrobat Pro DC 2015. Rebooted. No printer. Tried to install the printer manually, again error 0x00000002. Uninstalled Acrobat and rebooted. Using RAPR, again I removed the Adobe printer package. Fixed registry issues using CCleaner, after making a backup. Repeated the process twice, until no issues were reported anymore. Cleaned cache files, etc. using CCleaner. Rebooted. Finally, I detected that there is a stray printer port: Foxit_Reader (Local Port) Maybe that’s the issue, but I don’t know how to remove that port. Any idea what else I can try? Is there perhaps a better PDF printer, one that just works.

Using files from the original Windows 7 installation DVD, I now replaced `ntprint.inf` and `ntprint.pnf` in `C:\Windows\inf`, reinstalled Acrobat and the latest updates, and rebooted. The PDF printer has not been installed. When trying to install it manually, I still get error 0x00000002. How do I find out more? Is there nobody here who can help?

On a 64 bit Windows 7 system, I installed Acrobat Pro DC 2015 and its latest updates. However, the PDF printer does not show up: I tried all steps described in @dmcmahon’s blog entry Acrobat: PDF Printer missing after installation on Windows 64-Bit. In between steps, I generously rebooted. The printer still does not show up. What can I do? Are there any log files that give more detailed information?
