After Effects

For whatever reason After effects keeps crashing whenever I open a project that works perfectly on another computer. It worked also perfectly on the computer I am using, but it stopped working recently. Could you help me please ? Hello,I'm trying to use the write on effect in after effects, using psd files but it doesn't seem to be working. The method I'm using works fine with AI files but the illustrator I'm using for this whiteboard animation job has sent me psd files.Method I used: double click on the file to open layers panel, use paint brush tool with RGBA and write on. Create my path. Duplicate layer, delete paint effect on that layer and add a generate write effect, making sure it's revealing image, small brush spacing and big brush size. Then I copied the path of first layer to brush position of second layer. Then deleted first layer.Has anyone had this issue before? Please let me know if you have a solution!!

in After Effects 24.2.1, and also the previous Version (24.1.x) exportAsMotionGraphicsTemplate() is not returning the correct value, when build into an alert or if-statement. in 22.x and currently 23.6.2 exportAsMotionGraphicsTemplate() returnes 'true' upon successfully finishing the export progress. in 24.2.1. the same script returns 'false' also i think in the future it should be possible to disable 'include video previews' via scripting. Thank you very much!

If I try to use the Lumetri Color effect on a clip I get an Invalid Menu Operation error followed by infinite "internal verification failure, sorry! {invalid index in indexed group}" errors until I have to close After Effects using task manager. I've reset preferences, uninstalled all plugins, uninstalled AE and reinstalled it on my system drive, started in safe mode and tried multiple different clips. I've tried the renaming the folders in documents of appdata and it didn't do anything. I've tried applying the effect to a dark grey solid in a blank project and it still gave me the same result. My drivers are all up to date, I've cleared my cash and reset my preferences. I have googled this issue and found nothing useful.  PC Specs32 Core AMD ThreadripperRTX 3090128GB DDR4 Ram at 2800MHz

I receive this message when I try to place media replacement controls in the essential graphics window.  I am using a template that I purchased on Envato.  What am I doing wrong? "After Effects warning:  One or more layers are not supported by Media Replacement because they are an incompatible type or have Continuous Rasterization or Collapse Transformation enabled." I am trying to make the text editable in Premiere when i get it exported.   

hi, I am pretty new to using after effects expressions and I am not quite sure how to solve my problem and i also found no working solution on the internet. so I want to animate objects with always one in the background and one in the foreground and want to alternate them - this i figured out works with giving one layer: rate = 1/1;posterizeTime(rate);seedRandom(index, false);random(0,100) < 50 ? 0 : 100; and the other one: if(thisComp.layer(index+1).transform.opacity==0)100;else 0; now comes my breaking point: I have a lot of these alterning pairs and I dont want them to all switc at the same time but rather randomized. I´ve tried several options working with offset, startTime/endTime or durations and either I did it wrong or it was the absolute wrong approach to my problem.(e.g. pair 1 always switches on frames with :10 and pair 2 on frames with :15)I am also working on a file with around 400 layers which also moves me to find a simple solution to my probl

Hi,So I have some 60FPS footage ive been needing to edit on after effects, but i seem to have run into a previous problem.Basically, my footage is 60FPS and I edit on 60FPS too-my comp is always set to 60FPS-but when i import this footage, slowing it down is a nightmare. I get paused frames with time remap AND twixtor. The twist is when i use 23,976FPS footage, the time remap and twixtor works perfectly fine, its smooth and the clip is easy to see. It just seems like anything from 30FPS-60FPS does not want to slow down smooth, I have tried changing my speed graphs and making the twixtor faster but no luck!I would also like to add that I asked my friend to see if this happens on their After Effects, I thought maybe it was a bug on AE's behalf, but they can edit 60FPS perfectly fine and smooth! Is this a setting I need to change? This happened on After Effects 2022 and is now happening on After Effects 2024.Would love to know if anyone has any kind of fix to this! 

I have this wave that I want to animate (I dont want to start from scatch; I want this specific one), either just the wave moving or it going from a straight line to this exact wave. What's the best way to go on about this? I'm a bit of a beginner.

Hello everyone, I'm working with an AE file of someone else. Since i'm not that experienced yet, I can't figure out what the diagonal lines are that show up under each layer. Can anybody tell me how I can edit de timing?

The Easing expression graph editor UI seems to have been updated from the U curce to a bunch of confusing AF s-curves and now I have no clue how to navigate it. Sometimes I can't even edit the velocity of the easing transitions. What's happened and why is there no tutorial on how it now works??If anyone else has noticed the update, please help! I've got some mad deadlines to meet this wekeend.

Hi,I have a video from my new sony a6500 in 4k resolution, but after adding some color grading in after effects when i try to render it with Quicktime format and h264 compression it gives the warning for downscaling the video resolution to ~2k. I read that that is the limit h264 can handel the resolutions. But is there any other compression which can help me render the 4k video which i smooth in playing.PS : i tries animation but it was too leggy to play.Regards

When editing the Red metadata settings for R3D footage (Interpret Footage > More Options > ) in AE 2019, you can click "Save Preset" and those settings will be available under the dropdown at the top right. To be clear, I don't mean saving an RMD file in the R3D's folder. These presets seem to be saved and managed by AE.Where are these presets saved to?I have searched for the names of the presets and can't find anything.The presets aren't embedded into the project file itself because they are available in any project after saved.It would be nice to access these so they can be sent to/used on another machine. Case in point: if someone is grading R3D footage with hard drive copy B of the footage, and then someone with hard drive copy A of the R3D footage needs to work on that shot, they would need to be sent the generated/saved .RMD files and then place each of those .RMD files into the appropriate folders (a mild nightmare if there are a lot of shots). Im wanting to create an L shape in the corner of a video with rounded edges in a glass morphism style, however when I turn the graphics layer into an adjustment layer the inside corner of the L disapears. anyone have any ideas how one could fix this problem?

Hi everyone,I've been using this expression and it works great, think it was created by Ukramedia but I'm not sure. It adds points to long numbers between every group of three digits.I have a vague idea how it works, but I would love a literal 'translation' from someone experienced. This is the expression: num = value; function addCommas(x) {return x.toString().replace(/\B(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))/g, ",");}addCommas(num) I focus particularly on the the part from ".replace" onward. I  know the B has something to do with the (right-side) boundary of what follows behind it, a digit, and then there's a negation ("not followed by digit) and then the global replacement of something (must be the specific position between the three-digit groups) with a comma.Very fuzzy summarized, as you can see. What exactly does this line of code sound like in sequential commands? 

So this is just a random thing that's bugged me for a while and I assume there's probably something I don't know that I should... I generally try to avoid using Nulls, Solids, and Adjustment layers in favor of doing the same job with shape layers instead. As far as I can tell, shape layers can do everything these layers can do and more, plus they don't clutter up my bins with unnecessary assets. So I’m wondering why they need to exist at all? And if there’s any difference between the 3? An adjustment layer seems to just be a solid with the adjustment layer toggle on. And a null seems to just be a smaller solid with 0% opacity. I can see how this might save time instead of creating a solid and then making those small changes to get the same result, but why not just make them all from shape layers instead? The odd time I do use nulls is generally when I'm using the generate nulls from paths script, which in a recent project generated 60 nulls. of which I replaced nulls 2-60 wit

I recently got After Effects and motion blur has not been working ever since I installed it. I am clicking the right button for motion blur in the timeline and it isn't working. I checked the composition settings and the shutter angle is at 180 and the shutter phase is at -90 and still no luck. The CC force motion blur and the Pixel motion blur are not working either. I wonder if it's because I am using a Mac. any solutions?

Hi community!  I'm running into an issue with this property. I'm sure this is an easy fix but I don't really understand how it works. I have a composition and I want to loop part of it, from about 2 seconds in. I applied Time Remapping, added the keyframes to the parts I want to loop and used the loopOut expression, but this only seems to delay the first frame and then squeeze the timing of the whole composition into the sections marked by the keyframes. What is the right way to do this?EDIT: I have my original composition precomped. Thank you! 

Every single time i try opening a project i get a missing data 33:4 error I was editing on my laptop when my monitor just stopped working but my computer was still running, so I pressed ctrl + s before i manually power off the computer. Upon restart I get nothing but a 33:4 error. I've tried opening it on 2025, same issue, importing into a new project same issue, ive downloaded older version and same issue. Im doing this for a school project due by 2/7/2025 so any help would be greatly appreciated on how to fix this

Hi, I have a user who keeps having the System crash. After Effect, even when not in use but open, is taking 190GB of RAM... The MacBook, An M4 Max with 36 GB of RAM, is coping with the high demand, but when it reaches 190GB RAM, the system crashes (obviously)  What to do? she has installed After effect 25.1.0
