I often have keyframes in a precomp that need to be adjusted while looking at the result of those keyframes in another comp (this is more often than not in AE). We can step frame by frame or jump around and see what we need to see, but we cannot scrub or play and have both comps play back or scrub, so there is a lot of back and forth. I'd love it if there were an option to lock playheads and preview/scrub multiple comps simultaneously to speed this workflow up.
Currently, it's not possible to read a layer's comment or label in an expression*. It would be helpful to be able to access these via something like 'layer.comment' or 'layer.label'. This would allow, for instance, changing a layer's colour based on the comment text or the label.(*If I've missed something and this is possible, I'll happily be proven wrong!)
I'd love to have a mode where moving a layer with the arrow keys and/or dragging it around is snapped to full pixel values. Snap to grid works for dragging, but a single pixel-per-square grid is so dense that you cannot easily see the image underneath while it is on, and you need to zoom all the way in to make sure it is snapping correctly.
We really need Pro Import back to work with AAF files. I know it was removed. I heard they'd be adding it back but I still dont see it. How are we supposed to work with industry standard AAF files without it?----Update, I made this request back in Dec 2023. An Adobe employee said it would be returning in future versions but we still don't have it back. This feature is vital to compatibility with industry workflows.--------- nishu_kushAdobe Employee , Dec 18, 2023Copy link to clipboard Hi naves31200335, Are you on macOS or Windows? If on macOS, this option was removed a few years back. Sorry about that.On Windows, the option is not available in the current version. The team is aware of this and it should come back in future releases. Meanwhile, you can either use the 2023 version or copy the ProImport folder from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects 2023\Support Files\Plug-ins\Format over to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After
Hi!I'm wondering why the main curve (Luma vs Luma) in Lumetri color doesn't have the eyedropper. Like in Photoshop – you can measure the color (brightness in our case) and adjust it locally.
And it should work for both Percentage/index Units.A N D if it can work in the text.sourceText prop, this will be a bonus.
A scalable UI is necessary because right now, everything in After Effects is too small to see properly. My eyes, shoulders & neck all hurt when I try to work in After Effects, which is rather unexpected from such an expensive software. The only workaround currently is to adjust the monitor's resolution, but it's very tedious & unreasonable to do so every time & then change the resolution again when working on other software.Ever since Illustrator introduced a scalable UI, I've found it so much more enjoyable to work with. I believe AE can & should definitely have one, too!
After Effects’ built-in Expression Editor needs a serious update. There are several critical issues that make writing expressions frustrating:Outdated font and tooltipsThe current editor uses a dated, hard-to-read font, and its tooltips are old-school and cluttered. Simply switching to a modern monospaced font and refreshing the tooltip design would greatly improve readability and comfort.Unhelpful error messages and code completionVague, cryptic error messages leave you guessing, and the autocomplete suggestions are often off-base typing a dot after an object still frequently yields irrelevant entries that trigger errors. A smarter IntelliSense that accurately lists properties and methods after a period would save countless headaches.Suggested ImprovementsModernize UI elementsAdopt a programmer-friendly monospaced fontEnhance syntax highlighting with additional themes and user customizationEnrich tooltips with type information and links to official documentationReal-time error detecti
I frequently perform simple tasks in After Effects onto hundreds of comps. There is no batch mode and it wastes ton of time. So I got curious if ChatGPT could generate JSX scripts that could automate these type of tasks for me. The result has been transformational on my workflow. So I'm proposing this feature be added directly into After Effects. Feature Request v1Imagine a text prompt window in After Effects where the user describes a single task. Then a text-gen-AI creates a JSX script to automate the given task. It'd be ideal to have the generated JSX scripts be saved and displayed within a GUI. Maybe the GUI can also organize, edit, and delete the JSX scripts. Feature Request v2But this idea could be taken even further. Ever used "Actions" with Photoshop? Well imagine "Actions" but for After Effects. So you could chain together multiple JSX scripts into a single "Action". In this way, you could bring together simple tasks and therefore automate a complex workflow that is

Hello!Currently, when you try to add a property with 3 dimensions (i.e. the position or orientation of a 3D layer) to the Essential Graphics panel After Effects returns a "Property Type Not Supported" error. This is not a huge limitation, as you can make scalar properties like sliders on the layer and link each slider to a component of the vector property. However, this requires 3 rows in the EG panel rather than the slicker 3-dimensional vector interface we're used to. Thank you for considering this request!
You know how you can take a clip in premiere (on the timeline) and right click it and say speed and choose whatever number you want? I wish I could do that in after effects and not this time remap nonsense. I dont want to do any math I just want to type in a percentage number just like how I do it in premiere. Is there some kind of 3rd party plugin that can help me? I have slo mo footage and I tried right clicking and choosing time stretch. But when I typed in stretch factor 350, I dont think it sped up the clip. I think it stretched it LONGER to 350% slower. This tool doesnt operate like premiere. Looking for one where I can type in 350% on a slow mo clip and it speeds it up 350%.
Would it be possible to have a command ID for mercury transmit for it to be accessable throught scripting.Using Mercury Transmit with NDI sometimes needs a Mercury Transmi restart (on and off) and it would be great if you could have a button for it in the UI and it could show the current state of the checkbox
When designing graphics to be super imposed in editing or live video situations, I make use of dummy footage, which I define as Guide Layer, to prevent them from being included in the final renders, where there should be alpha in stead of the dummy footage. Unfortunately, this Guide Layer is included when using the T switch (Preserve underlying Transparency), which makes it a lot harder to achieve some effects, such as combining Alpha and Luma matting. Please let Ae ignore the Guide Layers always, also in the compositing - guides should have no effect at all.
It is too rough to double or halve the magnification with a single zoom decision. It should be at least √2x or √√2x. ( Best would be for the user to be change-able this factor, or for it to be change-able scripting. )These values would make zooming smoother while maintaining the current 100% -> 200% -> 400% movement.
Sometimes it comes in handy to make the stabilazation (PSR mode) calculated by the Warp Stabilizer permanent by converting it to keyframes (for PSR data). Unfurtunately, Warp Stabilzer does not offer this. Please add a button to bake the motion.
I'm being asked to create captions both for animations/videos created in After Effects with little or no crossover with Premiere Pro or more elaborate captions than Premiere can handle on its own. I know some plug-ins exust but they're a very mixed bag with most really for Premiere Pro but with the ability to use MOGRTs created in AE. I'd love to simple be able to generate captions right in After Effects in a similar fashion as Premiere Pro so I can work with them directly in AE.
I’d like to suggest a feature for future versions of After Effects that would greatly improve workflow efficiency when working with complex compositions. Currently, the layer order in the timeline is directly tied to their visual stacking order, which limits flexibility when organizing projects with many layers. My suggestion is to implement a feature that allows users to rearrange the layers in the timeline without affecting their render or visual stacking order (for example, allowing layer 3 to appear below layer 1 in the timeline view, even if it's rendered on top). This would enable users to organize layers logically—by type, function, group, etc.—without altering the final output of the composition. This is especially helpful for projects with dozens or hundreds of layers. One possible solution could be the implementation of an alternate view mode or an option to “decouple visual stacking from timeline order,” similar to how groups or tags work in other software.
I use AE every day for more than 15y and I realised there is one thing I really hate (ok, maybe one of two. second is endless window menu when you have lot of comps opened and need to run script at the end of the list. Even "better" when you have more than twenty scripts installed).Everyday I literary cry and asking "why?!"My workplace looks like the first image. And every time I onen new viewer or just drag any panel to make it bigger temporarilly and return it back (comp panel up to show more layer, or viewer to see more, etc) it totally mess up my arangement and I need to fix panel sizes over and over, hundred times every day..I am used to use workplace presets, but it is not comfortable to wait until the whole panels setup load and draw. There should be icon on every panel to prioritize maintain its size, or just size all panels relatively to the one you resize, or maybe anything else, but actual state is something made me mad. Every time I change temporary my panel
Currently, MOGRTs made in After Effects miss the option to change font when they are used in Premiere. Additionally they are also missing the more detailed options of character properties:While we're at it, lets also have paragraph properties added: This feature has been requested since 2017. This is desperately needed. Please update this as soon as possible.
Parenting, matte, window, scripts menu are horrible to use when the list gets bigger than the screen. To scroll through these menus you have to click on little arrows up and down. They should be upgraded to something like the font menu where you can scroll it when it's open. Version 25.2.2 (build 2)
I nearly always zoom in and out using ctrl- / ctrl+, but often want to see my comp in the 'fit to view' magnification. It'd be nice if this was one of the 'stops' when zooming like this. I know it breaks the convention that each level of zoom is half/double the previous one, and it possibly might very slightly confuse someone in the rare situation if their window layout happened to mean that the 'fit' view is, say 52.3% (then zooming in from 50% would have a negligible effect), but I do think it'd be useful.Good idea, don't you think? Upvote! Upvote now!
Let us solo a Layer, even if it is invisible - maybe with a kind of 'peep' mode in which the layer is shown while the solo button is pressed, and is made invisible again when the button is released.Sometimes we need to see what a hidden layer (e.g. a matte) is looking like. Inthe current version, we need to turn on visibility first before it can be soloed. That is rather tideous.
So I use and animate with rounded rectangle a lot. I animate the size of it, and it always want's to animate the size from the centre. of the shape, where as I'd like to animate the size from a corner. I've been doing a round about way for years with an expression. https://youtu.be/_CucPSu7plM?si=e0ZS1OQyLvQiBmivbut I think there should be a drop down menu where you can choose a corner of keep it in the middle or have it be a free transform.
