After Effects

Hello AE Crew! Newish to AE, veteran VFX artist on other packages. I need to texture animated 3d letters with a material that uses an image input.  Looking at the material options in the 3d-ified text layer, i dont see any option for an image input. I also a google search didn't show anyone discussing a solution to this.  Is it possible to do this AE? I understand that there is now some version of C4D that can work directly with AE projects (do I have that right?). C4D can do this, but if I sent a 3D text layer that had keyframes on the Range Selector Animator property (so that the words are popping on) would C4D recieve that information?  Is it a viable workflow to take an animated 3d text layer on a round trip workflow from the AE timeline, to C4D to apply an image texture and then either rendered out or directly back to the AE timeline?  If this is not a viable workflow, is it possible to export an FBX or .obj sequence of my animated text to be tex

Hi all,Once upon a time I remember looking at a gallery of some sort that showed examples of the various animation effects presets (particularly the text 3D stuff).  For the life of me I can't remember where it was.  I thought perhaps it was in the Adobe Help System, or it was an html file in one of the doc folders.  But I cannot figure out where I saw this.  Strangely enough I searched this forum for 'effects example' , 'presets examples', 'effects gallery' and 0 results came up for each.  Can anyone point me to what I'm looking for, or did I imagine this all....?I'm still running CS3 if that makes a difference.Thanks,Chris

I created a "text animation composition" and I added this "text animation composition" into the "main composition", wich consists in a video with texts over it along the video.I was wondering if there is a way of change the sentence in this "text animation composition" directly from the "main composition". So this way I can duplicate the layer of the "text animation composition" inside the "main composition" without duplicating it in the project pannel.I imagine it may be an expression to change the sentence of one specific layer of the "text animation composition" without affecting the other dupicated layers. Actually I remember I saw this in a project of somebody else, but I don't recall where it was. Wish I explained my doubt well, thank you for any help!

i dont know why it keeps doing this. even after converting the interporlation to linear it still causes movin gup 

Hi, I'm getting this error code repeatedly every so often, force quitting helps very temporarily...The only solution I've been able to find for this problem is to change the renderer to regular 3D as opposed to the Cinema 4D engine, however I'm using some of the features from C4D (necessary to my project).Any recomendations or am I screwed?

I need to translate a video to Thai from English (among many other languages).  I get documents from the translator in Microsoft Word, in "Angsana New" and the Thai font looks great (meaning, any accents that are stacked above a character are correct).  However, when pasted into Adobe After Effects, the accents get "crushed down".  Here is an example:CORRECT THAIINCORRECT THAIAny assistance would be great!

Hello. I have the character rig, and I used time remap to animate the character's mouth. I removed the slider through essential graphics in the main composition. After I put the keyframe, I noticed that the time remap does not work correctly, sometimes it does not change the mouth, sometimes where there is no keyframe it makes the change. I saw that the 2018 edition came with a new feature for importing data from JSON and MGJSON. From my understanding, a MGJSON file has a timeline and is easier to integrate to AE. But I can't find any documentation, references to or examples of this filetype anywhere.If somebody have any documentation or know how the syntax of such a document is and if it even is simple enough to edit through a text editor, let me know!I'd love to be able to try this feature out.

AE 2024 latest version// Has anyone experienced your after-effects project switching compositions on you every time you update a value? Very annoying - no error codes or anything. Tried restarting and clearing the cache. Any suggestions?

How to disable the blue "whats new" tooltips that happen to cover the UI randomly. I really could not care less, what obsolete new menues are now available in AFX. and they wont disappear by clicking into the UI or onto the blue recangle. only when hitting the tiny "ok" button. UX Design at its worst. 

Hey!Is their any shortcut of cutting pre-comps in the timeline - so it cuts the pre-comp lenght in timeline from: where the first layers starts in pre-comp starts to the last one, instead of taking up space from start to finish in the master timeline, as shown in the attached image. Ofcourse I can go into the pre-comp and shorten the pre-comp time in Composition Settings etc, but there must be any better way right?Niklaz

I can't take this anymore. The last few weeks, rotobrush decides not to work. On 1080p and also 720p....Just one simple outline of a mans face. Simple stuff. Smooth lines. Same thing always happens.  It starts doing about 3 frames per second, chugs along fine, then gets slower, then eventually hangs, after about 10 seconds of timeline. 1) I cleared out the media disc caches.2) I have 32 gb of ram,  gtx1050ti, ryzen 7  a decent set up, especially for Standard Def!!!It's on cuda, installed the latest driver and still slow!!!Only thing I've done was make the usual updates.  I'm losing it. any ideas???? I selected 2.0 and quality STANDARD  and it reacts the same if I pick BEST. 1.0 is  nightmare, never use it.   I used to use 2.0 and BEST, and it would outline and render in a snap. Some new Adobe bug out there making people upgrade their GPU's  again?? I don't want to throw money at this problem.&nbsp

Hi, does the maximum resolution of an 32bit EXR  comped and rendered in 16bit or 32bit color mode depend on the installed RAM? I have 64GB RAM (16 GB reserved for other apps) and get an error (“Image buffers of size [width]x[height] @ [depth] bpc ([n] GB) exceed internal limits...”) when trying to render a comp at 11811x11811 pix. I could only use 8 bit mode for this comp and get a lot of color bending... So to avoid this issue I switched to half res and rendered everything in lower resolution.My system variables of virtual memory are set to 'use automatic...' I have multiple layers in the comp. So I am guessing I am over 2GB per frame.Can installing 128GB of RAM or even more solve something on this issue? I don't have 2 GB RAM per core (I have 2x10 cores with HT = 40 Cores). Is this problematic in any way? 

So this code (substituting the name of the user's home directory for [User Name] works great, the MOGRT is exported:app.project.items[1].exportAsMotionGraphicsTemplate(true, "/Users/[User Name]/Work/test") But this code throws an error saying the directory at ~/Work/test doesn't exist:app.project.items[1].exportAsMotionGraphicsTemplate(true, "~/Work/test") The ExtendScript debugger confirms the folder at ~/Work/test does in fact exist and is seen by the Folder object. This is a bug, right, and not something I'm just not getting?

I have a very unusual issue that I assume I accidentally triggered but can't seem to find out how to fix it. My delete key is still defaulted as the hotkey for 'clear' or 'delete' and it works for everything but it does not let me delete text while I'm typing with the text tool. I can delete text layers, and selected text boxes, but while typing something out, it will not let me delete anything. Is this some weird setting I hit or a bug?

Hello there, I am working on a project in After Effects, and I am having an issue with my lighting. This may be a novice question, but my point lighting doesn't move because I cannot find the RGB cursor to move the Point lights. Here is a screenshot of my project, as well as a screenshot from the tutorial I am watching. I have followed the step to Layer>New>Light>Point Light and have changed the parameters, but I cant MOVE THE LIGHT anywhere.Here is the photo of the video I am watching, where the user automatically has the RGB cursor on his screen when he applies his Point light. Hi! I've made a MOGRT with a simple text where the Premiere users of the MOGRT should not be able to change the font. I've sent it to test to someone who has the correct font installed, but in Premiere it uses another font anyway. Any tips? The font is Open sans so I don't think it's an standard Adobe font.

As title states - been having this issue since updating OS. After Effects will randomly freeze the whole OS and my Mac will blackscreen to a "your mac has shut down because of a probelm". When restarted, After Effects will not open: giving me a window about preferences. It will take me roughly 6 attemps every time to have this message stop so I can actually boot the programme again. Tried the fixes about document acess in another thread, but this was not needed as permissions were already granted.  Done a fresh install of Sonoma and wiped all files, and all aplications. Still hasn't fixed the issue. Specs if they help: 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB, 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4   panic(cpu 14 caller 0xffffff800e45c89b): userspace watchdog timeout: no successful checkins from WindowServer (2 induced crashes) in 120 secondsservice returned not alive with context : is_alive_func returned unhealthy : WindowServer initialization

Help if you can!AE 2024, working on an animation with a PNG series on a background. The main comp just drops some frames and my character vanishes from time to time.If I click into the sub-comp the frame is there. No missing frames.Rendered and previewed, just the same.

Im trying to render an mp4 to be used on a website with a specific BG colour.If i create a solid with the BG colour in AE it looks fine in the comp window. Once exported the bG color is slightly different, ruining the illusion of the mp4 being sat on the BG on the website. ANy ideas how to fix this?The attached image shows the original BG colour on the left, and rthe rendered colour on the right

Can anyone tell me how to completely turn off adaptive resolution? Now I have to do it every time for all comps. The thing is, it was off for all comps, but then (maybe, probably after the update to v24) it switched on for all comps for some random reason. As After Effects can apparently turn it on for all comps (without asking) I assume it can also be turned off for all comps, but I can't find that setting.I'm working on VFX for a series and have dozens of comps and even more nested comps and every time I start working on a shot I forget its on (since for the past 20 years I never used adaptive resolution as it's extremely unuseful for VFX work) and am startled because the image starts jumping around while scrubbing, making me think the tracking is wrong or whatever, or I want to roto something only to see the resolution drop exactly as I need the accuracy to make the roto.I know I can switch it off with the button underneath the composition panel (although that button is not present

Center Anchor Point in new Shape Layers is check marked. Rotation of a square shows it's anchor point is at the center. But rotation of a line drawn by using pen tool shows middle point is not at centre of that line. How to understand this? Video is uploaded.
