Thank you for your help with this. I'm new to AE and trying to learn some simple animations, like text bubbles appearing on screen. In the picture below, I have a Text Layer (God), and white Text box formed with a shape layer, and an image layer (drawing of God — no offense to anyone of religious persuasion, Ty). I'm trying to make these 3 layers behave as one so I made a precomp. I'd like that precomp to follow a very short curve, the way arriving text does on our phones. To do that, I created a path line as a shape layer and pasted the position data into the precomps position data. It works but it's a bit clunky. My issues is that the size of the 'bounding box' for the precomp is way larger than the images as they appear on screen. That makes it hard to set the precomp to follow the path. I tried moving the anchor point in the precomp far closer to the images, but it'd be better to have a smaller bounding box to do this with. Can I change the bounding box size. In the image bel
I have a composition in After Effects named "Comp1." It contains a nested composition named "Comp2," which in turn includes another composition named "Comp3." Could you please explain how I can add a property to "Comp1" that sets a value in "Comp3"?I have tried using various expressions and Essential Properties. Essential Properties allow me to change values from parent to child but only work one level deep. I thought, "That's fine, I'll just add an essential property to the parent and then add that property to its parent." However, this approach returns the error: "Essential Properties are not currently supported in the Essential Graphics panel." In other programs, I could simply write the code "this.parent.parent.propertyName," but this syntax is not available in After Effects.I have consulted multiple AE certified professionals and every AI in existence, yet I still cannot find a solution. Hello, The problem is auto-trace does not creating a mask for the whole size of my video, just a part of it.I imported my video, used keylight 1.2Created a rectangular mask, to remove walls out of both sides of green screen.Then I tried to use auto-trace, but it traced only a part of it (I suppose rectangular) P.s.I checked the beginning of the video, it traced ok.But it is true for only one frameHelp please, what I am doing wrong?Here is my options for tracing (sorry, it`s in Russian)I am using Windows 10 x64, intel core i5-3330 CPU 3Ghz, RAM 6 Gb , nvidia Geforce GT 640
I would love it if there was an option to pin a layer (or multiple layers) on top of a stack of other composition layers. Benefit? If I worked with any of the layers below, I would still have as visible reference audio waveform, markers, keyframes etc.I've attached a quick demonstration of the desired behavior.
The Mode and Track Matte colums in the timeline panel currently resize together, which can lead to a lot of unused space if trying to show longer layer names. Showing full layer names can be useful, as sometimes trying to parse them based on layer index can be harder, depending on the comp setup and number of layers. I'd like to suggest that either the two columns are individually resizable, or perhaps that the Mode column reads whatever the longest transfer mode name is in the UI language, and then stops at that point when the columns are being dragged out. That way the user could resize the Track Matte column to whatever they needed, and the Mode column would stop when it reached the widest it needed to be. Up until that point they behaviour could be the same as it is now. I understand that this is a non-trivial change to make - it would be nice from a UI point of view 🙂 Cheers!
It would be helpful to have additional shortcuts (eg. Shift + [ and Shift + ]) to move layers as a selection group. Currently, if a selection of layers have different inPoints, and you press [, the inPoint of every layer is set to the CTI. It would be incredibly helpful to be able to add a modifier this shortcut, so that the earliest inPoint of the selection is set to the CTI, and all other inPoints remain relative to that earliest inPoint. Same with the outPoint, based on the latest outPoint. Even better if this could also work for inPoint/outPoint trimming: if Shift is held (eg. Shift + Alt + [), inPoints/outPoints are trimmed with relative time, based on the earliest inPoint or latest outPoint.
I very rarely experience out-of-memory errors (other than AE's occasional self-imposed 2GB per frame limit, but that's a different issue) but when I'm using CC Power Pin with large images/video, an out of memory error during render is almost guaranteed. I am currently rendering a comp, which includes CC Power Pin, using Software Only (during render, AE gobbles up ALL of my 128GB RAM) because using GPU acceleration fails because my GPU has "only" 24GB VRAM, and the render exceeds this. The comp (it is an imported Photoshop 5-layered image) that causes the issue is 5464x10000 - a large comp but by no means insanely huge - dropped into a 4K 16:9 comp with CC Power Pin added. I'd have thought that 24GB VRAM should be enough to calculate the corner pin effect, but apparently not. May I suggest that either/both Corner Pin and CC Power Pin are updated to be more efficient?
Hello!I'm writing here because I noticed what I think could be a bug in the Italian version of Ae (at the moment running the 24.3 version). Selecting "font" from the expressions menu I noticed that Ae automatically use quotation marks (") as container of the font name BUT, at least in the Italian language, expression should use the apostrophe glyph (') to work correctly.Using the quotation marks expression simply won't work, giving syntax error on that code line, having to edit the text string manually. Is this something that could be fixed in a future update? Or is it something that can't be differentiate from language to language? Thanks!
This happens to me several times a day: When pressing space bar to play preview, the menu item "Use Display Color Management" switches to on.I then have to manually switch it back off.Later it will turn on again. The same goes for "Show Layers Controls" which turns off randomly. (But not on)Seems like something's going on in the View-menu.....I have not been near any keyboard shortcuts.(Besides, it would be strange if I was able to hit a pretty obscure shortcut several times everyday by accident.)After Effects 24.1MacOS 14.2.1(But this behaviour has been ongoing for years on all my Macs)
Greetings, System Specs Intel I7 137000kIntel UHD Graphics 770NVIDIA GeForce RTX 406064 GB RAM2T SSD4T HHDAll drivers are up to date.I'm using two monitors one is hooked up to the motherboard HDMI port and the other to the NIVIDA Graphics card. Issue: In preferences under preview the only GPU information listed is for the Intel CPU GPU. I want After Effects to use my NVIDIA GPU. How do I fix this? I'm eternaly greatful for your support.
When using rotobrush if I click play, it works for a second or two and then display an orange bar saying I need to free up some memory, and then just loop back a second or two making no more progress. Quitting all other adobe apps allows this to procecss a little more frames, but eventually the orange bar still appear. Going forward frame by frame (PgDn) works fine. It never runs out of memory. I just get tired pressing PgDn. Why would "play" run out of memory? It's just repeating frame by frame automatically.
I've just installed Adobe After Effects for future projects I want to work on and began practicing using it, I saw this tutorial on how to do an effect I liked and tried it out. While messing with the time settings I made my timeline look weird? It doesn't display seconds anymore, and I really don't know how to navigate this, any help on how to make my timeline display seconds instead of whatever this is?

Hello all, Has anyone else experienced a severe drop in application performance speed and responsiveness (lastest After Effects 22.6) to the point where event clicking/unclicking layer icons can take several seconds to take effect after updating their Windows 11 OS with the latest update? Literally everything has slowed down within After Effects including skipping from one frame in a composition to another.Also, render times have exponentially increased in time compared to previous. I have a solid PC Laptop with very high specs and before the Windows Update (2 days ago) After Effects was working speedily without any problems.I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed anything similar and if there are any solutions (apart from trying to revert back to previous Windows state)? Why is it that when I try to generate tracking points, it just goes all over the place? As you can see on the attached video, it just can't track properly. Is it because the video is low res?

Yes, I've been using Stream Deck devices that have dials for a while. I can use them to scroll through the timeline, move layers in the timeline, zoom in and out of the timeline. There are a lot of possibilities and these types of devices help a lot in my work.Currently, turning the dial works by pressing shortcuts. This is slow and unresponsive.Zooming is abrupt and very imprecise.You move the Time Indicator differently with the mouse cursor and differently by turning the dial.It seems to me that it is high time to introduce support for this type of device.

Hi, i am trying to use After Effects for projection mapping, however when i go to After Effects> settings > video preview, to Enable Mercury Transit the display box is empty. It isnt even showing the display on my laptop. I am using a Macbook Air with M1 chip running macOS Sonoma 14.4.1. Is there a work around for this? My composition settings match my HD projector, and frame rate is set to 30.
Hi there! Wasn't there a tool to un-precompose with Automation Blocks? I remember asking for it before, but can't find it. In any case, can it be created for un-precomposing multiple layers at the same time? It becomes very useful when I take a lot of texts from Pr to Ae an they come like this And this are not in the same timestamps, each one is separated so the un-precompose should paste the elements on the same time too. Thanks a lot and sorry if this is a repeated topic. I tried looking for it
I'm trying to create a globe sphere in After Effect using the cc sphere preset. I have a world map and a rectangle which will form the actual sphere, as two separate layers (which I created in Illustrator). I precompose them and then apply the cc sphere preset but the edges of the rectangle remain separeted causing a blank space in the sphere (see attachment). I've tried increasing the dimension of the rectangle but it doesn't seem to solve the issue. Can anyone suggest a fix? Many thanks
