I have a quite simple puppet, with only one view, no head turns, just the front. Just like in Dave Werners Tutorial I added Arm IK to the top level puppet. Every bodypart is found, just once, like it needs to. But it does not work. I can stretch the arms to infinity and beyond and elbows cannot change direction. Does anybody see a mistake? Where can I start my search?
Hi there, CA community, I have a scene where I would like to have a vehicle moving across the screen. I've figured out how to control the Y axis for smooth movement, by attaching a slider to the control panel, and enabling the axis to record from the Transform behaviour - but I need the vehicle wheels to rotate to make it work properly. Is there a way to set up auto rotation, without having to bind this to a slider or dial somehow? Or if I apply physics, would the wheels turn from friction with the floor? I susupect the answer is just to do this over the top of the scene in After Effects - but just thought I'd check first.
Hi! Character Animator was working great for me until I ran into this issue: I updated the name of an eye layer in my PSD file, and now whenever I try to edit the puppet in Character Animator, I get this error message. Tried importing the puppet in a new project, tried reverting the changes in the PSD; no dice. This is a commissioned project, so I'm hoping I can figure this out soon. 😕😕 Thanks!

I think I've tried just about everything to get this body to show up. I had a developer customize some of the Chloe artwork for Character Animator, and have been trying to work (on a deadline) to create some simple animations with her. I have gotten just about everything to work, besides the fact that her body won't show up in the Record view. I had the body originally set to change views off of layer swap triggers, but since encountering this problem I have tried to delete it out to see if that's what was causing the problem. I then tried to reimport all the original artwork and start rigging her from scratch....this did not work either. Only the head and torso show up. My hunch is that the layer hierarchy I'm using isn't right, but since CA is updated so frequently, I feel like the tutorials on the proper layer order are greatly outdated. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction to get this character's body to show up?See the attached pictures for my Ri
For the federal election here in Canada I did this video of a muppet singing to the voters.https://youtu.be/E7JtIxRrRVsThere is a lot of laughing through the creation process of this clip. Please enjoy !Thanks to Adobe and Okay Samurai for the tips and tools ! The rhinoceros party is a satirical political party in America. They make fun of themselves and of politicians.
Hello Character Animator community! I'm working on a shot with a character in the middle of the screen and a foreground and background. The character in the middle has a walk cycle and can point right or left but has body speed set to 0% so she doesn't actually move. The foreground and background elements have walk cycles and have a body speed of -30%, with the foreground set to "run" and the background to "walk" so they move slightly different for paralax. The effect works well, the issue is that from an editing standpoint I can't scrub the timeline and get an accurate look at the scene. If I scrub back and forth the background and foreground get out of alignment more and more, so the only way to accurately see how the scene will end up is to rewind to the beginning, refresh the scene and watch the whole thing at real time speed, which for a multi-minute scene can add up. My question is, is this normal behavior, or am I doing something wrong? The foreground and background ha
Hallo allemaal. Hello everyoneI animated a character, which can walk. He could do that, erverything worked. But one thing wet wrong: Unfortunately his knees move in the wrong direction. The character walks to the right, but his knees bend to the left. How can I change that? Last week everything worked fine, but when I reopened the program yesterday, my legs suddenly moved in the wrong direction. I don't know why. I changed nothing in the Programm since last week. This is what my character looks like. The origins are already set.And this is how the Character looks if he is walking: Thank you for your help,Ciao, Tanja
Ok it has been a few months since I dove into Character Animator. I created a character, where he has 5 outfits that he can change into. Just like the old video that Dave shared of the Iron Man like character, I could toggle between the versions. Luckily the changes are not animated. Or... I could record each separately. Then edit the clips together. What sounds easier? Note: Each character is full of layers. I know how to max out Illustrator. So it has tons of layers: gradients, shadows, clipping masks, etc. _ _ _ _ _ The other question. I am using a background photo. Should I animate the character completely in Character Animator with the background saved as a jpg? Or is it easier to bring the character into After Effects after I do the recording? What is easier? Granted I have never really used After Effects. _ _ _ _ _ Other question, once everything is done... if I decide to add music can I do so in Adobe Pr
I can't seem to solve this. If I uncheck the crowns on head and/or body, they don't work together. If I check them, the head distorts. Help!! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IVNC-SwAbXmv6TzNlE5pzyDAaSzMBZ5N/view?usp=sharing
I occasionaly get this flappy wrist on my characters and I can't seem to figure out why or how to fix it. here is an example: Watch Video
If this was your character to animate how would you animate that part of the dress highlighted in a red circle without causing background gaps or precomposing the layor? because i dont want the image you see in front of you to have the part circled in red animated and moving like a wave over duplicated image where you can see the first layor dress over the wave moving one thats over it
I have modeled a character in Zbrush, put the obj/mtl/bmp (only 1 texture map for the mesh) in a zip file, and after import the character appears only solid black. Uploading the obj alone works without any problem and the untextured character can be animated.

Hi GuysI recently created a scene with characters on Vespa's.Because I am new to animation I didn't know how to make hair flow in After Effects so I created my puppets on their Vespa's in Character Animator and rigged them on a walk cycle with very low strength and other settings, and added physics to get the hair flowing, also added cycle layers to the animals and physics to some of their ears and tails, this also gave everything on the Vespa a small up and down movement as if they were on a bumpy road, then imported to After Effects to add the wheels and handbags. Most of my characters had handbags moving on their arms...Question...Is there a way to have the handbags move like I have done in After Effects in Character Animator without having to export 2 separate files eg. the body then the arm over the bag into After Effects? Also would be good to be able to rotate the wheels in CA also. All my characters will have bags with them and for all of them I don't know how to get this to work
I just watched Dave's latest youtube video and downloaded his puppet. (September 2019). I downloaded the zip file and opened it. I double clickedon the CH file and it opens up Character Animator... but it's an empty file.... It states the it is a temporary file.... I can't get it to work. There is no puppet. Please help . I am paying a lot of money for CC and it's not working. Title edited by Mod
Hi there, I'm trying to follow the instructions from the movie Character Animator Tips & Tricks (December 2016) - where Dave is showing how to create a multi-view camera system to add variation to your compositions, and switch using triggers. Dave has this effect in the most recent Advanced Rigging movie too, and it looks great. I think I've followed this to the letter, and the puppet looks perfect in each of the 3 views in Puppet mode - but when I switch to the scene to try to record, my puppet is tiny - i.e. the size it would be in the full shot. I've placed this puppet in each of the 3 views, and changed its scale to match each - full, mid and close up, and set triggers, and set them as a swap set. The triggers work ok - but the puppet never changes size with the backgrounds - it just stays tiny. Any ideas?
I used the "Compute Lip Sync from Scene Audio" option but I now can't adjust the visemes. Other forums have said you select the audio input bar and select "split into visemes" from the Timeline bar but this option isn't there. Not even greyed out, just not there. Don't know what to do. I've enclosed a screenshot
I have some files here for a puppet that has three positions and a pose in a swap set. His walk animation looks good for his right (default) profile, but it doesn't work for the "run away" swap and stopped working for the left. Here are the files:https://www.dropbox.com/s/fvlgs9onus32u4b/Chibi_Duke.ai?dl=0https://www.dropbox.com/s/vww7jvepnqldz4s/Duke_HelpForums.puppet?dl=0Other questions:•Why does his upper arm stretch downward during the walk animation? ✅It looks like the walk animation uses predetermined proportions, which this style obviously doesn't have. I fixed it by putting "fake" wrist tags below the real wrists to trick it into thinking the proportions are different.•I want to have him twirl his cane. Can transformations be animated? Or do I have to use cycle layers? ✅Thanks alank99101739!
Hello...Running Mac 10.14.5Character Animator 2.1.11)Why would character lips sync lag so much behind audio. Quiet room. Using built in mic. Any ideas how to get the me and the character on the same page?2) Just curious - Can you use the iphone like Crazy talk?Cheers!
Hi,I have a scene set up in Character Animator with three puppets and three separate .wav audio tracks. I've already had each puppet lip sync to the audio. The problem is, I'm trying to use the webcam to record each character's movements. Sometimes the audio plays when I push "record," but most of the time it doesn't. The audio always plays when I push "play" and watch my finished scene. Is there a way I can get the audio to play while I'm recording without overwriting the audio?
Hi. Where can I find the basic face to animate?. I 've been watching the tutorial videos but can't really manage to start the animation are there any other references?- Thanks Title edited by Mod
Ok. I decided to try out Character Animator once more after not touching it for a couple of years because of how perplex it is. So... uhm... I made some images with elements that I think I'll need for a super-simplistic puppet. I'm going for a very minimalist style. Just a body, face, eyebrows and mouth. I actually don't want face and body to move. Only the eyebrows would be tracked and the mouth would be standard open and close loop. And glasses are opaqe so no eyes will be seen. So I have the images: - Body- Head- Left eyebrow- Right eyebrow- Glasses- Mouth in three shapes (closed, slightly open, opened full). I made them in Krita (I'm just used to drawing there nowadays) and I exported them as separate png's. And... now what? No matter what I do it seems CA treats all imported images as their own puppets? The guides I find are all talking about doing it all as layers in a photoshop file... do I need to import the images to layers there? Feel
is there a way to attach a dragger to another and have an elastic animation. like in Arabic characters when they walk or females with skirts. there is always an elastic animation when they walk
