Dreamweaver

This may have been answered at some point, but I can't seem to find it after searching the threads. I'm currently taking a beginning DW course.  I've been doing the exercises on my Imac desktop up till this point with no issues.  I also have a laptop with DW that has the same icloud account as the desktop, and all the files seem to stay current on both computers, except for the site definitions (I can't find them on the laptop when opening DW).  I would like to do some work on the laptop when on the go.  My question is: do I have to define the site again on the laptop in order to work on the same materials that I would on the desktop?  Or should I just avoid trying to do work on a specific site on different computers?

I was minding my own business, taking care of some minor updates to my 100 DW sites, and all of a sudden, I couldn't see the sites anymore.    In the upper right-hand corner where my sites used to be displayed, I get:     Using file manager, I see the sites under  HomeImac2020 as directory Sites: :     I scrolled it but could not find anything related to the 100 sites I had for years.   That means I cannot access them or update them.   I am using an iMac with the latest OS and version 21.5 of DW..   I am puzzled!   ALSO, the "Manage Site" dialog box comes up empty!  It used to be full of the names of my sites.    I cannot get  DW to see HomeImas2020   Any help would be appreciated   http://lilesnet.com   Paul Liles [email address removed by Moderator - this is to stop spammers from hammering your inbox]

Enhance your CSS with preprocessors |I've been watching this video and trying following along. The narrator says that a CSS file is automatically created, but I'm not seeing it in my folder. I'm working with Dreamweaver CC 2018. What do I need to do to create a compiler? I just started learning SCSS this morning, however, I've written CSS for quite awhile. Do I need to have a CSS file set up?

Either using Dreameaver version 20 or 21  on Windows 11 - it crashes right after startup or when trying to open another HTML file. There seems to be a bug with the split view mode. When I just view in code view, there no issue in crashing or trying to open multiple documents.  Resetting preferences didn't help. I prefer to use split view mode so I can easily see the images and apply the links quickly and efficiently when at work.

I've been using Dreamweaver since it was a Macromedia product and, despite Adobe's best efforts, it is still the most fully featured and useable tool ina web designer/developer's toolbox. So why is Adobe behind with updating the software? All we get is minimal updates for security patches only, and no real innovation from Adobe since CS6 around a decade ago!Adobe likes to ignore the web design/developer comunity, a fact that is shown that Adobe Max hasn't mentioned the software at all for five years.Let's face it, you are milking the product whilst trying to kill it. And now your latest update (May 2025) causes so much frustration with sudden crashes for no reason makes me think you are trying even harder to force people away.So time to step up Adobe.  Are you killing it,  saving it, or going to commit to developing the top tool in web design/development (an area that is growing four times more over than Graphic Design according th the BoLS)?Time for answers... 

Hello, This is my first time using Dreamweaver and everything seemed to be going well until I tried to add a drop down menu to my navigation bar. While the list items are being added, they appear beside the button they're supposed to be underneath of- like they're a part of the main navigation bar and not a drop down. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it, but every piece of CSS I try to add distorts the larger navigation bar while still not bringing the two menu options down. I've included a screenshot of my screen and how it appears in the preview, can anyone tell me where I went wrong?

How do I upload an edited page in Dreamweaver without re-uploading all the images? It's taking too long to upload a simple text edit. I don't remember it taking so long in older versions of the software. Is there an easy fix or setting? I am using the latest version (Mac).

All my files won't save just pressing "ctrl + s" nor physically going to menu FILE -> SAVE.Right now, only way I can save is by overriding with "Save As" on top of the same file.anyway to fix this issue?

Finally trying my hand at a contact form - https://pitchlab.net/contact/  before I dive into server side I need to make sure it works properly and there are two issues- minor but annoying: first issue is the textarea for "Message" is behaving like an input in that it is limiting the width you can type.. a text area should allow you to type all the way across.. and finally- the form div wont center - I used a parent container flexbox for the columns and a div wrapping the  form and it wont center..   my parent:.contact_flex_container {width:100%;height:100%;display: flex;justify-content:center;align-items: center;padding-top: 10vh;} my form div: .form_container{justify-content: center;} any help would be appreciated!

When I create a custom code theme via Edit->Preferences->Interface it doesn't appear in the box so I can't edit it. It does seem to exist somewhere though, because If I try to make another custom themee with the same name it tells me it already exits. Is there any way to make the theme appear so that I can actually use it?

After installing verion 21.5 on a new Mac running Sequoia, the Code Hints or code completion does not work even with manual control-spacebar.   I  have the box checked to "Enable code hints" in Settings>Code HInts, and also tried linting changes. I read the brackets.json file needs a specific line of code  "codehint.Hints":{"javascript":true}.  which it does not have, but I cannot edit the file as it's read only. Earlier I had a notification appear about extensions available to edit, but I didn't insall any and it says "(no extentions availble)"  so not sure if that's part of it. Not sure what to do or how to recreate the brackets file.

Hi there, im on macos with a intel based mac from 2020 and on sequoia 15.6.Spec - 32 gb ram and 2,3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7. Dreamweaver wont open or run, none of the available versions seems to run at all, it seems to boot but either crashes during launch or becomes unresponsive and cant be used at all. All the documentation and older issues similar to mine had fixes but none seem to work. I tried contacting support but the chat bot wont tell their opening hours so therefore im posting here hoping for a solution. Thanks in advance

Just upgraded from Dw CS6 to CC. I used to select a group of text by clicking a line number, holding shift and then clicking another line number but this doesn't seem to be working in CC. I can't find in the MissingManual that this is a feature in CC either. Is this a feature they have removed? Such shame if so! You'd think it doesn't matte as you can drag the mouse still to select multiple lines of text, however the shift-only method is very handy when highlighting a specific line and the scrolling down over a page (or more) and then accurately selecting the next line. I quite like to set my own shortcuts for Dw. If this is a removed feature, is it available to create a shortcut for it? I've had a look but can't seem to see where this would be possible either. Something has gone haywire with my website's menu. Compare:https://bassett.net with https://arleneeakle.com.Other than colors they used to work the same. On mine,... look at Replacement "Left Menu" until fixed... at the top. The resulting menu is what I used to have in the left sidebar, like the white/green menu in Arlene's sidebar. But now, I only see a tiny bit of it and most is "off screen". One day it was working fine, and the next it was broken. I noticed it about the same time my husband died and I'm just now having a bit of time to figure out what's wrong. I don't recall making any changes to the website around the time it broke but couldn't swear to it. Two other things about the same time. Like Arlene's right sidebar, I have an image that is at the top of the right menu that is missing. The other is that there is something making the top of the center panel indented. It's much more noticeable on https://www.bassett.net/pages/pets.shtml. Anybody see anything obvious?

Hi: I need to make an Anchor Link in Dreamweaver 2020. It used to be easy with the Insert Menu, but now it is Code -- with NO instructions! I was lucky to find "Properties" in Windows, but all Tutorials seem to be geared toward Dreamweaver 2013 -- even the Adobe Chat guy gave me Menu instructions that no longer work -- then said to use this Forum. Very frustrated and way too much time trying to figure out what ysed to be very easy on Dreamweaver -- and no longer exists. Any help? 

I am using version 2.1 at the suggestion of support until they get the bugs out. I am Mac. I am sure the time I invested in learning BootStrap will pay off, but not today! The "Cards featue" I liked an be manually coded, and that may be best!!! I hope the get it working soon. I don't know. how to get a more up to date version, but will call Monday. Sso... disiregard the online tutorials. Theyare not for  the latest version? or not for Mac. Good luck everyone. 

I am using Bootstrap 4 for my page and this Nav bar. While in full screen it all looks good , I am battling with the layout when resizing the screen for mobile phone.Firstly I would like to have the contents on the right instead of left andSecondly, would it be possible to limit the horizontal size to only extend as far as the contents go.Please see attached screenshot.Thanks for all help and advice, regards Ed  

I've been using Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 (code view only) since it first came out.  I tried Adobe's later versions a couple times over the years, but found them uglier, slower, and less reliable.  So I stuck with Dreamweaver 8. This week our server was upgrade to a version which no longer supports whatever [outdates] SSH ciphers Dreamweaver 8 uses.  The server folks are unwilling to make security exceptions for me, so they said I should switch to a newer version of Dreamweaver.  I've been trying Dreamweaver 21.5 but find it ugly, slow, buggy, and harder to use (especially when it comes to file management) than Dreamweaver 8.  I've said as much to the server folks and they said I could try to use Dreamweaver 8 with an SSH proxy, but I don't know how to do that. So my question are: Does anyone here have experience with getting older versions of Dreamweaver (like the late, great version 😎 to connect to servers which require new SFTP ciphers?

In Dreamweaver 21.5's Files window, each file has </> or <?> to the left of it (followed by a lock icon or check mark).   I don't mind the lock icons and check marks, but what is the point of the "</>" and "<?>"?  They are ugly and don't tell me anything interesting. Is there a way to turn off the "</>" and "<?>"? Thanks! 

I do all my work in coding view (PHP, HTML, CSS, JS), and usually have 10-20 tabs open.  I'm constantly switching between them. Sometimes when I switch to a tab, the wrong file's contents are visible.  For example, yesterday I switched to a .php file's tab, but Dreamweaver shows me the contents of an HTML file instead.   I switched to other tabs, and they looked fine, but when I switched back to the "bad" PHP tab, it still showed me HTML.  I then closed and restarted Dreamweaver, and this time that PHP tab showed the correct contents. So, it seems like Dreamweaver 21.5 got "confused" and associated the wrong file's contents with a tab. Has this happened to anyone else? And is there a way to prevent it from happening? Thanks!

Having just purchased the latest Dreamweaver I am totally lost in maintaining some older .asp sites. I added the extension to bring back the database bindings but I am yet to find anyplace to move the recordset fields into my html. Is there another extension I need to purchase that makes it like the old Dreamweaver 8 or am I going to have to abandon the new Dreamweaver and run an installation of Windows 7 with DW8? Am I missing something? I am an old dog so it is hard for me to learn new tricks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Phil
