I really wish After Effects had blendmode previews like Photoshop. In PS, when you rollover different blendmodes you can see what each will look like without having to click on each one and it saves so much time! In AE it takes 2 clicks along with having to navigate to each blendmode, which can be extremely time consuming when you're trying to find the right look or compare different blendmodes. Thank you,Shayne

I'd like to suggest adding an option to choose if a pre-comp inherits the label colour from the parent comp it was created in. This could live as a checkbox in the pre-compose modal, or if that wants to remain as uncluttered as possible it could be an option in Preferences > Labels. The use case for me is project organisation - I tend to use one label colour for top-level shots, then colour-code pre-comps as needed. It adds a layer of additional management to go through and change the pre-comps so they don't have the same label as the top-level comps.
I have a number of comps that uses a csv to show a leaderboard for RC car racing. I import the data into a csv from data from our scoring software. And that works great. But come time to do any kind of animation it just isn't practical. Solutions I have and can try. Turning off the exprerssions. Do the animations and turn them on when the render is being done and variations of shying and hiding. Another solution is Easy Bake plugin or similar. Use posterize(0) at top of expression. Now all methods help at times and at the same time are just tiresome. Why doesn't Adobe create a AE function that forces AE to evaluate that expression only once in the comp.Or it could even have a time input where you could trigger it.OK so imagine a function calledforceEvaluate(time = inPoint)so we use this function when we want AE to only evaluate the expression that follows/or proceeds it at the inputed time value. To me it seems possible. I mean AE holds the data for a value of a property it just doe
Increment and Save is very useful feature and i use it all the time. one request, when i start my comp as v000 as color or lineup check and when i use increment and save of shot v000, it save as v2. could you change it to save v001? (current) comp_v000 ---> comp_v2(change to) comp_v000 ---> comp_v001 thanks,t
A toggle button in the Graph Editor to make different channels display normalized 0-100% relative to the Graph Editor view. The time (graph along X) would stay matched per frame, but the value (graph along Y) would normalize top to bottom according to it's individual lowest and highest value. This would allow more than one channel (e.g., Position X and Rotation Y), if values are far off from each other (Pos.X 5000-6000, Rot.Y 0-45º), to display fully in the graph editor as opposed to being two nearly horizontal lines at the top and bottom of the graph. This would greatly help in animating more than on property at the same time, as is common in animation.
Would be great to be able to copy a gradient created in .ai to either a layer gradient blend or grad effect in .ae!
Lately AE, Figma and Lottie are key tools for UI design, but I've noticed that it doesn't natively include Angular Gradient within AE, and it would be just great to have that option to add in stroke or fill.
This should be a basic thing but its not really. When I make an animation I often need to repeat the same distance between different keyframes.I haven't found any smart way of doing this other than making a new solid on top and using that layer as a ruler - cause i can adjust it easy.I wonder if there is a smarter way of doing this? Or if a new tool / Smart snapping or other could be made.I know i can copy keyframes, but in this case i cant use that since its moving a long element to another point (long slide with images). Also there is multible elements i want to messure. Fade in, scroll and fade out. Here is my simple ruler layer.
As a video editor, I always strive to optimize my workflow and improve my efficiency. I find the user interface and organization of Adobe Premiere Pro to be incredibly user-friendly and intuitive. Therefore, I would love for Adobe After Effects to have a similar workflow and organization as well as UI. This would not only make it easier for me to navigate and use the software but also help me to stop seamlessly switch between the two apps while working on my video projects. I find After Effects a great app for motion graphics, and such. Yet, it fails to handle big files unlike its sibling Premiere Pro.
Please add a loop option in the Time section so we can easily loop precomps:
Let's start off by acknowledging one of the efficient features in After Effects that allows us to remove keyframes from any property simply by clicking the time-vary stopwatch. It's like an undo button for commitment. Recently, I've been baking in some expressions for a comp. To speed up my workflow, I've run some expressions that tailor each comp according to a CSV file, essentially creating a dynamic racing scoreboard. However, this process has a minor downside - it's like a really enthusiastic party planner, it puts a keyframe on every single frame. So, I manually hit the time-vary stopwatch to blast away the keyframes - a quick fix but not ideal considering the multitude of layers and properties in play.My initial thought was to script a solution to obliterate these unwanted keyframes. While it works as intended, it's a bit like watching a snail complete a marathon. It iterates through every single keyframe on my selected properties, which is just painfully slow. I've fo
I've recently gotten into scripting and realised that creating masses upon masses of null objects just fills up the solids folder. The alternative is to use shape layers, but these don't behave the way I'd like. For example, when you hide UI controls, null objects are also hidden. Even if you make a shape layer a guide layer After Effects still renders it (unless it's nested in another comp). Void from Battle Axe is evidence of nulls/solids being a general annoyance of a number of After Effects users. (Solids do come in handy though, let's keep those)My idea is kind of an overhaul of how Null objects are created. They wouldn't have a source solid layer, instead would just exist similar to shape layers. They would behave as they currently do:Able to be hidden when UI is turned offRetain the smalled dotted line texture that maintains scale regardless of zoom levelWith some additions:Size parameter: also with the addition of more 3D features in After Effects, having a 3rd dimens
Idea: When you select the rotation tool (W) you get a "Set: Rotation/Orientation" dropdown. This is the only way to change this setting that I'm aware of. An important setting that remains hidden most of the time. When you have the select tool selected (v), and you select the "rotation" gizmo, no such dropdwon appears. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out where the rotation dropdown box was hiding becasue I selected the wrong rotation item in the toolbar. Proposal: Rotation setting dropdown should appear in both instances. If there are other ways to change this setting, please make it visible more often!
When you enable 3D for a layer in After Effects, if that layer has nodes(points), such as a regular square created with the rectangle tool, each individual point should be able to be pushed/pulled on the X,Y, or Z axis individually instead of the whole object. This would provide more value to not only using the tools already in the program, but also create another technique to showcasing 2D elements within a 3D space.
Am I the only one who'd like a search feature in the Render Queue tab?I often have projects with a long list of render jobs. When doing a TV series episode I try having all shots inside a single AE project - makes iterating a 1000 times faster 😉I often find myself struggling to find a render job already created for a given shot - they aren't always in their numerical order - rather the order the shots were made.We can't sort the Render Queue by the list collumns (maybe another feature request?), at the very least it would be nice to have a similar search feature that we have in the timeline panel where we can search/filter layers by name.
Not sure if this is a bug or a feature request. But Ive found that the Opacity setting for Strokes in Shape Objects is missing from the new Properties panel. When I create a new shape and apply a stroke using the new Properties panel, the Opacity setting for the stroke for that shape is missing and is only accesible in the timeline panel drop-downs. I think it would be good idea to add the Stroke Opacity setting underneath the Stroke Colour in the new Properties panel. Thanks!!
In After Effects 2023, choosing the new OCIO color management engine sets the project working space to linear ACEScg. The gamma options are greyed out so there is no confusion and no manual setting for linear compositing. This is all great! But the user can still choose between 8 / 16 / 32 bpc.OCIO / ACES should be 32 bits only. You cannot do linear compositing in 8 bit, and AFAIK if you try to work in 16 bit then you'll get problems with overbrights and potentially very weird color artefacts. So - if you choose the new OCIO color engine, then the project should be locked to 32 bits, just like the gamma is locked to linear.
Using CSS, it is impossible to determine the viewport size when an extension panel becomes smaller than 132px. As previously mentioned here, this limitation takes away control from the developer, and can cause layout issues. It also encourages developers to create larger CEP panels instead of small compact ones, which affects the user experience.
Hi everybody, I don't know if something like this currently exists, but having the ability to highlight expressions would be great for remembering where key lines of code were (like two months later) or if I have to hand off a template file to somebody who doesn't relaly use expressions and tell somebody else, "it's the lines of code highlighted in orange, change x variable". Granted, one can always comment, and maybe there's a different approach that's it's equal but having something that would be really nice to have. As always, thanks for reading.
Currently sourceRectAtTime ignores whitespace characters at the beginning and/or end of referenced text layers.egThe reported width of "Sample Text" and " Sample Text " are the same since it is only looking at rendered pixels.I am having to write a bunch of extra code to account for this and think it would be great if there were just another arguement within the sourceRectAtTime method you could flag that would consider the width of whitespace characters or not depending if set as true.
This has never really been an issue for me in the past, but at the moment I find myself working on movie projects at 24 fps and HDTV PAL projects at 25fps in parallel. I keep getting tripped up by sequences defaulting to the wrong frame rate on import (admittedly, when I forget to interpret the footage manually) It strikes me that this really should be a project setting, rather than an application preference. Or at least there could be a project setting that overrides the application preference.
I have looked into the possibility of batch processing to archive a large number of AEPs, but it doesn't seem to be possible. https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/collect-files-scriptable/m-p/11431767 Not being able to archive automatically causes a lot of inconvenience in the studio. How do we send them to the render farm in their complete form? How do we deliver 100+ AEPs to the client? Wouldn't it be useful if we could give aerender.exe a "-collectfiles" option and specify the destination directory as an argument?and could give app.executeCommand(); more option? I hope After effects will become a Studio Ready product.
Patching mogrt files together for graphical improvements on the way videos are presented immagine if i could patch mogrt files togeterher easily define what one file does with words then apply the same context of visual information to another file Example https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRKSJMQH/ Make one text graphic merge with another and then add one more I wanted laser text that was displayed in a winter snow fall style while filling the screen with a certain display sequence all the while being shown as though it was coming from outer space floating glitter ai would solve this but if not now, when ?
Please implement a way to generate SmartVectors just like in Nuke. As a VFX producer & artist working on TV and streaming with extremely fast deadlines, I could get so much done in terms of tracking and stabilization if we could generate SmartVectors/stmaps/UVmaps from footage. Nuke not only has this feature, but now has multiple ML implementations of it, which can give even more accurate results. You already have an optical flow algorithm, that means you're a bit of math away from SmartVectors. Please! For those of who haven't left for Nuke, we're being left behind, and it's only a matter of time until we're forced to switch.
