Hi Framers, I'm trying to put Tab Stops with Leaders in a Table. It appears that's not possible. Im I missing something? Thanks! Sam
When wanting to edit an imported jpg file with photoshop using the shortcut esc + l + g FM opens RoboScreenCapture instead of Photoshop - as the shortcut is IDENTICAL! How can I change the keyboard shortcut or how can I use a shortcut to open photoshop and NOT RoboScreenCapture?Anybody got an idea?
Hello Framers! Is it possible to add a Cross-Reference on a Master Page?I'm trying to provide a method for the document user to reference another chapter from anywhere in the current chapter. The document I'm converting from has a side header on every page that accomplishes this.I know it's not the typical FrameMaker convention but I'm trying to accomodate a client. Thanks!Sam
Hello,Seemingly overnight my option when being able to print a book to PDF has disappeared. Yesterday, I was able to select a book in Framemaker, go to File > Print Book, and then have Adobe PDF be the Printer option in the menu. Now, that option is gone and the only PDF option generates very slowly till it eventually hangs at 50% and fails. What happened? What can I do to fix this? I just updated my Framemaker 20 to the latest version but I am still facing this issue. See image for more context
Hi All. I'm using FramemMaker 16 and publishing topics directly from Frame to Responsive HTML. This seems like a very basic question, but isn't really answered clearly in the Adobe help. Will DHTML Effects (Drop-Down Caption & Body) work when publishing directly from Frame to Responsive HTML? If so, what are the steps/settings to make this work - over and above what's stated in the help (apply the effect to the para). Thanks 🙂
In Framemaker 2020 (16.0.2.916), when I generate an HTML help CHM file and have a Map file (.h) in the book directory, the .h file is generated and it pulls the Map numbers from the file correctly, but the file name is set to the repeated book name (bookbook.h) instead of (book.h). If I don't have a map file in the directory, it creates the .h file with the correct name, but, of course, without the correct Map numbers from the now missing .h file. The same source files work fine in FM 2017 and in FM 2019, but not in FM 2020. I can't find any references to this in the forums. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Can I launch FrameMaker and a specified document with a Windows command line call? If so, what is the syntax? Thank you.
Hi,we have some documents where the existing structure is flawed (and no big help in the first place). Migrating to unstructured FM helps even out the problems, but by simply opening the documents in unstructured FM, all cross references are lost.Is there a way, perhaps by means of a tool, to replace all cross refs with normal unstructured cross refs before migrating? The target elements have unique IDs, so these could be used to create markers for the links. Robert
We are using FM2020 (Version: 16.0.1.817) for a large textbook...appx 800 pages split into 16 chapter files and a shared company Dropbox folder. Some files will kick us out while working in them and give the following error: An internal error occured while writing imported graphics in this document. The file has been saved, but has lost some image data. It keeps occuring. The graphics in the file are almost all PDFs and do not seem to have issues. We also tried saving files as .mif and then resaving as .fm. Even stranger is that when this error occurs the .fm file disappears from Dropbox completely...very scary. The .backup remains and another file with a weird extension which can be renamed with .fm and opens up but not sure that is the best thing to do in this scenario. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
We recently upgraded to FrameMaker 2019 and I am recieving the following error when trying to save the book as PDF Please Advise
I have what I believe to be a simple problem to fix. When I add a mini TOC to each chapter I need to add a blank page for my book to format corectly. The my first page is numbered 3. I need to change that so my first page of text is back to 1. Help.
Greetings,I'm using FrameMaker 16 (2020) with DITA 1.3.I need to number equations in the documents I'm working on. I found the equation-number element and I've followed the instructions available on the DITA 1.3 specification site and the FM Help (same content in both places). The difference is this: I'm including MathML equations, not images of equations (even though the MathML equations appear as graphics, they are tagged MathML).I have tried to both generate a number (which is my preference as tracking the numbers manually defeats the purpose of having the mobility of content provided by DITA) and assign a specific number.I've provided screenshots of the equation structure in FM, the output in PDF, and the attributes of an equation block.Any input to users with MathML experience would be most appreciated. Thanks,Wanda
Since upgrading to FrameMaker 2019, we have experienced issued when converting files with landscaped pages to PDF. When using the Save as PDF command, the content of the page is fine, but the header and footer text on the page is rotated and garbled. Printing to PDF solves this issues for single files. However, when we convert a book containing files with landscaped pages, it becomes problematic. Some books are too large to use the Print to PDF command, and replacing sections of the PDF rotates and moves the link boxes. Will a fix be coming for this issue? We did not have this problem with our last version of FrameMaker.
Sorry guys! I have links between PDF documents created in FrameMaker, and when I click on a link in the Source PDF, it links to the Destination PDF but the Source PDFs closes. I went to Edit > Preferences in Acrobat and unchecked the 'Open cross-document links in same window' checkbox, but the source PDF still closes. I guess I am missing something, again. Also, do both PDFs (Source and Destination PDF) have to be open to link from one document to the other? Is there a way for the Source PDF to open automatically when linked to Destinatnion PDF? I must be losing it.
FM2020 Delete function is very slow. Things I've tried... uninstalled - reinstalled, and cleared Auto-Spell Check in Preferences. I read something about images, but I don't have a problem w the same files (project and images) when I open the same project files in FM2017. Both versions are available to me, but installed in separate locations until we can fully migrate to FM2020. Appears to be a recent issue w FM2020. The lags are unproductive, almost unusable. I have a large project that requires significant edits, and at the snail pace of FM2020 is doesn't make sense to use this specific version. Any ideas to fix? Moving from Using the Community (which is about the forums) to the correct forum... ModTo ask in the forum for your program please start at https://community.adobe.com/
I am trying to update my front matter/TOC that also contains a List of Tables and a List of Figures. For some reason, the List of Figures chapter is not available in the Update Book dialog. If you look closely at the LOF chapter in the Book view below, you will see that TOC and LOT chapter icons are dark brown, while the LOF chapter it is a slightly lighter. Does the color difference indicate something is not configured properly in that LOF chapter? How do I fix this so it will update?
I have some content in text file. Is there a way to read text from .txt, line by line, and add that to its corresponding content in the .fm file? Thanks
I have been attempting to use custom templates in my FM16 version, however I have been experiencing a lot of different issues. I have noticed that this path "%appdata%\Adobe\FrameMaker\16" does not exist on my computer. Is this an issue that would have happened when FM16 was installed or can I manually add that file to the appdata location and have it work correctly?
I opened two books (US and Canada). When opening both books, I am also opening the individual section files (entire book). Canada has a correctly formatted TOC, and with the US manual I still have to generate the TOC, and then import the TOC formats from the Canadian manual TOC. I generated the TOC for the US book, and I clicked on the TOC for Canada. The Canadian TOC never opens from within the Canadian book file. The tab at the top says Canada TOC, but what I view is the US TOC in both the US and Canada TOC tabs. What I see when clicking on the Canada TOC tab is the newly generated US TOC file that is not formatted. Why would I not see the Canadian TOC when I open it (in its proper format), just like I did when I opened the Canadian manual by itself? I even tried to import that styles from the Canada TOC, but that didn't work either.
I have some content in text file. Is there a way to read text from .txt, line by line, and add that to its corresponding content in the .fm file? Thanks
I did not create this documentation originally, so I am not familiar with any buried setting(s) that may be causing this issue. Please refer to the image below and the description that follows. The top of the image shows the majority of the table and the bottom of the image shows the table continuation onto the next page. However, when the table continues onto the next page, the table caption gets pushed down to the beginning of the following page, even with plenty of room under the table. Not included in the image is the table anchor tag completely separating from the table and creating a new page to itself. I was able to fix the table anchor issue by setting the table to start a Top of Page, but I am lost on the other issue. If anyone knows why this formatting issue is occurring, please let me know! Thanks!
I have finally created two PDFs where one has links the open topics in another. However, when clicking the link in PDF A, it does hyperlink to the topic in PDF B, but PDF A then closes.
Hi, I am unable to produce a .chm from a .book file. I can make a .chm from each individual chapter (except the auto-created files, of course). I can create a .chm from other, similair, .book files. I recreated the .book file and added the existing files to it, but it still will not produce the .chm file. I can produce pdf and Responsive HTML5 files from the .book file In each case, I've used the same settings file and the same .css.I have looked at the log file that is produced, in each case, it says it compiled normally. I deleted the temp files, which produced no change.I am on 2019, 15.0.8.979. It seems to fail at the "Generating HTML Help system" step. I get an error: "An internal error has occurred. This program will now close.".Any suggestions?
I want my FrameMaker script to create log in the same .log file. Is there a way to do this in FrameMaker scripting?
After reviewing Barb's instructions for creating an LOEP, I’ve successfully produced a list-of-paragraphs that display the page number and it’s date (see snippets below). I have a couple of questions though, that I haven’t been able to answer online – maybe I’m not searching the right things. On an automatically generated list like this, can I format it to populate a table (in this instance with 2 columns: Page No and Effective Date)Is there a way to include the ChapterTitle of the page being listed (similar to how I have my Running footer)? I can add ‘ChapterTitle’ to the list of included paragraphs, but it only includes it once.Note on this: The number’s shown in ChapterTitle are just text and part of the paragraph – that works for aviation manuals where I have a *.fm file for each chapter, and they are specific numbers based on subject matter – not sequential.Ideally what I would like to display is: Page No…….Chapter Title……..Effective D
