FrameMaker

I realise this may not be solvable without a lot of digging that I probably don't have time for, but I just wanted to check here in case there are any relatively simple fixes I can try.In the past 2 days, FM has crashed approx 5 times, and every time, I have lost my recent changes and had to recreate them. I've just checked for updates and installed them in case that will help. It's generally happened when I've tried to selected a numbered list from the paragraph catalog, (possibly every time, but I'm not certain). I'm working in unstructured FM.When I restart the program, my backup files are behind the main versions so I can't use those to restore from.  I am saving frequently now, but is there anything else I can do?Thanks!

I have a shared topic that lists the cautions and warnings. Using the props attribute, I've set up a list of values for the writers to select from. In the edds, the value giving me trouble is:HGC HGEP HGEXO HGNHP OGC OGEP OGEXO OGNHPI've updated the templates with the edds.In the ditaval, the corresponding entry is:<prop att="props" val="HGC HGEP HGEXO HGNHP OGC OGEP OGEXO OGNHP" action="exclude"/>But, the rendering process (going to a PDF) does not filter out the content tagged this way. As far as I can tell, other combinations are filtering fine.Any suggestions?Wanda 

A number of years ago a very useful Adobe Blog post was made describing how to write regular expressions for FrameMaker's Find & Replace function.   I wanted to read that Friday because I wanted to try my hand at writing an expression, and it's gone. Dear friends, experts and gurus!Main purpose of my project FMfindRepl is saving the settings to an xml file and get them back later.It turns out that 'roung-tripping' empty edit-fields is not handled correctly. It even leads to blocked functions (Buttons will not work any more).Field "find what" is empty for various find operations, for example when searching for Anchored Frames. This is represented in the xml file as  <findstring></findstring>​ At the next start of FM with the script  things work as expected.As long as I do not save a new set of settings nothing strange happens and the next FM session is OK.Saving new settings of course recreates the xml file. And now the previously existing  <findstring></findstring>​ are saved to the file as  <findstring/>​ This is absolutely correct in the sense of XM, but ...... in the next FM session these empty elements create problems. Hi,Im using framemaker 16.0.1 version, while updating graphics in .cdr format it is appearing in grey color box in fm document as well as in pdf out. the same file was worked in the previous version after updating framemaker im get an error like this one.If anyone knows the solution please let me know thanks in advance 

FrameMaker2015 [window 7] has problemPicture 1 When I working for a while the message “Internal error 13054,21,92777,24246195,24228058. FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit.” is appear, can’t working and then the program closed by itself. Picture 2 When double click file the message “Adobe FrameMaker 2015 has  stopped working” is appear.I want to ask about the cause of both cases, and how to fix it. Anyone know what to do please answer.  Thank you very much.  

Heading 1 sometimes is initial caps and sometimes uppercase in PDF.  The Heading 1 designer page shows Uppercase selected. I do not see any overrides in the status bar at the bottom of the page.  

I guess I want it to wrap to the next line to keep the numbers aligned?  

I have Figure 14-1 and 14-2 listed in my LOF that are too long. The leader goes to the proper right side of the page.  I entered a soft return at the point I felt the the titles should break, but the first line indents to around .625", while the second line is the one that should indent about .5" but is left aligned.  There are no tabs present on the first line, the Pargraph Designer has no settings for First, Left, or Right, and the leader tab stop is set at 6.25".  Didn't have this issue with the TOC. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello,a customer wants me to use a template in FM12 (unstructured). Is it possible to use this template in FM latest version? And save it to FM12 (unstructured)? What do I need to do if not? Thanks a lot!

I have Format B tables. Some have a shaded heading and others do not. All use a paragraph tag named cellheader. How can I figure out why some are shaded and some are not?    

I want to keep each table on the same page instead of breaking across pages. How would that affect tables larger than a page?

Problem: Need a relatively convenient way to convert long, complex technical documents in Framemaker (2019)—multicolumn format with large numbers of equations, tables, and figures—to MS Word without having to spend hours manually postprocessing to make it readable/usable. XML/Structured Frame isn't an option for various technical/process reasons I won't go into. (Trust me, I would love to be able to do this.) Two Not-Really-Solutions I've Considered: Exporting from PDF results in a near-perfect copy in Word built entirely on sand (column breaks, section breaks, etc. to preserve appearance) that collapses as soon as you begin to add/remove/modify text or objects. Copying and pasting directly from Framemaker is somewhat better, but equations (using the Equation Builder) and figures are stripped from the output and requires serious postproduction, which for very complex documents is still prohibitively labor/time intensive. I've been banging my head against this wall f

I think that the solution might be a very simple one but I spent at least half an hour on this one with no result so I'm asking the experts. A certain document in my book has to have a chapter title in condition A and no title in condition B (The title for condition B is present on another document which won't be used in book A). First of all, I couldn't find a way to create a line with a title in it for one condition which gets removed for the other condition. Then I thought to create an empty line for the other condition (I was OK with an empty line on top of the page at that time). This causes very complex problems which I can't even describe. Right now I'm thinking of either creating a line with some empty spaces in it to be used as an anchor for the empty line or maybe utilizing tables just for the purpose of this simple task. Is there some other simple solution to this issue or am I missing something?

I'm recreating operating manuals that were originally created on Indesign. The figure, table, etc numbering method on Indesign was continuing the numbering across chapters. I haven't yet come to the point where I'm going to merge and continue all kinds of numbering styles (page, style etc) of the documents in FM. Recently I've started to think that maybe I should use a style numbering method of x.y (chapter + numbering specific to the chapter) instead of the current method used on Indesign (just x) which does continue all of these sets across the chapters. My manuals are not the longest ones circulating around. They have something like 8-10 chapters in total, around 100-150 pages and the total number of figures will be around 200, the tables will be around 40-50 and photos will be around 20-30. Is it worth forcing myself to a numbering style of x.y instead of just using a single continued numbering of x? What would be the benefits of using a 2-dimensional coordinate system on numbers?

After getting the TOC to appear correctly on one book yesterday, another book today is nesting the TOC incorrectly, even thought the exact same formats are being used.   I updated FM2020 software to current version yesterday to latest revision.     [image added by moderator - please use image icon in web interface instead of attachments]

I am using the latest version of FM on Windows 10. When I try to save a file it saves to a temporary file. I have turned OFF Auto save and turned OFF my virus protection (Zaspersky). The original file WAS a Word document imported into FM if that makes a difference.

I have defined many conditional tags on table title cells. I wasn't checking my pdf outputs because I'm still continuing on my documentation process but I recently had to print out one of the tables for some datasheet verification job. I did realize that table cells containing conditional tags are being converted to pdf with the visual checker patterns which do represent these tags. Is this some setting that I'm skipping at the PDF creation or is the practice of conditional tags in table cells something that I have to steer away from? The conditional tags on FM The pdf output of the same table

I have a table style that has a caution image already inserted whenever I use that style. However, exporting to HTML blows the table up. How can I remove the caution image from the table style? Or fix the HTML output? The image resides in the reference page BTW. First image is in Framemaker. Second image is in HTML help.  

I'm using FrameMaker 16 (2020) with DITA 1.3.I use a settings file with customized templates. Between 2 versions of the settings file, I've lost some formatting in my table titles and cross-reference links.My figures number correctly (figure numbers are <$chapnum>-<n+>) but the links indicate that the figures are in chapter 1. I defined the link using <$paranumonly> which used to work.My table title is defined the same way as the figure title and appears correctly in the documents but not the PDF output. In the PDF they appear with just the <n+> value.I've poked about in the definitions in various templates but I cannot change the output.Please help.I'm sure it's something simple that I'm just too tired to see.Wanda

I opened an existing book file today to update and print a new PDF. When the PDF was done, many of the imported artwork images were cut off at the top and bottom of the image. To check if my copy of FM was corrupted or settings were wrong, I had another person attempt creating the same PDF. His copy also cut the tops and bottoms of the images.These are functioned correctly a couple of months ago. Only a few editing changes were made to the book. I have even attempted creating a PDF of the single chapter file with the same cut-off results.Has anyone run into this or know of a solution?  We obviously can't send these to the customer.This is FM version 13.0.3.495.First image is screen shot of FM file. It appeared like this in the old PDF also (gray square is mine to cover company info). The second image shows the top and bottom cut off in the PDF. This is occurring in several files and books and on other people's computers, not just mine.Thanks.

In my FM file I have a paragraph style called Caution. It's defined as: When used in FM it looks like: But in the generated Responsive HTML5 it looks like: How can I get proper indentation in the HTML5 output? Row 2 and 3 should start just under "If".
