FrameMaker

Hello All,   I'm constantly getting these messages when I try to save my FM 2019 files. I've cleared the temporary folders and done a MIF wash.  This is a real PITA! Any other sugestions?   Thanks!       Sam  

I am trying to create my first script using the ExtendScript tool in order to publish my DITA bookmaps automatically (without the need to set the stuff in the UI).The script can successfully open the corresponding bookmap in FrameMaker 2020. However, the Publish variables such as the Settings Files, Output folder as well as the Ditaval file are not updated based on the script. Hi. I have problems with the triangle symbole in FrameMaker. It is ok in the FrameMaker file, but in the pdf file, it is just a line. I don`t know what the problem is.. Can anybody help? Linda    

I am new to Adobe ExtendScript, I would like to know how I can replace the tilde (~) with the absolute path of user's home directory? In my script, I need to find the absolute path of the script itself. To do this, I use: var scriptPath = File($.fileName).pathBut this gives me a tilde for the first part which is not recognized by the FrameMaker as user's home directory; therefore, I cannot use it to pinpoint where my files are located.

Is there a reason why animated .gifs don't work in FM or publish to pdf? & will they in the next version of Tech Comm suite?I'd like to use short explainer .gifs in FM (don't think silly video Facebook stuff, think sensible short explainer video, but lighter weight) and at the moment I'd need to export to .pdf and have the animation work, with control over auto-start or not (mostly not). It doesn't seem to be possible now as the 'gifs don't animate in FM or when converted to .pdf. But it seems such an obvious thing to want to do? Am I missing something?I really don't want to have to do manual changes in Acrobat for a 500 page document. Oh and Is it likely there'll be a new version of TechComm suite any time soon?

Does anybody know if the Publisher module is exposed to FM's Extendscript (or FDK)? I looked through all of the scripting info and the FDK info, .h and config files and couldn't find any references to it other than the TPUBforFMDoc (Book/DITA  esc ph shortcut) command. I need to kick off the Publish module after some manipulation and use a specified STS file depending upon the manipulation.

Hello all,I have at the end of a book chapter a paragraph tagged as head1 with manual overrides (*Head1).For some reason, I can neither apply a different paragraph tag, nor delete it.Added after initial posting: Not sure this has any impact, but this tag follows an imported text inset.Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated.Thanks, DonnaEnvironment: FM2015, version 13.0.5.547 on Windows 7 Pro.

The chapters in our manuals have alphanumerical, non-sequencial ID codes. The ID uses a different paragraph style to the chapter title (they have different formatting). Is there a way to show these in the Table of Content, e.g.A103-56 Process Management...........p. 17S87-03   Change Control....................p. 22 

Hi all,I am a newbie in S1000D and FrameMaker. I created a couple of data modules and using the method described in "Adobe FrameMaker Application Pack for S1000D" I tried to create a new project. However, after defining the new project and made the regarding changes in "S1000D options" and restarting the FrameMaker the "Common Source Data.." option below S1000D menu is disabled and when I open the S1000D option it opens in basic mode. According to the guide I mentioned earlier it happens when any of the required project files or folders are unavailable when FrameMaker starts. I am not sure what I am missing. I have a DML file, BREX file, ACT, PCT, CCT, and a couple of other type data modules (descriptive,...). I would really appreciate it if you guide me regarding this issue   

Outside FM, I've been using simple keydefs in ditamaps and bookmaps, then calling them with <keyword keyref="xnt"/> in topics: <keydef keys="xnt"> <topicmeta> <keywords> <keyword>XENTURION</keyword> </keywords> </topicmeta> </keydef> When I try to process the same files using FM, I get relatively comprehensible messages like[keyref] file:xag_menuXML.dita:18:45: [DOTJ047I][INFO] Unable to find key definition for key reference "xnt" in root scope.Question, then: how/where do I set up keydefs in the FM environment?Thanks in advance for advice and tips.

At first glance, this gives me the impression something needs to be udpated … but I'd welcome clear advice on what to update and how. FM 15.0.6.956, Windows 7.0 on corporate life support. Hi, I am using FrameMaker v12. I have about 40 odd documents related to a single project which I need to update just for three things: Version Number, Date, and Copyright Year. The vesion and date are treated as variables, the copyright year isn't. After editing these standard values across all 40 documents, I need to save all of them as PDFs. Is there any way I can automate this process? I am aware of extendscript and believe this can very well be achieved using that tool.

We have a FM document set up with all our Master and Reference Pages set up. We then import these layouts into our documents. We've recently started getting the following issue:Whenever we update the TOC, the master pages revert to some completely random layout.When we re-import the formats from our template, we get the following error:When we check the Master pages on the desitnation document, the master pages were imported correctly. Edit: We've tracked it down to strange behaviour related to an Object Style we use for inserted graphics. Not sure how that relates to mater page layouts, though. 

Does anyone know if Robohelp 2019 classic works with FrameMaker 2015 files? We have to use FrameMaker 2015 because that's what our Corporate Tech Pubs group uses, and that's what our templates require. Our Purchasing department just forced me to subscribe to the latest (2020) Robohelp subscription plan, which Adobe's salesperson said would still work with Rbohelp 2020. But it doesn't. The same salesperson also said Robohelp 2019 classic works with FrameMaker 2015 files. Do I believe him? No. Before I go back to Purchasing and try to get them to let me purchase Robohelp 2019, I'd like to ensure that the RH2019/FM2015 combination actually does work. Thank you for your help. Marcia

Hi,I have an error rising while using Hypertext feature in Framemaker 2020 trial version. It says that changes cannot be made as the file is a view only file.     The file is immediately getting locked when I click on the source link. FM, unstructured, 2019. Created a table on body page that has a header row that includes a block that needs to show the current page # & the total page # in a cell. Is there any way to add a variable on the text page that will show the current page number in the cell when additional pages are added to the file? Also the page numbers in that block do not relate to the page numbering that shows in the footer of the document set up on the master page.

Today the syntax diagrams in our documents are images. I was thinking if it would be possible to skip the images, and instead use the syntax/box drawings characters from Courier New font instead?Like: ┌─ keyword ─┬► The documentation is published as pdf, html5 and chm. Is the Couried New font pre-installed on all modern Windows/mac/Linux computers? Can this be done, or am I just wasting my time trying to do this?  

UPDATE: I figured out the issue. I had to apply the Master Page Usage to make the Header/footer show on the 1st page, and modify the height of the header area on the 2nd page. I have an issue where the header and footer of one page in my document is not displaying in the body page. In the master page, the header and footer appears to be correct, compared to other documents within the book that are not affected. This issue is only affecting the first page in one chapter, where no header or footer appears. The second page is missing 1 line of text from the header (the header contains 3 lines of text), but the footer is ok. The remaining pages in the chapter are ok, and all other chapters in the book are ok. I have tried importing formats, element definitions, and running a custom script that I have for my documents, and can't make the header/footer work on the page. I am using FM 2017. Any advice?  

Hoping of course to persuade some colleagues this is not the way to go, I'm checking the results of Save as .rtf. The snag so far is that even a single page with four lines of text is taking several minutes to save. Not a problem in itself, but I'm curious – have other people noticed the same thing? FM19, Windows 7.0 on corporate life-support …

I have a document for which I'd like to have independent autonumbering for chapter, sections, tables and figures.For example,  consider the following structure which the numbers for each are independent. More importantly, my EDD is based on docbook's markup, so it seems a bit different case than what is described here ). I've tried the "T:<n+>", "F:<n+>" suggestions but without success. 1. chapter   1.1 section         1.1 figure         1.2 figure         1.3 figure   1.2 section   1.3 section        1.1 table        1.4. figure        1.2 table   1.4 section It seems FM allows for only one counter per context level. Thus, the result for the example above is that the 2nd number is always be increasing by 1 instead. (e.g. "1.2 section" is numbered as  "1.5 section")Thanks.

Hello, I created a new document in Framemaker 2020 (file>new>document>portrait) (my old Frame 8 templates are not working despite the settings appearing to be correct - the text will not flow onto multiple pages). I only get a Right master page. I try to create a Left master page but the dialogue says this label is reserved... which makes sense... but how can I edit and use the Left master page!?

FrameMaker 2020 hangs when editing the Publishing menu for HTML5 output. Brand-new software. Brand-new computer. Same problem!This is the exact same issue that I had with the 2019 version when using the Publishing pod or menu. That error was overshadowed by the problem when trying to output any PDF. The work-around for that was resetting the ini file - suggested by Matt  - a real life-saver. I have done that about 20 times in the last year or so.Today, on a recently new computer, I have installed the new 2020 version of Tech Comm Suite. (I am familiar with the use of FrameMaker and the computer well and truly meets (and exceeds) all specs and system requirements. The 2019 version was working with no problems - so why did I upgrade?)The only thing different from all default settings is that I am trying to output to a folder other than C drive. I’ve been working in Frame updating a file for the last week and I was on page 90 out of 174 making changes and when I went to save it I got a dialogue box stating “The file has changed on the disk since you last opened or saved it (I just saved it 10 min prior). Someone else has probably modified the file. Do you want to save it anyway?”. When I click on okay to save it I get another dialogue box stating “An internal error occurred while writing imported graphics in this document. The file has been saved, but has lost some image data. Please report this error to Adobe Technical Support.”  The file will not save, I continually get the above dialogs everytime I try to save it. It saved it as FD7 File type and B50 File type, which neither can I open.

I am looking to have better control of the bookmarks in the PDF output from FrameMaker. In the document, I am working with once I save as PDF and I view said document in Acrobat the bookmarks appear with the paragraph tag, and the section tag what I would like to see is just the Section tag. i.e.What IS displayed: Module v2.2 (Body Pages) - Module 1 Dell 7920 BIOS Configuration and RAID Configuration What should be displayed:  Module: 1 Dell 7920 BIOS Configuration and RAID Configuration   This issue is accompanied by the lack of Appendix sections having bookmarks in the PDF. They have links in the TOC sections that function properly but there are not bookmarks that show in Acrobat for Appendices A-D attached are screenshots of how it looks now.       

My team is using FrameMaker 2019 (32-BIT). Our Framemaker is connected to a CMS (currently using VSS and we are not able to use the 64-bit version).  We can open files in FM, edit them, Save them and Close them (both .fm files and .book composites). But when we close FrameMaker, the app appears to close, but then we get a pop-up that says "Adobe FrameMaker 2019 has Stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please Close the program. -> Close the program".  This used to be intermittent but seems to be popping up whenever I open and close FrameMaker. We are using Version 15.0.5.838.  Is there a a solution for this?
