I generated the responsive HTML5 output from a DITA map. The output is not opening to the first file in the map, but to a file later. The first file is the introduction to the guide which I created from DITA topics and assembled into a map, as I've done many times before and never had a problem. I can't find a setting to tell it to open to a specific page. I'm using Adobe FrameMaker 2019, version 15.0.4.751.
I have a specific section of a book that needs to be paged using Roman Numeric style. I can only figure out how to do regular numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Using FM13
Hi,I create a a fm book using FM 10. I create a PDF for this fm book. When I copy the text from the PDF, the copied text is pasted without spaces. Can anyone help me solve this problem.RegardsParinita
I'm drawing a blank - how do I re-align a table to start at a 1 inch left indent. Thanks!
I am trying to create a context rule that basically says: If you are inserting a FigureTitle into a Figure that is located in PgblkDESC (Highest-level element), and it is the first FigureTitle in that document, use paragraph format Figure0. If it’s not the first FigureTitle in that document, use paragraph format FigureTitleCont. Attached is a clip of what I have currently that does not seem to be working. Anyone have any ideas why?
Hi, I have a question regarding the use of conref in DITA. I have created a simple DITA concept file, see attached for a snapshot of the structure view. In this file, I have few nested concepts with clear ids. Now, I would like to refer to the individual concepts of this file using conref. What I have in mind is something like text insets. For instance, I would like to pull only the concept "europe" into a different file. Using a ditamap, I was only able to pull the whole file into the ditamap. But this is not exactly what I have in mind as I would like to avoid breaking down my files into very small pieces. Hadi
Hi, I'm new to FrameMaker and going through the 3-hour course that Adobe offers. I have been unable to open the Object Properties dialog window however. I click on View, Toolbars, and then Object Properties, but it only gives me a tool bar, not the Object Properties box. Can anyone help? Thanks! Dave
I have multiple graphic images that are not being displayed after I publish to Responsive HTML. Use Distiller to create images is NOT checked. When it is checked, the document does not even get published and I have to force close the program. Any ideas?? Thank you. Jason
When I edit the Settings File, to publish a Responsive HTML5 project, the Paragraph and Character Styles list are NOT reflecting the actual Paragraph and Character Styles in my project. Any ideas why? I am trying to get the mapping and formatting to reflect the company template format. Since some styles are missing, I am unable to conform to company policy. Using FM 2017 and updated. Thank you.
I have a conref to content that includes a xref. This looks like it works ok until I save my ditamap as a book and look at the resulting fm file. At which point the nested xref has disappeared (the fm-xref element exists but only contains WHITESPACE as the visible text, the href property is still present but the link is broken). Is there a way to make this work? Thanks!
I need to change the name of the file that is being linked to by many cross references in a book. The name of the linked file has been changed, but the contents of the file are the same. Is there a way to make global changes to the path for cross references? There are far too many links to redo them individually.
When I import a picture in a frame and overlay it with graphics like an arrow or box using FrameMakers builtin tools, the function "Fit to frame proportionally" stops working. This may be by design, but it is annoying, when you want to update a book with lots of pictures. If anybody knows how to make it work, do please tell.
Hi Community, (using FrameMaker 2019) I would like some help in formatting a particular style of background for a WARNING and CAUTION . I have created a style which I set up in the paragraph designer and saved in the catalog that works well, thats no problem. I used the 'Numbering' tab in the designer to automatically put in the 'WARNING' at the paragraph begining. BUT, the detail I can't get is the bold line around the background, like in the sample attached. I've set up the background using a Pgf.Box with the right color but I really need that bold border. Anyone have any ideas if or how I can achieve this? Thank you. Mark. Warning & Caution Sample: My Warning & Caution background so far:
Hello. I use Framemaker 2019 to write user manuals for work. Since I use a large amount of photos and other images, I would love to use the "Fit to frame" option when I import something into an anchored frame. Unfortunately it only works until I close the document. As I import them and fit them, the picture looks good. But when I open the document a second time (after saving it and closing it), all the images have returned to their original import size (usually 300 DPI), forcing me to resize them all manually. What am I doing wrong? Why do they all get small again? This only happens with the "fit to frame" option, not with manual resizing.
Hello, I have a DITA based structure application in FM. Currently dealing with xml topic based files. In my topic .template.fm I have successfully added page style (landscape/etc.) based on XML attribute (you know the trick with the reference page rule to point to a landscape master page and it works). Now I want to do something similar but with other xml elements. Let's say I want a paragraph to have 2 different font style based on an xml attribute = font-1/font-2. How do I set these styles from the template file so when I load the xml the styles are applied in the editor view? (I really want to stay and be DITA compatible, so don't want to update edd.dtd files. Why can't this be done from the template?)
I recently updated from Frameaker 12 to Framemaker 2017. I've noticed several issues, but one of the most annoying occurs when I import Paragraph formats from one file to another. The Next Paragraph Tag setting never imports. I've also noticed that, if I set the Nest Paragraph Tag for a format and apply the setting after import, the setting somehow gets cleared after a few uses, and needs to be reset again. Is there something else I need to be doing when importing paragraph formats? Could this be a bug?
I recently had to create a new document that had a large number of cross-references (about 800). I have not had a lot of experience in the past using cross-references in FrameMaker, so I was rather amazed that some simple user interface features are not present.1. Give options for sorting/filtering cross-reference markers. To make my life easier (I thought) I made a bunch of cross-reference markers, as the source information was organized sequentially. When I went to use those markers, however, I found that instead of the markers being listed alphabetically (as I assumed they would), they were listed by page number. This made it incredibly difficult and time consuming to find the markers that I needed for my cross-references.2. Allow individual cross-references to be updated. This is a big one. The first time I updated the cross-references in my document (using Edit > Update References) it took ages. I only needed to update one cross-reference. An option in the cross-refer
I'm using FM11, but have seen this in earlier versions as well. I am updating old files created years ago, and some import links are broken.FrameMaker tells you the name of the missing file, and then just fragments of the actual file path, which is not very helpful:Is there any way to get the full path to show up?
I am looking for any input as to where i can get training on EDD and Conversion Table. Would prefer online or maybe videos i can follow. Thanks much, Sam
Hello, In Framemaker 2019, I have been publishing in HTML5 a book comprised of around 50 images that are referenced on a local drive. The average publishing time for a book this size takes around 30 minutes. Has anyone else in the community seen similar publishing time lengths? Is there anyway for me to optimize how long it takes? Thank you
I am having issues when i structure documents with my conversion table. I have text insets that i use the conversion table i created and it structures the text insets perfectly. I then structure the chapter and it all seems great until i import the text inset into the chapter. It gives me red errors on just the bulleted list and numbered list. Its fine in the text inset but when insert to the chapter it breaks the bullets and numbered list. Is anyone having issues like this or can someone tell me what i am doing wrong. Sam

Hi,I recently had the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2017 installed on my work computer. I am using a Windows 7 machine. When I open FrameMaker, my welcome screen is shown below. I believe it should look different. Are there any settings I can change to have the welcome screen appear as it should?Thank you!
I am importing images in a PDF format by reference (Esc+fii) into my FrameMaker documents. On the initial import, everything is fine, but as soon as I wrap the anchored frame around the graphic, a faint line shows up at the bottom of the frame. If it were only visible in Farme I could tolerate it, but it also shows up in the PDF output when I publish, where it is unnecessary, distracting, and just plain wrong. There's no object style applied to the anchored frame. Editing to insert: This also happens when inserting PNG images by pasting, so it's not specific to either importing by reference or to PDF graphics. I've tried changing different properties for the anchored frame, and so far nothing works. I tried changing the Stroke Line width to 0, but the line stays (and the width changes to 0.015 on its own). I've tried changing the Pen Pattern to one of the ones that appears to be blank, but the line stays. How do I get rid of this line? Why is it even showing up?&nb
I am putting together a script to align numbers in a table by decimal/assumed decimals. (I think all of the parts I’ve found here on the forum – what a great resource!)FrameMaker aligns like this:We'd like it to align like this:My script adds “.0” and changes the character style to white. (I got help with that part last week but the post got lost in the Adobe forum conversion.) That part works, but I can’t get it to do more than one cell. We can't run it on all tables in the document, or even a whole table. It will need to be by column. Right now, I'm thinking to put the cursor in the top cell of the column, then run the script. Here’s what I have.#target framemaker var doc, pgf, cell, regex; //given the cell containing the insertion point doc = app.ActiveDoc; pgf = doc.TextSelection.beg.obj; cell = pgf.InTextObj; regex = /\./; // this finds a decimal // ...navigate down the column. while (cell.ObjectValid () === 1) { //I think this is where it breaks down processD
