FrameMaker

Hi All,We are currently switching from Unstructured to Structured Framemaker. I am using both Adobe Framemaker 7.1 and FM10. I am using the structured tools in the FM7.1 where we need to create a separate application for each XML file with its own DTD, Template etc.,. I created around 25 xml files and created a book with all the XML files in FM10.Each XML file has their own template i.e. an FM file(ex. Title page.fm). I have set the numbering in the differently in each template. For example: Section 1 - Page 1001       Section 2 - Page 2001       Section 3 - Page 3001When I print these sections individually there is no problem in page numbering. But when I combine it into a book and print the whole as a book page nos are changed.For example: Section 1 - Page 1       Section 2 - Page 1       Section 3 - Page 1Can anyone suggest any solution for this?. Greetings,I've recently started using Dropbox and I've noticed that every one of my autosave files when using FM gets saved and stored in Dropbox. None of them get deleted. A document I just finished working now has 31 autosave files stored in Dropbox. I know I could turn off the autosave feature in FM, but it is really handy in the rare instances that I forget to save myself. Is there any other resolution? It seems FM and Dropbox are not playing together well in this area. Also, the autosave files that FM creates do not fall within the standard scheme of file names that Dropbox automatically ignores.Any solutions or ideas would be welcome!Adam

I am completely new to structured authoring and trying to evaluate FM with regards to how it can help me with xml authoring that will be based on a given xml schema. As a starting point, I am trying to create an xdocbook sample as a single xml file (with <book> as the top element) having a very basic structure(a basic bookinfo, preface and some chapters with sections).When trying to use the template provided by FM (File--> New Document--> XML_Templates--> xDocBook.xml) I cannot create a working sample since I keep getting internal errors and the application crashes. I have updated FM to Version 14.0.4.511 (please note that I am using a trial FM version) but the only difference is with the error codes returned. It seems that the crashes occur when FM tries to convert (for some reason) the xml to the equivalent FM counterparts.Is there a working sample or even better a tutorial available that could help me in this situation?Thank you very much in advance.

I am using unstructured FrameMaker 15 on Windows 10. I am getting this error. I tried opening all the documents in the book and saving them. I tried unchecking "Remember Missing Font Names" in Preferences and unchecking the "File contains unavailable fonts" alert in Preferences.

Dear,With FrameMaker 12 we are preparing on line documentation.When we import an image (example FM_Before; dimension 650x175; Bit depth = 24) then in the Imported Graphics Scaling screen, we have to select a dpi setting.Whatever value that is selected, the HTML5 generated has always a low quality (with 300 dpi > 223x71; Bit depth = 24 or with 72 dpi > 882x249;  Bit depth = 24).Is there a possibility to keep the original quality & sharpness in the output.Beforein HTML folder 300 dpiIn HTML folder at 72 dpi

Good day everyone. My company uses unstructured FM 11. A co-worker of mine is unable to right click and copy table cells. He can highlight text in the cell, and right click and copy. But when he selects the entire cell, and right clicks, the option to copy is greyed out. The keyboard commands of Ctrl C and V work fine. It happens in all FM file he opens. However, when he swaps to Structured FM, the option returns. I have opened the same files, and everything works fine for me in both unstructured and structured. Has anyone encountered such an issue?

We use a custom font to insert UI icons into our Frame source files. When I use "Save as PDF" to create the PDF output files, the icons do not show. I see blank spaces where the icons should be. Creating PDF documents from Frame with the Adobe PDF printer and Distiller worked fine before Windows 10/1803.Environment:-MS Windows 10, v1803-Frame 2017-Custom truetype font for icons (.ttf)-Embed all fonts-Use document fonts-Custom font shows in the Font Pod properlyI tried explicitly embedding the font. That had no effect. Subsetting the font did not help either. Adobe PDF/Distiller approach broke with Windows 10/1803. I am looking for a way to get my icons to show in the PDF file without rolling my system back to Windows 1709 (or is that 1708?). Everything is fine in Frame. Just the conversion to PDF is missing my icons. As usual--deadlines loom....

Hi,I have an unordered list which now has underlines. I have tried everything I can think of to remove the underlines from the list, but that has not happened.  The only other option I can think of is to try and recreate the list, but unless I can remove the underline from the font setting, it probably won't help. How can I clear the underline check box from the List Paragraph style in the Paragraph Designer? Thanks for any help.Cheers,Elizabeth

I would have posted this as a comment in the Frame 2017 cannot print to PDF or PS or Printer as of April 6, 2018 thread if it was not locked.I am running Windows 10 Version 1709 OS Build 16299.579.Any attempt to create a PDF with “Convert CMYK Colors to RGB” selected, results in PostScript error: “Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: findfont; Stack: /Font (Courier) /courier” Clearing the “Convert CMYK Colors to RGB” check box results in a PDF, but with unacceptable color shifts (described as “very washed out” by posters in the other thread).I cannot install the fix released by Microsoft on July 24—KB4340917 (OS Build 17134.191—because my company restricts updates via WSUS. I tried downloading and installing the standalone package but got: “The update is not applicable to your computer.” Not surprising because I’m not on Windows 10 version 1803. Hello,I'm using FullShot 9 to capture screens/windows within a software program, saving my captures as JPEGs, and then copying them into anchored frames in FM 12. When I save my FM file as a PDF, the images aren't clear until I zoom to 150%. I've tried changing the "PDF Job Options" under the PDF Setup Settings to both Press Quality and High Quality Print.The images are still legible at 100%, but they make me feel like I'm not wearing my glasses. My team says they're good to go as-is, but I'd like to learn how to make them better if I can. They'll ultimately be appearing both in print and online.If there are any workarounds that would make these full-window screen shots stay sharp even at 4x6", please send them my way!Best wishes,Cameo

Hi Team, We are planning to migrate Frame maker from Windows server 2003 to Windows server 2008. Current Setup in Windows 2003:  Frame maker 8  Frame script 5 We would like to know the Fm and Frame script compatible version with Windows server 2008. If we are migrating to another version of Fm whether all the templates in Fm 8 will be supported in new Fm version.We understood that the latest version of Fm is Frame maker 2017. Does anyone out there in FrameMaker Land know of templates for the standard AF tech orders based on MIL-STD 38784? We are a small shop of 3 writers trying to establish a stable writing platform and Arbortext has been a monster to try to set up - so we are now looking at FM. Any suggestions as to setting up a small TO writing/managment system using FM?

Although this used to work in the past, I am no longer able to save a book as PDF.I have tried with a simple test book with a single one page file.When I ask to save as PDF, Framemaker seems to work but then nothing happen : no error, no file created.When I ask to print using Adobe PDF printer, I get an error saying : « Impossible to print because default printer not compatible with Framemaker (Cannot qurey command escape 768) » (this is a translation from the French error message).However, I may ask to print to « Microsoft print to PDF » printer. It works.I have Acrobat Pro DC version 2018 installed. But it seems Distiller is never used.Any idea that may help ?Thanks a lot.

I have full licensed version of Adobe FrameMaker. I am unable to safe any files as a PDF. How do I correct this?

I cannot print my fm files. The error message is "Cannot print because the selected default printer is not compatible with Frame Makern (cannot query escape 768)". I use FrameMaker 2015 and Windows 10. It has worked before with the present printer.

I used to have a window next to variabless and conditional tags at the bottom of the FM window which would list cross-ref and unresolved cross-ref with page number etc and was different from the cross-ref pod used to insert cross-refs and edit their format, but I can not find it how can I get it back?jusn

My IT department had to install FrameMaker 10 on a virtual machine for me, but they used the version from our Montreal office, which has the French language interface. How can it be switched to the English version? There doesn't appear to be any way of doing it though the GUI as far as I can tell. Do they have to uninstall and reinstall it? Or can they just rerun the installer and switch it?ThanksKeith

Another question: In unstructured FM, can marker symbols (text symbols) be customized and without having to use a Character style or a condition to assist with its visibility? For example, say I want to use the Comment marker in a particular way on a section heading, but the heading also has an Index maker symbol and a bunch of other markers. All the marker symbols look the same unless you apply a character tag to them, but for time management reasons, I want to avoid that step - I just want to be able to insert a marker that would automatically look different depending on the type that I select (for example, I was imagining that the ability to customize markers might be the same way that you can already customize Conditional Text markers [Edit Condition Tag], so why not marker tags?). If a section heading has a bunch of markers on it, it's difficult to visually distinguish them from one another and hypothetically, I don't have time to then select the marker to then apply a character t

Since a major update to Windows 10, installed April 6 2018, I cannot generate a PDF. Nothing happens. When trying to output to PS of send to a printer, I get the error dialog - Cannot print because the selected default printer is not compatible with FrameMaker. (Cannot query escape 768.) I have Creative Cloud tools as well, in particular Acrobat DC. Running Windows 10, Version 1803, OS Build 17133.1
