Hello Guys,(I had earlier posted this in InDesign forum as well. I need to account for inputs from Adobe FrameMaker community to get it right.)I am trying to get the sense of how do people work with Sidenotes in their documents and need help from the community. Brand-spanking new version of FrameMaker 2017 installed, and on brand-new computer.OK, technically, 13-inch 2017 core i5 MacBook Pro w/ 16GB RAM, 256GB HDD, running macOS High Sierra, Parallels, Windows 10 Pro, and demo version of FM (to test, plan to subscribe). I increased the amount of memory available to Windows in the VM from the default 2GB to 6GB.In a way, this turns out to be an extension of the "crash when printing to PDF question" I asked awhile back. I have 2 books that I inherited. Both have "missing font" issues, but at present, the substitution being made is simply a minor variant of he original and doesn't change anything significant, so I've ignored it. (Even though I save both files and books, the substitution never actually gets saved and I get the message every single time. Annoying.)When I try to do anything at a book level with either of these books, FrameMaker crashes. That includes printing, updating tables, and searching (so far).So I did a little test. I create

After updating Windows 10 (version 1083 6/5/18) when I print to FrameMaker I get the following error:Cannot print because selected default printer is not compatible with Frame Maker (cannot query escape 768). I was also not able to Save as PDF but I read in an older post to set the job options to CMYK and that works.  So I have to make a PDF to print from FameMaker 11.

Many of my equations are coming out this way.They look perfect in the document and when saved as PDF.  I am using MathFlow.  Anything I can do to fix this or ?

I've just started looking at FrameMaker XML Author as an editor for DITA. The font used in Author View is very hard to read as it's very light and thin. Is there a way to change the font to Arial or another sans serif font. You can change the font of XML View, but not Author View. ! I've tried zooming in but it hasn't helped. Here is a small sample of what it looks like at 100% zoom.

I am getting question marks for some characters in my HTML 5 output.  Some of the characters are ≤ and β. These characters are supported in HTML 5.  Is there there some reason that they are not converting or being represented correctly in HTML5 output?

Hello,since the ADOBE Support in India is not able to help on this, I hope to get help here:I have set up my structured FM documents to use Dita1.3 templates (only edited the already existing templates in the ...Structure/xml/... folder) which works as expected for .pdf-output. All is nicely generated as specified in the template.However when publishing the HTML5-output, these element and font settings are all ingored and only a distinction between bold and normal is visible.With FM2015 this worked without a problem with the normal Webhelp option.Can someone help and say if I am missing to import the settings into any output template?I am stuck with this issue since weeks and cannot find the fix.Cheers.

Is it possible to insert a variable in mailto functionality?

I have just installed FrameMaker 2017. It will allow me to open or create a book file, but as soon as I try to open an existing FM file, or create a new one, it freezes. In the case of an existing file, it reads the file enough to tell me there are unresolved cross-references in it, but freezes before it can display the file at all (white screen). I have to shut down the application manually, so I never get a log file. I found out (by accident) that it does actually open the file if I give it enough time: I timed it to 2 minutes 28 seconds.I'm running FM on Windows 10, but my Documents folder setting is good in the registry (saw this as a solution on other forum posts).Also, not sure if this is relevant, but it's also really annoying: I can't switch out of structured framemaker view. So, in the Preferences dialog, I switch to basic view and it tells me to shut down FM for the changes to take effect. I have created a template that uses the font Garamond. Every time I generate a document with this template, Framemaker 2017 uses the Font Adobe Garamond Pro instead of Garamond. However, I need my documents to use Garamond. How can I prevent this automatic font replacement?

Hey gang,I have a document with a multi-page table that needs to be inserted as a change page. The table starts at Sheet 4 and runs through Sheet 9. Is there a way to edit the <$tblsheetnum>variable to start at 4 rather than 1, or do I have to insert a text block with an autonumber style in the caption?Can any of you hoopy froods help a brother out?Thanks in advance,-terry-

Hi,I was able to generate PDF files a few months ago from FM 2017. However, after Adobe CC updates (it claimed that my enterprise license was not valid and forcing me to uninstall and reinstall). I could see Adobe DC Pro in my computerWhen I save as PDF, FM goes to busy for awhile but nothing happens after that. Is there a log that I could for error messages?

Ok Hi at first.I made myself a script that copies a selected document in a book to the save of the book and replaces the old one in the book with the copy. So i don´t change the Standard.Most of my dokuments have a lot of text insets in it.And here is the problem. Unfortunatly when the document gets copied it changes the text insets sources to a different location near the new save.Is there any way to tell the inset that the source is fix and not depending on the save location of the dokument?Thanks for your help.PS maybe i could change the script so that it doesnt copy the file but opens and saves it in the new location. Maybe this works.

Hello all,Scenario:Existing manual that needs many changes.Source provided will be copied from a Word document into existing FM files.The word document has paragraphs that are in Times New Roman.  The FM files are in Arial.What I've been doing up to this point, is copying a paragraph at a time from the Word document into the FM file, then changing the font for the paragraph.Question - is there a more efficient way?Many thanks in advance.Ben

Hello,I am facing a strange issue while converting Ditamap file to Book file.I have created a Ditamap file as shown in the following screen:One particular XML file (highlighted XML file in the screenshot)which is used as chapter's main page, when converted to Book, is not getting converted to a folder. Except for this file, all other XML files are fine as shown in the following screen. All the other XML files which are used as main chapter pages are getting converted to folders. Because of this group formation (Group 1 in the above screenshot), the whole hierarchy and the chapter and topic numberings are getting affected. I am using the option Save Ditamap as Book 2017 with components while converting Ditamap to book. Right now, I am using a workaround where I am deleting this group, inserting a new folder, linking the appropriate FM file to the folder to get the hierarchy right. Yes, this is a cumbersome and annoying process as I have to follow this cycle in each product release.I don

I have four books (Volumes 1-4) which contain cross-references (e.g. Volume 1 contains cross-references to Volume 2 Section 11). I am testing a master book containing the four book and seeing if the cross-references will remained hyperlinked but I won't know the result until tomorrow morning (each volume is almost 1000 pages containing hundreds of graphics) but I suspect the hyperlinks will remain intact. What is desired is that each Volume is a stand-alone file contained in the same folder. Is there a way to either generate a single PDF file of each volume when structured into a book? I did try the generate as individual files check box and what that did was generate each file inside each book as a stand-alone PDF which is not desired and did not complete the process. The other thought is maybe I shouldn't be using cross-references. I can control: folder name the PDFs are located in and file names. Is there a way maybe I can "name" a spot in the text and then generate a URL? That migh
