FrameMaker

I have a Table of Contents and need to be able to set the included paragraph format tags for it using a script.If I set the tags manually using the Set Up Table of Contents option, update the book and print Class BookComponent's ExtractTags property (BookComponent.ExtractTags) it shows the list of tags but I cant modify this property. Is there any way to do this?

Hi All,I'm fairly new to DITA but I'm getting along very well.When I publish my DITA content to a WebHelp/HTML5 output in FrameMaker 2015, the complete structure of my ditamap gets lost and goes wild in the webhelp index.It works well saving the content as PDF.I know that FM2015 converts the .xml content to a FM file. So here's my question:What can I do to fix the structure chaos in the WebHelp index without having to work on it in RoboHelp?I'd rather have the structure as it is in my DITAMAP taken over into the WebHelp index right away without touching it again.FrameMaker 2015 crashes a lot when publishing, even using the latest Update/Patch ... any ideas anyone?Thanks for your help

I've imported a table into FM. The problem is that it doesn't respond to changes I'm making in the table designer. Specifically, it's not responding to changes to the alternative row shading and no shading.

I've created formats for the catalog before, but how do I create a format that has the underlines and/or overlines associated?

i set up a table (3 col *2 row), and in table cell (3rd col*2nd row), insert a ordered list (4 items), while in other table cells, one line text as usual.Now, i get a error message: empty content not valid for content mode '(entry)+'.so, what the problem is, and how can i fix it?thanks a lots!

How do I create a watermark in Frame 17 that will show over tables and graphics? I know how to create one on the master page (and rotate it) as background text for headers and footers, which shows great for just plain text, but I need it to show over photos, drawings, and tables.I prefer to put watermarks in Framemaker before I PDF the doc because the watermark can't be removed compared to if I put it Acrobat. (I assume that last statement still is correct--other than locking down the PDF, which I don't want to do?)

I'm trying to publish a series of short documents through the responsive html5 setting in the publishing pod.When I test the output the default stretches the content across the entire width of the screen when viewed on a computer, which looks horrible and is tough reading.Is there any setting where the default would scale to content so that when the window first opened the default layout have the aspect ratio of the original framemaker document, or the printed page.

Hi;I just started working with Framemaker scripting this afternoon and using sample scripts here I've got the main skeleton of my program complete. I know that a similar script was posted here years ago to move markers to the start of words, but the script appears to have vanished and the one I'm working on needs to move the markers to the beginning of the paragraph that they're currently residing in (it help translation immensely).So far my program opens a book and, one chapter at at time, finds all of the Index markers. I am using the Publish function to turn a book into an MS Help file (.chm). When it hits one chapter, I get a "Failed Importing Documents" message and it stops. If I exclude that chapter, it publishes the rest of the book.Clearly I need to look for something that makes that chapter different from all the others. Where should I start looking?I've already copied and pasted the same format to all chapters.

Trying to move my Framemaker License from my old laptop to my newDesktop. When i put in the SN, the startup script accepts the SN and loaded theSW. When I try to run Framemaker, it tells me that the "License for thisproduct has expired".

HiSorry this is a bit of a long question.I maintain a library of XML documentation using a variety of editing tools. Some years ago I set up a structured application in FrameMaker v8 to allow editing of our documents but it wasn't that great. We do still occasionally use it when we need to do major surgery to some documents but it isn't our first choice for most jobs. However I've been asked to have another look at the latest Frame version to see if things have improved. Before I start the free trial I just have a few queries which I hope will get me over the line a bit faster and help me avoid any traps that might catch out somebody still thinking in v8 terms.1. Is structured Frame still reliant on importing a DTD into an EDD or can it use XML schemas now?2. One of the problems we have with Frame v8 is that it can only run XSL v1 stylesheets on open/save. We had a couple of transforms that needed XSL 2.0 functionality so we had to introduce a manual step on every save. Can the latest

I have a 4-column template that I am working in; the text runs off the bottom of the last column, but does not start a new page or run to the next page.  It disappears into the footer, although I know it's still there.  There is a second page below it with the same 4-column format.  I can see the text "Modulation Type" continuing below the footer before the rest disappears.  I tried placing the cursor at the end of the paragraph and selecting "Top of Page", and also tried Special->Page Break and selecting the "At Top of Next Available" option, but nothing has worked.  I'm sure I don't have something set up correctly.  The image below is displays the bottom of the 4th column of the first sheet.  The text scribbled out is just sensitive information in the footer:

I have also tried this in FrameMaker 8. But the results were same. I am creating screen shots in Photoshop CS3 and place them into framemaker using Anchored frames. But the border are not applying. In object properties it has been set to 1.0 pt. After producing pdf image looks hanging with no borders. To rectify this I tried manually adding borders to the graphics file (1px) but after importing and producing PDF the border looks uneven. More thicker on left and top borders. Please suggest resolution. Thanks in advance I am using GIF,TIF,PNG changing file format doesnt help

How do I get my custom master pages to display in the the Master Page Usage dialog?

Using the frameMaker 2017 version, we get xml files from other departments, but since upgrading from Fm10, the straight quotes are giving problems.As shown, the quote sits on top of the letter c. We can change them manually, using the typographical quotes, but that cannot be the solution.I've been looking around in the help file, but I didn't find an answer.Someone on the forum who has any suggestions?

I have a couple of appendices that use conrefs. These appear correctly when I open the doc in Frame, but some of them (not all, it is inconsistent) do not appear in the generated PDF file.Is anyone else seeing this with recent versions? Is there a known issue, here?I saw a similar thread thread here, but that was from 2010. It involved Frame 8 and tables. I am using Frame 2017 and the format is just <ul> items in body text.Any advice will be appreciated.–Randy Clark

I have Windows 7, and have been using FrameMaker 2015 as part of the Technical Communication Suite. It is the only application in the suite that I have installed. Suddenly, it will no longer launch and give a message "Unexpectedly Quit".I tried reinstally. No luck.Then I tried uninstalling before reinstalling. No luck.Then I tried uninstalling, reinstalling and restarting. Now the program starts okay.But after I downloaded and installed the update for 2015, FrameMaker again stopped working.After another uninstall/reinstall, it is working, but without the update.Is there a fix for this so that I can run it with the update installed?

I have a book that I am trying to generate Responsive HTML5 output. FM15 crashes every single time no matter what file I use as the source. My book is less than 300 pages and I tried it with a smaller (75 page doc) and it crashes. In fact, generating any output through Publish crashes FM every time.I have a fresh install with all the updates added to it. But everytime I use the Publish feature, FM crashes.Any thoughts?

I bought my adobe frame maker 10 some years ago CD-installation. I have just recieved a new computer and I need to install my frame maker 10 again. My installtion seem to be complete. But when I try to open the file I need to edit - this message appear. Why cant I install my FM 10?Ann

I have a huge unstructured FM document, which contains a lot of Index markers. These markers exist in different chapters (files) of a book. I've created a variable, which is already applied and used in "body" of all files. However, I cannot find solution of adding such variable to Index markers. Every time I come back to the FrameMaker Developer Center page, I find it frustrating that it is not a link on the main FrameMaker 2017 page Adobe FrameMaker (2017 release)-For XML/DITA Authoring & Publishing.  Instead you have to find your way to the FrameMaker Help resources page which you get to from Adobe FrameMaker Learn & Support.  I know you can bookmark the page and it is a simple URL to remember, but why make it so obscure?

Are there any known problems (with updates, please!) regarding creating a PDF from Framemaker 12 book file on Windows 10? None of the files in the book will save as a PDF -- no error messages; just nothing happens. I was able to create a PDF from a new document (not in the book) with no problem, but when I try Save As PDF to any files in the book, it creates a 0 bytes pdf file.  Has anybody else seen this and/or have a solution? I had a chat session going, and then Chrome kicked me off. . .

Looking for advice/resources/suggestions on how a guy would go about producing an interactive encyclopedia or technical manual ap from framemaker files for all devices.I'm imagining an interactive interface that would organize the sections graphically rather than your standard layout.  For example, for a repair manual all the sections could be organized or housed within a graphic image of the product that would allow the user to touch/click on some part of that product and up would come that section of the manual.Years ago I had done something along this line in Flash, but this strictly for laptop and not all that robust.  Was no where near the volume of material that I'd be looking at now.Was thinking about doing the same thing in Adobe Animate, which is basically HTML5 Flash, loading up Html files produced by Framemaker whenever anyone clicks on them, but wasn't sure if this was the right product for the job.Is there another approach I should be looking at?
