I am using Frame Maker 8 and I am trying to import PDF files into a FM document. So far, the only way that it works is to Use File --> Import ---> File and then select the PDF document and the page. Then, I need to manually re-size each page to fit the Frame document. The problem with this method is that I have hundreds of pages of PDF documents to import into the Frame file and it will take forever doing each page one at a time. Is there a way to import a multiple-page PDF document all at once?
Using FrameMaker 15 with Windows 7, why does FrameMaker lock up when trying to Publish? I can select the format I want, but when I try to change settings, and select Style Mapping, it closes my Publishing options and then nothing happens. If I bypass the setting options and select Generate Selected Output, it creates a file in the location I indicated, but it won't let me view the output file. Nothing really seems to be working for me.
Good Morning, Everyone,I'm experiencing a little trouble trying to come up with a solution for a small conditional logo that must be placed in the headers for half of my printed manuals. For specific products that my company sells, certain emission standards must be met. These are represented by a mandated logo that must appear on each page of printed manuals. That brings me to the current challenge. I can't use anchored frames (which can be conditionalized) in headers and footers. Does anyone know of a work-around that might work?Thanks!-Leanna
I have two different para styles that show up in different section titles depending on the length of the text. I can't change the length of the text, because the titles are existing and the FDA doesn't like it when you just go changing things willy nilly. So on the reference page the line reads like this:Section <$volnum> – <$paratext[SectionTitle]><$paratext[SectionTitle 2-Line]>However, in the TOC the SectionTitle is showing up twice and the SectionTitle 2-Line not at all. This tactic does work in the chapter headers. But I have a sinking feeling it is that pesky little space before the 2.Can I replace it with a %20 or something Windows-y like that to make it work?? (Please say yes. Please say yes.)Happy Monday everyone.
Not sure if this was a problem in recent versions or not (haven't adjusted tab stops in a while).I have a paragraph format with:- First = 0.25"- Left - 0.5"- Tab stop = 0.375" LI wanted to change the tab stop to 0.5" L, went into Paragraph Designer, edited tab stops, changed the value, clicked Continue.Paragraph Designer reappeared, tab stop value appeared as 0.5" L for a moment, then reverted to 0.375".Any idea why this is happening and/or how to go about fixing it?Thanks.
Greetings!I am working on an XML application that uses the same element <graphic> for inline elements (for example icons in a paragraph) and general figures.I have two object styles:inline: sets the "anchor position" to "insertion point"figure: sets the "anchor position" to "Below current line"(I apologize if my property names are off; I'm actually using FrameMaker in Japanese, so I don't have the correct English names.)I want to have a context rule where, if the <graphic> element is a child of <para>, it's assigned the "inline" style. If it's a child of <figure>, it's assigned the "figure" style. My current EDD looks like the following:Initial graphic element format1. If context is:para Insert imported graphic file.Anchored Frame Object Style:inlineElse Insert imported graphic file.Anchored Frame Object Style:figureHowever, when I import my XML into FrameMaker, only the "else" clause takes; all <graphic> elements have an object sty
Hi, I am new to Extendscript and Framemaker. I am trying to cycle through a book and find which paragraphs are/contain anchored frames. If they contain an anchored frame, I want to be able to select the paragraph and apply/remove conditional tags on the paragraph. This is what I have so far://code to Show All conditions including hidden ones in book.//take the object of the active bookvar openedBook = app.ActiveBook;//function call - defiend belowopenBookFiles(openedBook);function openBookFiles(openedBook){ var bookChapter = openedBook.FirstComponentInBook; var counter = 0; if(bookChapter.ObjectValid()) { var chapterId = bookChapter.id; while (chapterId) { var chapterName = bookChapter.Name; &
Hi All,My question is, How can I get rid of the Character Format that I have applied Paragraph Tag and bring Line 3.16.9 back to Normal Heading 3 ???As shown in image below, I have Heading 3 (Line 3.16.10). I also created Character Format and applied to Heading 3 (Line 3.16.9).Thanks.
Hi, all.I am using FM 12.0.4.445. I am required to have the label attribute populated in section, subsection, figure, and table elements. The label attribute is what is used to build the table of contents, therefore, I have to have the label be the section, figure, etc. number. As I'm sure you can imagine, this makes it very difficult to add a section at the beginning because then I have to go back in and rename all of my labels because the sections numbers increment by one. It wouldn't matter if I was only using FM to convert to .pdf, but I have to round trip this to XML to be kept in a database. Is there a way to make the label attribute of the section, figure, etc. pull the number of that section, figure, etc. with something like <$paranum>? I've tried several different ways and when I save the file as XML, the section number doesn't come in as the label attribute. It comes in as the text "<$paranum>.Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm stuck with my DTD and schemas
I can do what I want to do in InDesign, QuarkXpress, and PageMaker, but for some reason this functionality appears to be absent in FrameMaker, which is utterly dain bramaged.I have a placed image in multiple places in a FrameMaker document. The image is placed by reference, not embedded. I now want to link to a different graphic (annual updates).Re-placing the image a zillion times is not an option, as the sizing and position is already set. I just want to change what FrameMaker is linking to.For the life of me, I cannot find where or even if, I can do this. The inelegant solution would be to simply move or rename the currently-linked-to file on the hard drive, and rename the new graphic to the same name as the old one. I do not like that option at all, as there are some instances in other documents that I still wish to link to the old image file.Is FrameMaker's link handling really this clumsy and archaic? In the other applications I refer to above, I would either go to a links palette
Hi,I checked that C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\14\resources\welcomeScreen\welcome.html is ok with IE11, but I start start Fm 2017 (in trial mode so far), the welcome screen flashes briefly, and is replaced with another pretty useless one, showing link on the top to White Papers.Any idea how I can avoid that? Thanks!
I am trying to activate a frame maker license on a computer, but frame won't let me because it was registered on an older computer that failed several years ago and was tossed. No one is using the license, but adobe apparently has recorded that it was associated with the old machine and won't let me activate it on the new cpu. We have the license, records and installation DVD, but I can't find a method to deactivate the license via Adobe so I can reuse it.Any ideas?
When I double-click a file to open it directly, Framemaker reports the following error. When I open Framemaker and click File>Open and select a Framemaker file, it will appear to open the file but no content is displayed. It is completely blank. If I close, save as, or print the file, the file content appears in the background but it disappears when I close the save/print window. This happens to every Framemaker file including new files. My colleagues can open and edit the files normally. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Framemaker 12 but it did not fix the problem. Kind regards.
I am using a trial version of FrameMaker 2017. It appears that WebHelp, which I was using for context-sensitive help in FrameMaker 2015 did not make the cut. I want to create the same context-sensitive Help project using FrameMaker 2017's Responsive HTML5 Help publisher but can't find the Header file (.h). I want to use the same mapping as I did in the 2015 version. Thanks for your help!

Is there a way to import some (not all) same name para styles to multiple chapters (files) in a book overwriting old settings without apply/update all function in Frame Maker vs. 12?I have a book that has 25 chapters (files) and need to 5 to 8 para styles updates and only want these styles updated. Can these files be updated globally?I’ve yet to figure out how to manage updates globally of same name para styles without performing the following function for each individual chapter in the book:Open the filePaste the updated para styles (5 to 😎Open each para styleApplyUpdate allRepeat this function for each chapter in the book for each para style. It is very time consuming to complete this function for 25 individual files. For five para style updates for a book with 25 chapters equates to 125 functions—there must be a more efficient process to manage style files. Any suggestions are much appreciated on how to manage style updates in a book with 25 chapters?

I think this is a bug, but every time I insert a table it inserts an invalid format--> The title tag is inserted under the tgroup element instead of above it. And the structure is automatically marked invalid. I tried deleting the title element and it wont let me unless I go into the code view and delete the title tags. I've also had it do this and there are no title tags in the xml at all, and then when I place them in the correct location in the xml and switch back to wysiwyg then the structure is fixed.... Has anyone else seen this issue?
I have the page numbers set as I want them in each file of the book. The files are:1. cover2. TOC roman3. LOT roman4. content numericThe LOT reads the page numbers correctly however the TOC does not, it is not clear what it is doing as it starts listing with 1 as wanted but the remaining page numbers continue to be wrong ending up with being off by 5 pages at the end of a 44 page document.I have been all over the forum and went through everything I could find and I can't seem to fix it. Can someone please offer some guidance? Thanks!
New to FM 2015, trying to add a basic text message in a text frame, using hypertext alert, to display in PDF output. So far, can't get it to work. I've followed instructions: select and place cursor in text frame where I would like the PDF comment icon to display. Using hypertext dialog, select "alert" and create a small test message, then add new. Print to PDF using Distiller available in FM. View PDF in Acrobat DC, and no icon, no hypertext alert where cursor was placed in FM frame.Only need simple text pop up, so a plug-in for additional functionality probably not needed for this eLearning project.Must be doing something wrong?Any suggestions appreciated.Thank you in advance.

I wrote a book with several chapters in FrameMaker 10 and there was no problem creating TOC, Index and so on. For an edition with color I changed the page layout, imported the figures (using Illustrator 10.) Now with the new page layout, when I try to create TOC I get the message "Unable to process HTBookCol in book component as it creates cyclical loop. Please fix the loop." I do not know how to fix it. Can anyone tell me what it means and how to fix it? Please bear in mind that I use FrameMaker but am not a program specialist. Thanks for your help.
I'm trying to create a script to save a folder full of FM files to TEXT.My script is running fine until I get to file.Save() and I get a 'file.Save is not a function' error. Can someone help understand where this has gone wrong? Thank you.var selectedFolder = Folder.selectDialog ("Select Folder with Source Files");if(selectedFolder != null){ myFolder = new Folder(selectedFolder); var myFiles = myFolder.getFiles("*.fm");}else{ alert('Could not access that folder');}if(myFiles.length > 0){ listFiles(myFiles);}else{ alert('No FrameMaker files found in this folder');}function listFiles(selectedFiles){ for(var i = 0; i< selectedFiles.length; i++){ saveAsText(selectedFiles); } return true;}//~ https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1819414function saveAsText (file) { // Replace the hash and file extension var
Hi,I am using FrameMaker 2015 and I am trying to open an FM Book that was created in FrameMaker 11. Everything works well until it gets to Chapter Four. When it tries to load the FM file for the chapter, FrameMaker freezes with the following error message:When I click OK, FrameMaker shuts down without any explanation of the error or about how to fix the corrupted(?) file. The file was created in Structure Frame. I am using Adobe FrameMaker Structured to try to open it. I am open to suggestions about how to open and fix the FM file. I can't even get into it to view the contents. Every instance of the file causes the crash - the main FM file, the backup FM file, the archive FM filem, and the VSS copy of the file.Added: In Preferences, I changed from Structured FrameMaker to FrameMaker (unstructured). In doing so, I could open the file, but I get a warning that the file has structured information and that it will be lost if I continue. It gives me an option to open for viewing or to
