I am using a trial version of FrameMaker 2017. It appears that WebHelp, which I was using for context-sensitive help in FrameMaker 2015 did not make the cut. I want to create the same context-sensitive Help project using FrameMaker 2017's Responsive HTML5 Help publisher but can't find the Header file (.h). I want to use the same mapping as I did in the 2015 version. Thanks for your help!

Is there a way to import some (not all) same name para styles to multiple chapters (files) in a book overwriting old settings without apply/update all function in Frame Maker vs. 12?I have a book that has 25 chapters (files) and need to 5 to 8 para styles updates and only want these styles updated. Can these files be updated globally?I’ve yet to figure out how to manage updates globally of same name para styles without performing the following function for each individual chapter in the book:Open the filePaste the updated para styles (5 to 😎Open each para styleApplyUpdate allRepeat this function for each chapter in the book for each para style. It is very time consuming to complete this function for 25 individual files. For five para style updates for a book with 25 chapters equates to 125 functions—there must be a more efficient process to manage style files. Any suggestions are much appreciated on how to manage style updates in a book with 25 chapters?

I think this is a bug, but every time I insert a table it inserts an invalid format--> The title tag is inserted under the tgroup element instead of above it. And the structure is automatically marked invalid. I tried deleting the title element and it wont let me unless I go into the code view and delete the title tags. I've also had it do this and there are no title tags in the xml at all, and then when I place them in the correct location in the xml and switch back to wysiwyg then the structure is fixed.... Has anyone else seen this issue?
I have the page numbers set as I want them in each file of the book. The files are:1. cover2. TOC roman3. LOT roman4. content numericThe LOT reads the page numbers correctly however the TOC does not, it is not clear what it is doing as it starts listing with 1 as wanted but the remaining page numbers continue to be wrong ending up with being off by 5 pages at the end of a 44 page document.I have been all over the forum and went through everything I could find and I can't seem to fix it. Can someone please offer some guidance? Thanks!
New to FM 2015, trying to add a basic text message in a text frame, using hypertext alert, to display in PDF output. So far, can't get it to work. I've followed instructions: select and place cursor in text frame where I would like the PDF comment icon to display. Using hypertext dialog, select "alert" and create a small test message, then add new. Print to PDF using Distiller available in FM. View PDF in Acrobat DC, and no icon, no hypertext alert where cursor was placed in FM frame.Only need simple text pop up, so a plug-in for additional functionality probably not needed for this eLearning project.Must be doing something wrong?Any suggestions appreciated.Thank you in advance.
Hello folks I'm trying to make a script to print my current doc (before merging it with other script)I have A4 format document, I need to print it to my "Adobe PDF Printer" with Registred Marks in an A3 Format.(my default printer is Adobe PDF but with A4 Format)My first step whas to look at the Framemaker scripting PDF file, to learn how to print my doc.I see only "SimplePrintDoc method to print.... butThe help, speak about the "SetInt()" method to set the properties ... never find the SetInt() in the help !!!So i try changing the ActiveDoc parameters. But changing PDFRegistrationMarks/ PDFPage(size) or PrintPaper(size), PrintRegistratinMarks ... do nothing when i want to print. So I guest that SimplePrintDoc juste print with the default Printer parameters. Is there a way to print with the parameters i want?var vDoc = app.ActiveDoc;vDoc.PrinterName = null;vDoc.PrintRegistrationMarks = 1;vDoc.PDFPageHeight = 55174076;vDoc.PDFPageWidth = 39011973;vDoc.PrintPaperHeight = 39011973*2;;vDoc.Pri
I wrote a book with several chapters in FrameMaker 10 and there was no problem creating TOC, Index and so on. For an edition with color I changed the page layout, imported the figures (using Illustrator 10.) Now with the new page layout, when I try to create TOC I get the message "Unable to process HTBookCol in book component as it creates cyclical loop. Please fix the loop." I do not know how to fix it. Can anyone tell me what it means and how to fix it? Please bear in mind that I use FrameMaker but am not a program specialist. Thanks for your help.
I'm trying to create a script to save a folder full of FM files to TEXT.My script is running fine until I get to file.Save() and I get a 'file.Save is not a function' error. Can someone help understand where this has gone wrong? Thank you.var selectedFolder = Folder.selectDialog ("Select Folder with Source Files");if(selectedFolder != null){ myFolder = new Folder(selectedFolder); var myFiles = myFolder.getFiles("*.fm");}else{ alert('Could not access that folder');}if(myFiles.length > 0){ listFiles(myFiles);}else{ alert('No FrameMaker files found in this folder');}function listFiles(selectedFiles){ for(var i = 0; i< selectedFiles.length; i++){ saveAsText(selectedFiles); } return true;}//~ https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1819414function saveAsText (file) { // Replace the hash and file extension var
Hi,I am using FrameMaker 2015 and I am trying to open an FM Book that was created in FrameMaker 11. Everything works well until it gets to Chapter Four. When it tries to load the FM file for the chapter, FrameMaker freezes with the following error message:When I click OK, FrameMaker shuts down without any explanation of the error or about how to fix the corrupted(?) file. The file was created in Structure Frame. I am using Adobe FrameMaker Structured to try to open it. I am open to suggestions about how to open and fix the FM file. I can't even get into it to view the contents. Every instance of the file causes the crash - the main FM file, the backup FM file, the archive FM filem, and the VSS copy of the file.Added: In Preferences, I changed from Structured FrameMaker to FrameMaker (unstructured). In doing so, I could open the file, but I get a warning that the file has structured information and that it will be lost if I continue. It gives me an option to open for viewing or to
Hello experts FM, I have a text issue. I have a book with 10 *.fm files.I would need the text from different *.fm files to be fluent, without page breaks in between. Is that possible? Is it possible also on older versions, like 8 or 9?Thank you for your help, Karen
FM12, landscape-format three-pager, containing a title and a table: no problems distilling a .pdfI daringly add table footnotes … distiller hangs, and Windows explains confidentially waiting for splwow64.exewhat's all this, then?
I have a document that I've edited extensively. There are now many images that are not being used. Is there any way to quickly identify which ones are not used in the updated document, short of looking at each one and checking if it appears in the document?
I am still at a loss to understand what the error message means. Can someone help me?
Hi,I have a FM 11 book with the existing Index, which I keep updating from release to release. This time, when creating Index markers, they do not appear in the generated Index. Typically, after creating Index markers in chapters, I update book, and then new Index entries appear in the Index. But not this time. Could you please advise how this can be fixed? Thanks you!
Tech Comm Suite 2 (out of a box) was installed on an old laptop that has since malfunctioned. When I tried to reinstall on a brand new computer, it won't let me. Help!
When I try to generate a TOC from a Book file I get the message the book is not self consistent. What does it mean and how can I rectify it?
When I try to click on a menu item such as View or Help, and try to scroll down the list, the cursor jumps to another menu item and you can't keep the cursor on the menu long enough to select anything. Also, the font used in the interface is so tiny that it's barely readable. Is this a function of my screen resolution? I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell laptop but FM17 ran just fine on a Lenovo laptop. As it stands right now, I can't use FM17 for anything - it's pretty much useless. FM15 let you select small or large icons, etc. Was that removed in FM17?
Good morning all you FrameMaker wizards. I've run into an issue (er, learning opportunity) that I cannot figure out.I have a table of format "Symbol Tabl2col." Image of cell margins included.I have an object style "Symbol Frame Large" - anchor type included.I have a paragraph style where the images are placed called "TableCell - Vertical Center." It is set with alignment = Left. When I put it all together, the gap to the right of my images (which should be 7.5 points) does not exist. I have tried many adjustments on table format, object style, and paragraph style and cannot seem to get the correct gap to appear.Someone out there knows the answer. (I love the internet.) Thank you in advance for your help!! Diane
I'm creating a directory-type document in 6 languages, that has multiple sections. The headers of each section need to display the section title in all 6 languages, so I've created 6 Running H/F variables that pick up the section title in each language, on the first body page of each section. However, I don't really want the 6 different language versions to appear in the main text of the document, I only want those text values to be picked up by the Running h/f variables and displayed in the page headers. My work around at the moment is to make the section titles on the body pages tiny and white (2 point text on 2 point line space, font colour white) so that they are not visible in the printed output, but are still visible to the Running H/F variables, but this creates a large space on the first page of each section where these 6 "invisible" lines of text appear.Does anyone know of a smarter way of doing this please?
I am trying to print a framemaker document to a postscript format. We used to use version 7.1, and now are at version 13. Many of our framemaker files have an include statement which was supposed to reference postscript code produced by a different program that was inserted into the document. This is the following code in the framemaker file:/showpage {} def#include "s:/DIRECTORY/SUB_DIR/FILE.cps"/CPSFILE (s:/DIRECTORY/SUB_DIR/FILE.cps) def CHECK_FILEOur previous version of framemaker used to insert the actual code from the 'FILE.cps' into the printed document but now this no longer happens. I have opened up the old and new versions of the output postscript format documents in text windows and seen that this is the case. This leads to distilling errors when converting to a PDF because the #include statement seems to not be supported by that (even though #include command isn't even supposed to be in the (PS) document.
I've created docs in FrameMaker 2015 that developers want to export into Sphinx. Is that possible, and if so what is the best way to do that? Thanks,Neysa
FM 13.0.5.547This behaviour is completely new to me... I have a book and its twenty chapters open in Framemaker.Do a Find (ctrl+f) for a string. Each time I get a hit, I press <shift-f7> to jump into the text and make corrections. Then I click 'find' again. If no more instances of the string are found in the current document, Frame is now *closing* the document (prompting to save changes if any were made) when it goes to the next doc in the book.Have I somehow flipped an option that controls this behaviour, or is this actually broken? Thanks!
