FrameMaker

I have a set of steps that I am referencing via conref.  In the source document there are no <data></data> tags. But every time I conref to the source document the results inserts those tags, the xml line in my resulting file (not the source file) looks something like this:<taskbody><steps conref="blahblahSourceMaterial"><data></data></steps></taskbody>This always creates a validation error that the data tags are empty, but I can't find anywhere that indicates they're required when using a conref -- this seems to only happen when I conref the Steps element. I seem to be able to delete these tags in the destination file and it works fine, but it's frustrating to do this.  Is this a bug, or am I missing some knowledge here about how to appropriately conref steps?Additional note, the <data></data> tags also never display when View > Element Boundaries (as Tags) is set in the WYSIWYG view.

I am experiencing 2 issues.1. The "Next" and "Previous" buttons don't always work right. Sometimes it skips a topic or they don't appear at all.2. The page I am on should be highlighted on the left panel but often, the very first page is highlighted instead.Anyone else experience any of this?Thanks,Greg

I have an XML file, which I want to generate a Framemaker (tried with both 11 and 2017) document out of it. FrameMaker 2015: I inadvertently touched some key combination that made the Graphics Toolbar and the Variables Pod "free-floating" on top of other parts of the document. Previously, they did not obscure the document. Instead, they fit around the document. How do I restore that view?

I'm using unstructured FrameMaker 2015.  Some of the documents in the book I'm working with contain Mini TOCs.  The Mini TOC in one document is not updating when I add or delete sections in the document.  The sections changes update accurately in the Main TOC.  In the Update Book dialog box, the Mini TOC check box is selected.  Any ideas how to fix this problem?

I have got the Trial version of Framemaker 2017 and wanted to open a MIF file someone sent me but I keep getting the convert window up and when I click OK I get a message telling me it is impossible to open the file. Have tried another MIF file and the same thing. I thought this program opened MIF files?

How can I use Framemaker 2015 on a second computer as well as the one where it is now?

FM Folks:Downloaded a trial of FM 10, loaded old 7.2 files. FM 10 read them perfectly, but, when I tried to save the file, an error message popped up that said I didn't have 'write permission" to lock or write to these files. How do I get permission?Is this a Windows, not an Adobe issue? Does the trial version only allow creating of new files, but not editing of others? Am running Windows 7 and using a downloaded trial version of FM 10. Two days down on my thirty, and I can't save the files in the new format. The Archive utility (a script Adobe created that packages all of a book's files, including images regardless of their source location) does not work in FrameMaker 2015. Is there a new version available? FrameMaker's built-in Package function only pulls in images if they're in the same folder as the book.

I downloaded a free trial of FrameMaker 17 but now I need to open everything I worked on back to our original FrameMaker 11 version since we are not purchasing just yet. I tried to open the updated document in FrameMaker 11 but it says "it can't be opened with this release of the product."

I generate the HTML5 output in File > Publish with no errors or warnings, but when trying to view the output, only empty content panes appear with a "thinking" wheel that spins indefinitely.

Hello, I'm looking for a solution that will allow us to integrate fields in a Chapter Review-style question area where users can comment their answers (instead of using StickyNotes). It must disallow printing/copying etc to meet content protection requirements. I've dug through all of my options and can't seem to find any viable method without allowing the "Edit Content" option which allows users to copy the content.We're currently using FrameMaker 9 but will be jumping to TCS5 soon.As an example, we would want something like the following question, which exists in a FrameMaker document, to be commented on:2. Here's another "can I switch from Word" question. I am an old (5.5) Frame ACE now in a new job where we use Word. Frame would be a much better choice in many ways, for many reasons. I could use some help figuring out whether Frame creates forms that convert easily to PDF. As an end product, what we need is a PDF form with a large number of fixed-length text fields; users must be able to download the form and fill it in at their leisure, either all at once or in stages, saving their work as they go. These files are currently constructed in Word out of tables. They are a terrible mess and must be recreated from scratch. If Frame handles forms well, we can start that work fresh in Frame and dump Word completely. (This is a question I could answer for myself in a few minutes if I could download a trial. Bad timing.) Can somebody with a current copy of Frame tell me how it handles forms and whether it's possible to use Frame to create PDF forms with plenty of fixed-length text fields, s

I've seen the webinar links for form design in FrameMaker... but unfortunately, I need to know before the middle of May. Use-Case:An editor would like to use a form while proof-reading a manuscript. The form should contain a few drop down lists to pick from and a free form text where the editor can then add a comment.Ideally, this data could be saved inside a marker.A collaborator could then search on these markers, open the form to read the editor's instructions and then update the comment field.I've got no issues coding in Frame maker. Hello all,I have stumbled across a bug that has apparently been present in FM since version 7.1 and nobody ever noticed. I guess I am the only one doing this crazy stuff then. Here is the bug description:When writing a text-only element out to XML that contains a marker (which is NOT a conditional text marker), FM introduces a newline character immediately following the PI. I found this when using a custom marker to mark the paragraphs that have a change bar in FM. I know that the @11188742 should be used to drive the change bar but the customer does not have these attributes and was not allowed to make changes to the EDD or DTD. When reading the XML back into FM and removing the markers (using them to set the change bars in the right locations again), there were extra spaces (the newline characters in the XML). The only workaround I could find is creating an event handler script that opens the XML as text file, either after writing it out or before reading it back in, and replaces all

I really need the File > Publish option to publish my DITA book. It's not there! I see I can generate DITA OT output, but want the multi-channel publishing options from the File menu that I keep reading about.i'm using FM 2015. Can't tell if it's full FM or XML Author.And what's up with File > Print missing. I wonder what else is missing from this and other menus!

In unstructured Framemaker 12, when we select all of the documents in a specific book, they used to all open as tabs of the same Window. Most of the are now opening in individual windows apart from the last five or six which appear as tabs in a single window.Nothing was changed in the book document or the files themselves. And this only occurs with one book.Any thoughts?

Hello, we have recently upgraded to Frammaker 2017 from Framemaker 10. In Frame 10 you were able to drag and drop graphics directly from Adobe Bridge and have them "Import by Copy" into an anchored frame. With Frame 2017 the graphic only comes across as "Import by Reference".Is there a setting that can be changed to have the graphic "Import by Copy" using the drag and drop method from Bridge?When doing many graphics, it's a bit long winded going through the File-Import-Graphic and then select the file and remember to check the "Import by Copy" check box each time.
