I'm using Windows 7 – FrameMaker 11 – UnstructuredI have a book with several chapters, and each chapter has several files in it. I’m trying to get the chapter title to run across all the files in that chapter. Many previous authors have worked on these files, and some even set the Running H/F 1 thru 4 variables as plain text to get them to work. I’m going through and standardizing this.I place a Header/Footer 4 marker at the chapter title in the first chapter file. I use Running H/F 4 in the master page headers of all the subsequent files in that chapter. All Running H/F 4 are defined as <marker2>. Most files properly show the chapter title, but some are blank. I can’t figure out why there are still a couple of files that won’t pick up the marker2.Any suggestions on what’s wrong and how to fix this?Rose
Dear fiends,You know, the last 10% are the most cumbersome ones...With my script I get a "white document window" after opening of document files. I can not reproduce the behaviour reliably neither within FM (with menu) nor with ESTK (invoking only one function without menu). Even if the white screen appears, ESTK does not show a halt or error.Painstaikenly repeating the actions (after a double FM-restart - see later why double) the effect may happen or not:------------------------------------------------------------------------ ESTK, different sequence of filesOpen FMOpen Simple TextStart Script for work with Dialog C Refresh ... script works correctlyOpen Markers and tables => white screen Working on the markers possible (but I don't see what) CTRL-l does not do anything Running SetDisplay from ESTK does not change the situation Where are we stuck? Hi thereWhen using FM 2015 to open all chapter files in any FM 8.1 book of our legacy documentation, FM crashes after executing the task (Internal error). FM first says conversion will take place, then opens all files, goes into "not responding" and crashes. Crash is not on one particular file or book.Books open fine in FM 2015 on other machines.Tried the following:checked software updates: OKde-installing/re-installing FM2015: no resultopening chapter files one by one, still crash after last file openedIf colleague opens the files and saves them as FM2015 files, I have no issue opening them, so I guess something goes wrong doing the conversion.I do have full admin rights on my machine and on the maker.ini.only workaround no is to open the recovery files afther the crash and save them as originals, but this is not an option considering the large number of files in the booksI can send the error report FM generates upon crashing.thanksDaveMessage was edited by: Jeff Coatsworth All refs c
I'm using a text file to keep a number that is used in controlled documents. For example file contents can be: 17-154. So when we need to create a new controlled document it will be 17-155 and so forth. All that works fine, but:- What if the text file does not exist?I would like to create a text file from scratch and write '17-001' to it...Any ideas? Thanks guys.
Why can't I seen dialog box options in FrameMaker 12 when my screen text size is set to medium (125%)?
With the same book on Windows 7 Pro, it takes one or two minutes to make a PDF. On Windows 10, it takes 12 minutes. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am using Save as PDF and I can't get the print to PDF feature to work.
Hi,How do i deactivate the software and do i need to do anything else when instaling on new PC. I have serial number etcThanksGlen
HiI have installed the 2017 FDK to compile a previous project. I think I have set all the options correctly but when trying to build I get some errors related to the linker. This is the first one:error LNK2038: mismatch detected for '_MSC_VER': value '1600' doesn't match value '1800' in fdk.lib(fde_netlib.obj)From what I have investigated it appears that the fdk.lib was compiled with VS2012, in the FDK requirements it says to use VS2010 like I have done with previous releases, but in this case I think the FDK libs should be compiled with 2010 also. Please let me know if this is the case or if I can try something else. Thanks
I have Frame 10 running on Windows 10 Home. I've never had a problem. Just recently, any time I try to open one of my files, it shows nothing but a white screen. If I bring up a dialog, it then shows the text of my document, but as soon as I dismiss the dialog to try to edit the text, the screen goes to all white again. Please advise. I have 10.0.3 patch installed. I've never seen anything like this in all my years of using Framemaker. I'm wondering if a recent operating system automatic patch update is causing the problem with my version of Framemaker now. I have version 1607 of Windows 10 Home, OS Build 14393.693.
After the successful webinar “One Content – Many Layouts! Automate your Design with FrameMaker” with automation and publishing expert Markus Wiedenmaier in November last year, we got a lot of requests to follow up on this topic.Markus was so kind to write an in-depth blog post explaining in detail how to manage automatic master page assignments for classic (aka “unstructured”) FrameMaker Documents and structured FrameMaker document. The blog post also covers in detail automatic master page assignments and layout automation for XML-based content with Adobe FrameMaker. You can read the full blog post on the Adobe TechComm blog here. Let us know what you think and put your questions in the comments at the end of the blog post.
I've worked hard to answer this question myself, but need to turn to the forum members for help.I have a book that is separated in to files as follows. This is illustrative only - there are dozens of files in the book.Section 1.fm (<$paratext[SectionTitle]>=Before You Begin)Introduction.fm (this is currently chapter 1;there is no instance of SectionTitle so that chapter files can be reordered under different sections by just reordering files in the book)Important Safety Information.fmSection 2.fm (<$paratext[SectionTitle]>=Key Pump Features)Other chapter files here.fmThere is thumbnail text in the chapter files that needs to reference the SectionTitle text (which is only found in the section files). So - there are five chapters in Section 1 that have thumbnails that need to read and fill in "Before You Begin"The book is designed so that when a product manager decides to add a new chapter or rename a section or add a section divider, this can be done very quickly. However, th
Hi all,is there any Plugin, similar to the "Duden-Korrektor"? We need a grammar checking tool / plugin, which is working with FrameMaker 13. Any ideas?thank you in advance.Best regards,WST
Importing Jpegs into FM does not work. They show broken or ragged or not at all. No problems with Tifs resulting in very heavy documents. Any solution?
Hi All,I updated a Book, but after update why some files stays locked? This is annoying while you have to update book multiple times, it does not update and you get error for File is Locked. After updating a Book, you see below that EXP_Pre-Install_CH1.fm.lck and EXP_Pre-Install_Appendix-AA.fm.lck are locked.Any comment on this matter will be great.Thanks.
ESTK and FDK documentation and even typeof claims that $.stack is a string. If it is printed with $.writeline it behaves as such and creates multiple lines.I want to build a function which can be called in any routine and will then indicate the calling level by indentation and the name of the function. For that puprose I wanted to split the 'string' into an array, the length of which indicating the nesting level of the function in question. But it turns out that $.stack can not be handled as a string:function ZTrace () {// $.stack is not a string - what is it?var level, aStack = [], s1Stack, s2Stack; s1Stack = toHex($.stack); $.writeln (s1Stack); // see what it looks like s2Stack = $.stack.toString(); // sStack behaves as stack aStack = s2Stack.split (hex2a("829a")); /
OK, so I have the TCS Annual Subscription and running TCS 2015. What steps do I take to update from TCS 2015 to TCS 2017?
Hi Scripter,we want to check all the text content within a book with a regular expression and JavaScript. We have no idea how it works. Can someone help us?Thank you.
This is probably a silly question.I have moved my Framemaker 2015 license from a previous machine running Windows 8 to a new one running Windows 10.I am trying to update a book for the first time since this move occurred. When I choose Update Book, I get the "Update Book" window with "Generate Table of Contents, Lists and Indexes" checked. However, no file appear in the "Generate" frame where I should see the Table of Contents and Index names.See screen copy below. Sorry it is a french license 😉I have no idea why these disappeared. How can I tell Framemaker to generate the files ?Thank you for your help.Patrick
We work with a number of users with Adobe FrameMaker 12.We get a new employee there and we need an additional license for version 12.The latest version of frame maker however is 2015/2017.I am informed by Adobe that it is possible to obtain a downgrade to version 12 for 1 license. The order that i have placed for Framemaker 2015 trough my reseller now appears not to be a Framemaker volume license? In order to downgrade the framemaker software i have to purchase the volume license of framemaker 2017.My reseller says that he is not able to return the license of Framemaker 2015 that i have bought, because he already registrated it and returned it with a key license from Adobe. I have not used this key license. I want to return the wrong framemaker 2015 version and license and buy a volume license instead. How can i arrange that?
Something that irritates me A LOT is that every time I open a book or a file, it doesn't cover my whole screen. I always have to maximize the window. When I open the next, all windows are small again. Is there a way to open ALL books and files maximized from the start?FM7.2
Hi, I have used another XML editor for making DITA topics and now I am planning to use FrameMaker XML Author 12 for DITA editing. After testing, I checked for the DITA sources output from FrameMaker XML Author and found that the following attributes are added. - [frame="all"] added in <table> tags- [width] and [height] specified in <image> tags- [outputclass="fm:xxx"] attribute in <xref> tagsAre there any settings to disable or change these attributes?
I'm considering whether or not to upgrade from version 2015 to 2017 and the oldest files in my system appear to be Framemaker 9. Will an upgrade cause access issues to these older files?
Hi,I know this is a giant leap in terms of upgrading, but I'd just like some reassurance.I have downloaded the trial version of FM(2017) on my laptop to try it out, and it works fine alongside FM8. But before I install it on my production desktop machine I wonder if it would be best to completely uninstall FM8 before downloading the new version. Do the two versions share any resources, or will FM8 uninstall 'cleanly' at a later date without affecting FM(2017)?Thanks.... mike
One chapter in my FrameMaker document is aligned to the middle-left of the page. We cannot get the chapter to move the paragraphs included to the left of the page. There is a line in the middle-left where the paragraphs begin, but I cannot click on it or move it. How can I realign the chapter to the left of the page?
Browsed the FM 2017 announcements, and even though there seems to many nice additions and fixes I can't seem to find the important bullet about importing text-formatted files (md, commonmark, rst or such). Nor any mentions about source-code (Github, Mercurial, Svn or such) or Cloud-storage such as Dropbox/OneDrive/GDrive etc integration. Odd. I hope I'm just overlooking something here...
