Hello! We have a custom XML schema and a structured application that allows us to edit our XML documents in FM. The schema contains a definition for a cross reference element and a definition for a target element.=============================================================Example:A cross reference element (say, documentA.xml contains this element): <cref target="documentB.xml#sect123"/>.A target element (say, documentB.xml contains this element): <section id="sect123"/>.Also I have a book in FM that includes both documentA.xml and documentB.xml.=============================================================FM outputs error messages when I try to save documentA.xml.So, I have few questions concerning this issue. How should I describe the cref element in EDD?A manual says, that the @Target attribute must be of the IDREF type. Sounds good but the # char is restricted for IDREF values. How can I resolve this contradiction? If I write <cref target="sect123"/> (target id witho
FrameMarker 12: if there are so many font, font page is truncated, then I cannot selected what I want, like Simsun.
I know how to replace it in one file, but when I try to apply it to the book, it doesnt work.
I want to start the process of transferring a licence for FrameMaker from a seller to myself. But the instructions at <Transfer an Adobe product license> ask me to contact Adobe to first obtain a case form, but the "Contact Us" link just sends me to the forums, not to a message form I can fill in. How can I get out of the product support universe to find someone to email re a legal issue? Is it possible to reach a human any more or has Adobe delegated pre-sales and post-sales support totally to users?Hedley at [email address removed by host]
Hello,I am using the Trial version of FM 12 and attempting to export to both WebHelp and CHM.We would like to use the original images, but the Publish process is resizing them. I read that setting Maximum Dimensions, Width and Height to 0 will cause the program not to resize the image. However, when I set W/H to 0, the images are deleted from my project output. When I generate WebHelp I noticed that the HTML has a set style, but I haven't selected any of the options in the Image style. <p class="FM_Figure"><img alt="UserRoles04NewRole.png" style="width : 306.319pt; height : 96.559pt; margin-bottom : 0.000pt; " id="image3" src="UserRoles04NewRole.png" /> </p>I'm glad that the HTML is referencing the original graphic, I was thinking that for sure that the graphics were converted during the Publish process. But how do I configure my .sts so that the images are not resized? Thanks!
Hi allI've been struggling with this all morning and think it's time to give up and ask for help.(Btw there is a similar topic here: Creating Parts or Volumes in FM Book Files but it doesn't really help me much)I want to have the following structure in my FM 12 book:Some introductory filesSECTION 1 - Getting Started Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3SECTION 2 - Configuration Chapter 4 Chapter 5 etc etcI cannot get the section numbers (or in FM's case, are these Volume numbers?) to number sequentially. For some reason the first two are ok, but for Section 3 and 4 they still say Section 2.Also, the chapter numbering has also now gone wonky.I've hunted high and low but cannot work this out. I've added folders, thinking that this might help, but it doesn't.This is my actual book structure:The tags I'm using at present for the chapter titles and section/volume titles are:
Hi allMy user guide has several section title pages, which detail what users will find in the chapters in that particular section.I've been asked to create a link from each bullet in the section page to the relevant chapter.I don't want to include the chapter title in the bullets in the section page. For exampleMy first chapter is called "Getting Started".Before this chapter, there is a "section file", which says something like"This section contains details of the following:How to get started with productInformation contained in chapter 2information contained in chapter 3"I want users to be able to click on the text "How to get started with product" and be taken directly to the start of chapter 1.I don't want the bullet in the section page to read "Getting started".Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advanceLaura
Hello All,I am trying to create new DITA topic as new task , getting following error on Frame Maker Console. Can some one suggest , what can be done here to avoid the error. Not getting required template.[Moved to Structured forum by moderator]
Hi. According to the documentation, the default sort order for indexes is <$symbols><$numbers><$alphabetics> with hyphens, nonbreaking hyphens, en dashes, and em dashes ignored by default. Nothing about underscores, so they should be sorted on first, right? But they are not in my document. Example:PaymentModule_Order_HeadPaymentModule_OrderPayment_CapturePaymentModule_Order_TabsWhat I want to see is:PaymentModule_Order_HeadPaymentModule_Order_TabsPaymentModule_OrderPayment_CaptureIs there an easy way to fix this so underscores have precedence over alphabetics? I've tried rearranging the building blocks every which way but nothing seems to work.
I've had to break up a chapter into four smaller files, because otherwise my FM10 installation chokes on the referenced graphics and dies on its feet while attempting to generate a .pdf.With a deadline looming – of course! – the owner has decided he wants more informative headers.<$paratext[h1,:h1_n]> pulls in the required information … but seems to be cut off at the file boundary. The :h1 in the first of the files is Registration, which is picked up as expected, but not in the three files that follow; and which don't have a :h1 paragraph. The quick'n'dirty solution, I think, will be to hard-code the headers for subfiles 2, 3 and 4. I was just wondering whether there might be a more elegant solution – so, not one that involves redefining :h1 to be somehow invisible, white on white and taking up no space :-}Thanks in advance!
I am upgrading to a new laptop. How do I migrate my workspace files so that I don't have to rebuild my workspace from scratch on the new machiine?
Hello All,We have a proprietary XML format. We've built a custom structured application (EDD, template, read/write rules) in FM12. How does FrameMaker support XPath (or anything that works similarly to XPath)? Is it possible to manipulate our custom XML elements using XPath and/or ExtendScript? For example, is it possible to find an element by an XPath query or something similar to XPath programmatically? Many thanks!
From FM 12, I am only being given the option to save as mif12 or mif7.Unfortunately, SDL Trados only supports MIF files from versions 8 to 11. So mif12 throws an error that the FM version used to create is too new, and mif7 throws an error that the FM version is too old.I've already tried "tricking" trados by editing the header of the MIF file manually to show version 9 point something, but it doesn't make any difference. How can I get around this?

I cannot find the info on how to insert an Inset into an existing AFrame using ExtendScript. Does anyone have experience with this?ThanksJang
Hello fellows,I have recently tested the "Compare Books" utility available in FM10. It works well except for the following:1. Does not create a BookCMP file, so if you would like to create a book out of the resulting CMP files, you have to create such a book or rename the CMP files and put them back in the original book. 2. When comparing changes between tables, Framemaker does not highlight the changes but just brings the 2 versions of the same table into the CMP file, which is really confusing.I wonder if anybody else uses this feature and how you deal with these 2 problems. Thanks!
Not knowing much about notification, but believing that I wouldn't do anything that couldn't be undone, I experimented with using notification in an old script (which I'll call oldScript.jsx for reference) in order to (have my script) learn when a document or a book got closed. The code line that I inserted in oldScript.jsx was:Notification(Constants.FA_Note_PostQuitDoc, Constants.FA_Note_PostQuitBook); // Register for notificationsI also added a stub for handling the notification callback. I didn't get far enough to write the callback code.I added oldScript.jsx to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker10\startup folder and started FrameMaker. After deciding that I no longer wanted to register for any notifications, I removed the registration line above (and the callback handler stub) and renamed the script to newScript.jsx (and put it in the startup folder after deleting oldScript.jsx from the startup fo
I am using FrameMaker 11 with Team Foundation Server 2010 and have a question about managing graphics. We have several people working on the same book file (all in different locations).Everything works very well except we kept running into issues with the graphic files. We used to import all the graphics by reference, but it became difficult to manage the graphics outside of the frame files using TFS.We have since copied the graphics into the Frame files which makes the file sizes very large.I am wondering if anyone has experience with this and knows of a better way to manage the graphics.Any info would be much appreciated.Cheers,Mack
Can someone tell me how to write a script for creating a variable, named DocDate, that contains the value of the Modification Date (Long) system variable? Or to write a script that creates a variable, named DocDate, that contains the current date??? I can't seem to find a whole lot of documentation on ExtendScript script writing.
Hi allMy colleague has noticed something very strange in Framemaker 12. He's created a new character tag, applied it, and hey presto, a change bar appears. We've checked the character designer, and Change Bars is not selected for that character style. This only seems to happen for styles that he's created recently. When he applies the default font option, the change bar disappears.Anyone got any ideas?ThanksLaura
Hi.In the FM10 manual, it says the text of the index entry in the Marker panel can be entered up to 255 characters (127 Japanese double-byte characters). But, When I entered 500 English characters or 300 Japanese characters, the index marker can be generated and no message to tell me the markertext is too long.In the FM7, if I entered more than 256 character or 128 Japanese characters, FM7 shows the message that marker text is too long. How many characters in the marker text limited in FM10?Regardserieru103
