FrameMaker

Hi,I want to map the same master page to be used by four different tags. Must I create a new row in the mapping table for each or can I separate the tag names by a comma and a space, for example, "Body, Bullet, Heading1, Note"?I tried the latter and expected it to work, but it did not.Thanks,Sean

I have more screens at work than at home. When working from home I can't see/access dialogs which were last displayed on the additional screen at work. Is there a shortcut key to move the dialog to the primary screen?

Hi,I'm very new to DITA, I understand XML but am looking to create more documents using it and DITA/Framemaker seems the way to go.Is it possible to create a document that looks through all of the topics in a folder then creates a new topic from those (essentially a summary), pulling out certain elements?I'm looking at a timesaving mechanism, so that I can have lots of folders with subjects in each (ie - several topics) then be able to quickly create either summary sheets or note sheets from that contentMany thanksJohn.

HiI am creating a documentation using FM11. In this, I have used quite a few terms. Though I have given their definitions as a separate section within the FM file, I also want the definitions to be available a rollover text. Is that possible? For example, when the learner moves his mouse over a term called "Project folder", a tooltip-like text should appear with the description of "Project folder".If not, can I give the description as a pop-up window that will work in PDF? Worst case scenario, I will have to go with "Jump to Named Destination" feature in FM to take the learner to description section and ask him to use "Previous View" (in PDF) to get back to the position where he came from.SreekanthP.S.: I have read that Shlomo Peret's Timesavers can do the job for me. But, for now, I am not looking to buy anything.

How can I move paragraph formats from one document to a new one?

Hi,Still finding my way around Framemaker! I'm trying to save as a pdf but exclude some XML elementsI have used DITA for the files (chapters) but seem to have ended up with a framemaker TOC and book format (.fm), but if that will work, that's k for now.BUT I have cone to save as PDF, then under tags excluded 'note' and 'related links' but they still appear in the pdf output.Can anyone give me some advice?Many thanksJohn

We currently use FM12, with unstructured documents, and output in PDF, WebHelp and HTML formats. We would like to move to structured authoring. I have looked in the Framemaker 12 manual, but I am still unclear about how to use the built-in DocBook EDD samples supplied with FrameMaker.Do you have any recommendations, examples, or a tutorial to help us make the transition from unstructured to structured as easy as possible?

Is there a way in FrameMaker 10 in the book to quickly find all imported graphics (.bmp, .cgm, .jpg, & .wmf) that are out-of-aspect ratio or where the Object Properties Scaling equals 0%?I import a lot of graphic (around a 100 or so) in FrameMaker 10 and I would like to be reassured that all imported graphic have the correct aspect ratio, and find any that are wrong quickly.I would like to be able to do this search in the Book format rather than each section.Is there a way to do this?Thanks!

I'm experiencing a significant cursor lag that began before I installed the 12.03.4 patch, but now seems worse. I'm running Windows 8.1 on an ASUS i7 laptop with 16GB RAM.None of my documents is particularly large. Closing the Marker window has no effect.This behavior occurs only in Frame. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Hi I am using the text line tool in Framemaker to display callouts for graphics. The output displays okay in PDF. However, when I use the publication option for webhelp and HTML5, the text is truncated and only the first letter is displayed. Not sure what's happening?I've tried updating the mapping style, but this does not help. I am using FrameMaker 12 (part of the Adobe Communications Suite)Any suggestions?

Hello,I have recently updated from Framemaker 7 to Framemaker 12.So far so good.But i'm facing following problem since.When I want to pdf a framemaker file, the first page is blank. The second page and following are all ok.How do I overcome this issue?Both the master page congent and body page content are just invisible.Is this a new setting?I have tried it with different (both old & new) documents, and the problem remains.Kind regards,Bjorn

Using Publish pad in Frame 12, I get an error message:MIF: "C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp\TPUBTMP\FileName_A01.mif" (5239): Value of Separation out of range (10)Is there somewhere where these issues are listed?Thanks in advance.

We publish very large documents and are slowly transitioning them into ePubs. They contain tons of cross references - most of which work fine. However, there appears to be one type of cross reference that does not work (i.e. link) in the ePub output. It looks like it should work based on the publish settings, and it turns blue in the ePub. It just doesn't link. Not sure how to fix it. Would it help to attach an ePub file? Thanks in advance for the help!

When I save framemaker 11 it keeps crashing.The errors says saving as different extention and then the document just evaporates

My situation:Several of my paragraph styles frequently reference graphics in anchored frames on the reference page.When I publish a document using these styles to HTML5, the referenced graphics do not translate.I understand why this happens. However, it forces me to manually import the graphic every time I use the style.These graphics are mandated by a safety standard, so I can't just get rid of them for the sake of streamlining my multi-channel template.I really don't want to use separate templates for publishing to PDF or HTML5. If I need to do so, is it really multi-channel publishing? My goal:I want to use the same template and paragraph styles for all of my publishing channels.The feature I'd like to see:When FM publishes content to HTML5, it either:checks for paragraph styles that reference graphics in the reference pages and migrates those graphics into the HTML source folder, or;migrates all reference page graphics into the HTML source folder.

FM 12 has been crashing regularly, and I am hopeful that the 12.0.3 update will help, but I'm getting the message "Update Failed" when I run the update.The "Error Log" simply says:Adobe FrameMaker 12.0.3 UpdateInstallation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7I wonder if anyone else is getting this error, and is there a way around it?Windows7 Pro (SP1) 32-bitThanks in advance!-lc

I have a FrameMaker 8 file with internal hyperlinks. When I test them in FrameMaker they work but when I PDF the file SOME of them are not working. I'm using Acrobat 8 as well.

I think I might have corrupted my settings.sts file in Frame 12. How do I download a new one without re-installing Framemaker?Thanks

Framemaker uses <$filename> for short file name, can we edit this to change appearance? We do not want the short file name of long filename to include the .fm extension can this be removed or modified to make this happen? In compiling our books it would be helpful to not have this extension appear as it then requires us to create extra files without them.

Importing formats from one file into all others in book produces these issues:- failure of (new) paragraph formats to get imported. The name showed up but none of the format contents. Repeat imports did not overwrite bad format;-TOC on reference page has no page number but it shows up in generated TOC. Both the original and imported formats show no page number in TOC paratag.

In Publish after generating an epub which is opened by Adobe Digital Editions one is presented by a dialogue box which says: "[ebook name] is not open from library, would you like to copy it to library?" Underneath this is a tick box which says "Don't show this alert again". However, there are only two  options: Copy to library or Cancel and the dialogue doesn't remember the choice if one selects "Cancel".So, my only option is to Add to the library?

My computer was just updated. I now have Win 7 on a 64 bit system. Tech. Comm. Suite 4 was installed on it. My apps run fine, but I cannot update FM11. When I use the Product Updates from the splash screen, the extracted .exe file opens a blank dialog and does nothing. When I use Help > Updates, the Application Manager runs until I finally use Task Manager to shut it off, usually after 10 minutes. My co-workers computer updates in next-to-no-time.On a side-note, I now cannot generate a book with FM components from a ditamap. It generates the files, but the TOC and Index are empty, and it won't create the book file.HELP!
