FrameMaker

I've run into an odd scenario. I have several chapters (separate FM Documents) in my book. The first chapter in my book has the Chapter Numbering set to 1:All other chapters are set to "Continue Numbering from Previous Chapter in Book." After updating the book, when I open each Chapter (FM document), the chapter number shown is correct: the first numbered as Chapter 1, the second as Chapter 2, etc. The chapter numbers in the TOC are also correct. When I convert the book to PDF (Save as PDF or Publish), however, the numbering is reset, with the first chapter being Chapter 0, with the subesequent Chapters numbered sequencially from there. When I open the chapters (FM documents) to check, they still show the correct numbering. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I can't find any reason for the the numbering to change during the PDF generation process.

I'm working on a function to clone the case of replacement text (change).  I can make many of the decisions on how to clone the replacement text (e.g., all caps, initial caps each word, or initial caps first word, etc.) based on the pgf[style].name.  However, the body text in our documents (chpara0, chsubpara1, etc.) start with a title followed by a period, then more paragraph text.  The first sentence (pgf title) is identified by a variable that includes <$chapnum> and the Paragraph Designer identifies the Position as "Start of Paragraph."  If my found text occurs in this section of the paragraph, I need to clone the change text so each word is an initial capital letter (i.e., title caps).    I've looked over a number of posts to this forum, but haven't run across anything that indicates how to identify this text from within a script. 

I want to create an enlarged PDF file with crop marks from my book using ExtentScript.For the enlarged output of the PDF file I found in the documentation the properties FS_PageHeight and FS_PageWidth.In the script I entered the desired sizes 222*291 mm in Metric specifications. But the size of the PDF file does not change.All other properties are taken over. Hi Community, I have many .fm documents and I have combined them all to make a book.I found some the cross-reference link missing bold in the pdf after printing the book, even though it was set up. (It only happens for books, not when printing separate files)Eg: The format of the cross-reference style.<Bold><~Reference><$paranum>, <$paratext> How to fix this error to keep property of cross-reference link when print book?

This should be simple. I understand how to create a graphics frame on the reference page and use the advanced tab of the paragraph designer to apply the graphic in the frame above the paragraph. I need to apply a different graphic based on the conditional text selection. I can't conditionalize the graphics frame, but I should be able to conditionalize table rows. According to this post: https://community.adobe.com/t5/framemaker-discussions/table-on-reference-page/m-p/12991444#M75070 - I should be able to insert a text frame inside the graphics frame and insert a table inside the text frame, insert my graphics inside the table and conditionalize the table rows (FM 2019) and that SHOULD work. But when I insert the text frame, the option to insert a table is grayed out. What am I missing or is there a more simple solution?

When using the Save as PDF or Publish options, the @ symbol and fullstop in URLs are replaced by the ` (grave) and ' (apostrophy) characters, respectively.  In some cases, where the text is bold, spaces are replaced by the > character. Where the < and > characters are used, they are replaced by a triangle and square, respectively.This doesn't happen when Printing to PDF.I've not run into this issue before, but am using a different front (Montserrat). Could this be an issue with the font when generaing PDF? Do I need to change something in the Publish Settings?Much appreciated.

Hello,In the PDF review process, FM asks me to enter the email address of the reviewers.But on this window I can enter only one address after the other. How to enter by example a list of 50 email addresses in one go ? 

Two years ago I migrated my template from using the Lucida family created by Charles Bigelow (which I met personally in the 1990ies) to the more Uniccode savvy Noto family for the main text elements (body, lists, tables etc). In particular I wanted to use the condensed variation in tables. I never got problems within FrameMaker: When creating a PDF via PDFL then the text areas with this font are blank - but use space. Recently I again was trapape the miniTOC did not appear in PDF. I had not correctly updated my styles and hence the Noto Sans Condensed dragon spit fire. Creating the PDF via the Distiller route presents something, but this is garbage (not just a font substitution)This is independent of SaveAs or Publish. In the PDF the font Noto Sans Cond is not listed at all - hence it is not found in Windows font folder (where all the fonts reside) - or there is another reason for this. My personal circumvention of the Noto Sans Condensed problem: Use Noto Sans and apply stretch 85%

I've recently converted a FM2020 document to PDF by printing to a PDF printer. Had the following problems and would appreciate recommendations. Thanks so much.   - The document includes a .png image with a transparent background. Although the background appears transparent in FM, in the PDF it is not (surrounded by a white box);   - None of the external hyperlinks in the document are in the PDF. I know I could insert these in the PDF after the conversion but I don't have Acrobat currently and would prefer not to have to take this step.

IMHO it was a good idea to replace the distiller route by the PDFL route for creating PDFs from FrameMaker. However, there is still room for improvements. In particular, I and others miss the handling of the pdfmark operator via PDFL. ShlomoPerets provides a great set of functions based on this Acrobat feature, which currently requires to use the Distiller route - an interruption in the daily process using the PDFL route.PDFL seems to be Adobe's proprietary library implementation - not an implementation of the world-wide used PDF library from Thomas Merz . This library supports the pdfmark operator by a mechanism called blocks. Please vote on FRMAKER-13349 See also this request in the pre-release forum concerning named destinations.

I haven't used FrameMaker since 2012. I'm inserting updates from a "Subject Matter Expert" and I can't get pages where there aren't any changes to look like they did in the previous edition of the document. Here's what the previous edition looked like:Now, here I am, having made changes in earlier pages, and I can't get the paragraph "Set U Slider Tab, see Fig. 14." back onto the same page as the previous paragraph(s) and Figure 13.This next image is where the rest of the offending content spills onto the next page, despite my best efforts:I remember (and have re-learned) enough about FrameMaker to experiment with the different settings in Paragraph Designer (spacing above and below paragraphs, Pagination, Keep With Previous/Next, Start at top of column/page, yadayadayada, but I can't get this stuff to behave.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

One of the major limitations I've encountered in running FrameMaker 2020 on Windows 11/ARM is that the Extendscript Toolkit will not run. This is apparently a permanent issue, as the ESTK won't be updated for 64-bit architectures.I see that the "correct" path forward is to move to the Extendscript Debugger under VS Code. Having not used Visual Studio in a decade, I have no idea how to proceed.So ... instead of possibly clearing a morning to investigate, I thought I'd put up a flare here to find out how to deploy VS Code for FM Extendscript development. 🙂TIA!-Alan 

Hi everyone,I'm using FrameMaker version 17.0.2 to write in structured (DITA 1.3). I wonder if there's a way to customize a list of selectable values for a specific attribute, such as a product, and associate it with a particular DITA map file. However, I don't want these changes to affect every file or map in FrameMaker. Could someone help me with this?Other tools, like Oxygen, allow you to create a subject scheme map and link it to a specific dita map. This makes it simple to choose attribute values from a predefined list.

I have had two major ongoing issues since upgrading to Framemaker 2022 from 2020. The first I have found a workaround for, although I am still trying to figure out the reason, the second is below. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem or has a solution.  I work on a User Guide that has a healthy catalog of paragraph styles and we do utilize the reference page for a feature on the advanced tab of the paragraph designer tool.  Here is what the settings look like (first two images). The third image is that paragraph style as it appears in FM (as it should). The second is how it looks when I publish a PDF for web viewing. Notice the notched left and right upper corners. I have used the reference page to adjust the Heading1 background bar, which is the selected setting in Frame Above Pfg in the advanced tab of this paragraph design element. It has not solved the problem. I have a ticket with Adobe, but have not yet had success in troubleshooting

I have a series of separate documents that we want to publish to HTML5. I need to be able to deliver them in a single zip file. To make this work, do I need to combine these documents into a single FM file (a very long one) and then generate the zip?

Hello,I have created an empty template (With Times New Roman font).Then I have opened a Word file in FM (this Word file is with Calibri font). So FM creates one FM files with the content of the Word file (I can see Calibri Font).Then on the FM file opened I make File/Import/Format and applied the template format on this FM file, but it does not changed the font for this FM file  (I am always with the same font as in the Word file, ie : Calibri Font).Why the File /Import/Format does not have changed the font ? 

I lost my Help settings. One thing that I have not been able to recreate is the hierarchical Navigation Panel. It took all my Heading levels and flattened them so they are all at the same level.  Please advise.

Hi mam, I have created and  took output as pdf from FM file.. but the pdf not generating the bookmarks properly...how and where to do proper settings for generating the PDF file along with bookmarks which is extracting headings from fm file. Is there any session covered for this! Kindly support

Hi Community,After finding out why my context points didn't work (tab vs space in the .h file), we're making the jump from FM17 to FM 19 (2022).I use a mix of .png and .jpg graphics in my documentation (depending if I created them or our graphic designer did).In our HTML5 output, FM has made some of the png files into svg (with the png embedded). This is happening at seemingly random spots.My warnings, cautions and notes are using png files for the graphic at the insertion point, followed by the text. This aligns the top edge of the graphic with the top of the text.There can be two notes under one another and one will change to svg while the other stays as png. The main problem is where the svg change happens, it aligns the text on the bottom edge of the graphic, as opposed to the top. I've already tried ticking and unticking things in the publish settings to no avail. Does anyone have any pointers?

Hello,I have opened 5 FM files. So I have 5 tabs opened.I have created a template with tags.I would like to apply the template on all opened FM files (5 files) in one go. How to do this ? Because actually, I am obliged to do File/Import/Format, but for one file only. So I am obliged to do the same for each FM file opened.

Does FrameMaker support a "macro" functionality similar to what MS Word provides?  The only mention of "macros" in FrameMaker help seem to relate to HTML conversion (whatever that is).  I want to be able to automate simple tasks like special-pasting some text and setting the paragraph style.  For example, right now I have about a dozen Level 5 sections to copy and paste into FrameMaker.  So I have to copy the heading in Word, switch to FM, then do a Ctrl+Shift+v, hit "t" for "Text", then "Enter", and then open the Paragraph Catalog, click on "Level 5", and close the Paragraph Catalog (due to space limitations on-screen).  It would be a nice timesaver to have those steps assigned to a macro where all I have to do is press a couple keys.

I use FrameMaker 9.0p237When I create a PDF from a FrameMaker book, the bookmarks are misplaced in the PDF. For example, in my Frame file, I have:Chapter Title A.Heading 1 a..Heading 2 aChapter Title B.Heading 1 b..Heading 2 bBut, when I create the PDF, some of the chapters' bookmarks appear as:Chater Title AChapter Title B.Heading 1 a..Heading2 a.Heading 1 b..Heading 2 bThis doesn't happen for every chapter, but it does happen consistently for the same chapters each time I create a pdf.What is wrong with my FrameMaker file that would cause this?
