Dear fellow FrameMaker scripting geeks,I am creating graphic objects (rectangles) in FrameMaker to make the content look 'boxed' without having to revert to 1-cell tables. My script is creating rectangles on the page with the right location and dimensions to make the content look boxed. So far, so good. But when I have a filled box, I need to push it to the back after creating it. And although I can do this for a single box using the Fcode for the GraphicsSendToBack command, this turns out to be very unreliable when I have a number of boxes in the same document.Does anyone know an alternative method to make the new rectangles move to the back of the page so that the actual content becomes visible again after creating the boxes ?Many thanks for any ideas you might have.Jang

Old scenario:Using FrameMaker 11, I create B&W objects(CGMs) generated in ISODraw with a black text (content) and color specific text (file name for editing purposes) in the object, (color is 194 115 143, a magenta-like color)In FrameMaker 11 the graphic would be imported, and it would show the color text.When ready to publish, I would go to view/color/views and switch to view 2, which would move 23.8-54.8-43.8-0 to the cutout box from the normal box.This would ‘hide’ (turn the text white) the color text within FrameMaker as well as the color text in the objects. And of course upon creating a PDF, the color would not show.The problem: New computer, new latest version of FrameMaker. Now when I follow those same steps, working on the 2011 version documents the color remains on newly inserted objects, but not on un-touched objects that were there from the 2011 version. I need to learn how to produce accessible PDFs from Framemaker. Hi,I am new to framemaker. I got this template to work on.So I am tring to add 10 line space between tabels. When I press enter key after a table is added i get another dialog box which shown below to insert a table. How do i remove this format to give spaces between tables. Thanks in advance.

I used framemaker 15-20 years ago before it was dropped from the mac. I have one file (small, 91K) from an old project I’d like to examine. Would anyone have framemaker on a windows or other computer, and could extract the text from it (save as MS word, txt or rtf)? I have attached the file, email me at charris@bu.edu, I had to use the file extension 'raw' instead of frame because does not support frame filetype; and using 'fm' I was told the contents didn't match.  Ok.... raw didn't work.   I tried .mif.Thanks. One of my scripts requires entering a unicode character, but I have not yet found the method to do so. I need to use the oDoc.AddText method, which requests the second parameter to be a text string. I can enter a unicode character in the script, but it needs to be pulled from an attribute which carries the unicode number for the character. So how do I go from unicode number to an actual character to be pushed into my doc?Maybe this is trivial, but I am not getting any results with my trials so far. I have tried using the String.fromCharCode(  ) but that results in a question mark (indicating an unknown character).Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm working with a book and have a 2 page appendix that I'm now unable to edit or save. It states "Cannot lock this file for your use. Your changes to it may conflict with other users.I can't save any edits or save as under another name. There are no .lck files on computer. All files are on local disk. Any suggestions?Thanks in advance.

I am using FrameMaker 2020 and have tried several times to use the File > Translate > Export to XLIFF 1.2. Each time FrameMaker completely closed before converting the documents into XLIFF and creating the translation package (ZIP). FrameMaker did not show the XLIFF Conversion Report and did not show any other error messages. I tried using the Export to XLIFF 1.2 option on both a book file and on individual files from the book, but saw the same results each time. I am able to Save As or Print the book to a PDF file successfully, so I don't think that file errors are necessarily causing the problem. I have not yet found a troubleshooting resource for this issue. I followed the instructions from the Adobe Help site, found here: Adobe FrameMaker. I am using FrameMaker in unstructured content mode. Can anyone share any experience with this issue or suggest troubleshooting steps to take? 

New user here...the body of the author's content contains hard returns at THE END OF EACH LINE in every paragraph. Not sure why they did this, but is there an easy way to remove hard returns in an entire paragraph at once? Maybe using find/replace? TIA...

Hello. I use FM2019 to maintain books comprising documents which contain several different conditions for customer-specific output variants. My deliverables are PDF.These documents include tables. Within a table it is common for one or more specific rows to be entirely conditionalized (at table row level, not cell content level) for one or more customers. When Show Condition Indicators is checked, conditionalized table row cell borders are cross-hatched, as expected.Prior to PDF creation I set the appropriate Show/Hide Condition Text settings to show only the material for the appropriate customer, and uncheck the Show Condition Indicators box. For tables,  the cross-hatching is now hidden.To indicate document content changes in the PDF, I have previously applied change bars manually (Format->Style->Change Bar) and then post-publication I’ve cleared them all en masse, starting the next iteration of the document with a clean slate. I updated the Adobe Technical Communication Suite to the current version 2022 and I am not able to activate Acrobat. The Adobe Reader with reduced functions is activated. When I want to use a classic Acrobat function like edit or print output preview, then the dialog for purchasing Adobe Acrobat Pro appears.Until now these functions were included in the Adobe Technical Communication Suite.Regards,Rainer 

We use Master Page Maps extensively in our documents. All of them are applied to body pages based on an Element appearing on the page.We have a Master Page called IconographyOn our StructMasterPageMaps table, we have  rule to apply this Master Page whenever the ConvensionsHeading (Top-level) Element appears on the page:On the Body Page, we have added this Element:However, when we use the Apply Master Pages command, the Iconography Master Page isn't applied. To ensure there aren't any typos, the Element Name was copied and pasted from the EDD into the MPM table. Likewise, the Master Page Name was copied and pasted from the Master Page Name window. All our other Master Page Mapping rules (15 of them) are being applied correctly, except this one. The Console window also doesn't show any errors. Any suggestions?

The following steps cause FrameMaker to crash:1. With no files open, use File > New > Book to create a new book. The Structure View shows one empty NoName element.2. Create or open an EDD that defines a container named Book that is valid as a highest-level element.3. Go back to the book and import element definitions from the EDD.4. Select the NoName element in the Structure View.5. Use Ctrl-3 or Element > Change Element to attempt to change NoName to Book. FrameMaker crashes.Rebooting my machine and deleting the appropriate subdirectory of %appdata%\Adobe\FrameMaker do not help.This crash occurs in FM 2019, FM 2020, and FM 2022, but not in FM 12, FM 2015, and FM 2017.

We have a master page with a listing of the icons used in a manual and what each icon means, e.g.In the top-level Element for the book (TrainingManual), we have an Attribute that specified which product the manual relates to. Depending on this Attribute value, the icons on the above Master Page changes. There are context rules against the Element used to insert the images. However, these aren't changing on the master page. If they are added on a Body Page, the correct image is shown. Do Context Rules against an Element not apply to Master Pages but only to Body Pages? 

I'm trying to apply Master Pages in a Structured book using Attributes. In the Book, I have an Attribute (TRMProduct) with the options of "Exo" and "Advanced". In the Master Pages for the documents in the book, there is a CoverPage_Exo and a CoverPage_Adv set up.I want to assign the corresponding Master Page based on the value of the TRMProduct Attribute on the book.I've tried using the Attribute name, Attribute Value and Context columns in the StructMasterPageMaps, but can't figure how how they're supposed to work.I have tried the following:Attribute Name: TRMProductAttribute Value: "Exo"Context: *<TrainingManualbut that doesn't appear to be correct.Any suggestions? The Help file doesn't offer much on the topic either.

Brand new FM user here... I'm currently revising an older FM book which contains 388 individual files and putting it into FM2020. The Master Pages for each file should essentially be identical. Instead of changing all 388 sets of Master Pages individually for each file, is there a way to change all of them at once? This would save a large amount of time and repetition. Thanks in advance!

Have I overlooked something or is the fancy button brand new? Looks like some kind of AEM publish connector... or something?

In the post FDK Question - Programmatic Alt Image Text Description Insertion a property of Anchored Frames is mentioned. However, I do not find any documentation about this. Question from an uninformed person: FP_ObjectAttributes is listed in the constants (fapidefs.h FDK header file) - but it is not mentioned at all in the FDK Programmers Reference (FM-15, 16, 17). In FM  help / UG only the Alternate and Actual texts are mentioned - and no explanation, what's the difference of these two is. No hint, what the items in the Object Attributes dialogue for "New or changed Attribute" are good for. ► Can somebody explain me the difference betwen Alternate and Actual text? ► Can somebody explain me    the purpose of the second halve of the dialogue ("New or changed Attribute")?

Hi, I looked through the search results but did not find this exact problem, hopefully someone out there can help...I'm creating a large mapfold document with pages 26" x 30" - in Framemaker everything looks great, but when I render to pdf, the bottom 20% of each page is blank/white. It does not seem to be related to areas with images, as it blanks out areas with only wording as well. It happens with every page in the document, and it has happened across multiple different documents. Essentially, I cannot render usable pdfs from Framemaker.I have tried printing to pdf, publishing to pdf (via Frame and Distiller separately), and even imported my supervisor's Settings.sts file, but nothing has resolved it. Any tips out there?

I have an original installation pack of FrameMaker8 but my new PC has no disc reader.Is it possible to down-load an installation file and use my existing key?I am now a pensioner and cannot afford a subscription version.

I have a page with overflow text, plenty of room, botht he problem box and the following box are set to autoconnect, none of the styles are set to keep with anything, no manual page breaks are active, I've tried messing with table keep with numbers, reapplying master pages, and a few other things. I'm stumped. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it? 

We need to be able to include Alt Text for images to enable customers to comply with accessibility requirements. We acquire the text from a database and/or spreadsheet using our software and need to place it in the FrameMaker/PDF file using the FDK. In reviewing the FDK documentation, it is not apparent what the function might be. Could you please let us know how we may use the FDK to insert Alt Text content for images?

I am messing around with DITA templates for FrameMaker 2022 and have run into an issue. While I can make FrameMaker import an edited template, designs on reference pages are not being imported. I suspect this has something to do with the edd, but do I have to edit the edd simultaneously with editing the template files?  

Since there is no possibility to make the label of a Radiobutton use multiple lines, I try to place the second line as Statictext below the group of radio buttons.
