Hi Framemaker 2019 .sts Framemaker 2020 .sts Is this feature no longer available to me?
As of now, FrameMaker still ships with a dialogue for creating standard templates. These templates are somewhat dated and the dialogue can't be modified.- How difficult is it to create a an alternative template chooser? Which works like the existing one more or less? Perhaps made in Robohelp or "something"?
Can hide conditional tag automatically in graphic by using Framemaker?
Hello. I am running FrameMaker 2022. When the Welcome screen / page displays, it does not contain the default informatin, i.e.: Create a New Doc buttons, demos and white papers, and so on. Instead, it displays a wierd assortment of info. I'm attaching a screen shot with this post. I suspect that I need to tweak a default link or something. Not sure. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks, Roy Roy [This is a public forum. For your protection, your email address has been removed by a moderator.]
I am using Framemaker with a .MIF file. This file has a lot of custom formatting. Sometimes text is bold, sometimes it is italic ... here is the issue:We have software that creates a .MIF file to use in Framemaker, and that MIF file has a bunch of paragraphs tagged with very specific paragraph tag names. We have a template that has every paragraph tag in these MIF files we export defined. The problem is when there is a paragraph that has the entire content of the paragraph as a specific character override. If the text of the entire paragraph is bold, but the imported paragraph format does not have that style, then it removes the custom bold style. If there are multiple styles, then it leaves them in What should I do? I put this into ChatGPT and got this answer: Adjust your template: If the imported MIF files consistently use specific character styles, you could modify your template to include those character styles in the definition of the corresponding paragraph styles. I am attaching 2 screens: One is the body page with the missing image, and the other is the image that is on the Master page for this chapter.Any hints/advice to help spolve this would be great!Thank you.Cheers,Elizabeth
Hi all, I'm a rookie FrameMaker user and I adopted my former colleague's Ditamaps, XML's, etc. Now when I open a few of the Ditamaps, this happens (see image). Am I in trouble? Thank you in advance!
Hi,I am currently trying to modify a TOC for a book I'm working on. I have tried all the methods that are in the help locations, as well as the relevant messages in the community pages. Nothing is working. I am attaching a screen showing the issue with all the page numbers appearing in roman numerals. Can someone please help me with this? Thank you.Elizabeth
You all do know good old Equation Editor. However, these equations end up as graphics in published output (e.g. HTML5). So I tried to use the new thingy Insert > MathML Equation (FM-15, 16, 17) But I get the error message "Java run time environment (JRE) not found". There is C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_231 on my system. → Why does FM not find it?
Hi,I thought I had sent this post a little while ago but I don't see it, so I'm re-adding it.I have a book file that has 4 empty pages in one file. I have tried various ways to delete them, as per the help information that is available. They have not been deleted. What is also strange is that 3 of these pages has a footer with the chapter name and page number, and 1 page does not. And of course the start of the next chapter has an incorrect page number because the book counted the blank pages. What am I missing? Any help would be great!Thank you.Cheers,Elizabeth
Our EDD is structured with a top level Chapter element that consists of a CoverPage element, followed by a Section element. The CoverPage element is used on the first page of the chapter, with a specific Master Page layout. The Section element starts on a new page and use the default Left and Right Master Pages. The text frames on the CoverPage, Left and Right pages all use Flow A with Autoconnect. The text frames on the Left and Right pages have a Side Head. The Coverpage does not. I\On the Master Pages, these are setup - no issues. On the Body Pages, all pages using the Left and Right Master Pages have the Side Head setting applied (correct). However, the text frames on the first page (using the CoverPage Master Page) are also applying the Side Head, even though it's not applied on the Master Page. When the text frame properties on the first page is overwritten to remove the Side Head, it is removed from all the pages, even those using the Left and Right
I have a 220-page chapter that starts with two pages in portrait orientation followed by 17 disconnected pages in landscape orientation that I carefully added by following a tutorial, which included applying a landscape master page. I just noticed that I can't edit anything on the disconnected pages (tables) or the 200 portrait pages that follow. I can edit the text on pages 1 and 2.
Using FM2020, structured with DITA.When a <menucascade> element is inserted, it appears on its own separate line in the authoring view, whereas a simple <uicontrol> element appears inline: I would prefer it if the <menucascde> appeared inline, in a similar manner to the <uicontrol> Note: when the PDF is generated, the menucascude correctly appears inline (i.e. this issue is restricted to the editing/authoring within Framemaker).
When I click in the WYSIWYG view in a cell the focus automattically jumps to the end of the cell below the automatic inserted child. That means I always have to click in the tree behind the element in which I want to write or to use the arrow-keys. See the video below. Is there any way to change this behaviour?
Hello to the community,it seems, that FM - even FM2022 - does not correctly or even not at all overprint.I use warnings in which black text runs over colored backrounds. I've tried everything, but couldn't manage, that the text is not knocked out. What me also wonders: When creating a new, blank document, the standard black color is set to knockout ("Aussparen" in the German version). This is fundamentally wrong - you would never set black to knockout. This color is mainly used for text - and you would never want text to be knocked out (except in some rare cases where you want a maximum deep black).I created new colors (e.g. black overprint) set it to cmyk 0 0 0 100 or 0 0 0 99 and to overprint: but no success. I also set the text above boxes in the three cmy colors 100 0 0 0, 0 100 0 0 and 0 0 100 0: but always the same result: the text is knocked out.I also tried many different PDF settings, without and with using Distiller within the "Save as PDF" process and also "Printing to PDF"
Hi, When I try to take pdf (File> Save as Review PDF> Send Through Email) of any FM file, I get the below error in Adobe FM and Adobe Acrobat applications, and PDF not generates. Also, in the log file that generates at the time of pdf conversion, I get the below error. So, I tried the below steps to fix the issue, but I couldn't:Uninstall FM and reinstall it.Uninstall Adobe acrobat and reinstall it.Delete All open sans fonts (As I get the error for Open Sans font in the log file) and reinstall them again. Can someone guide me on my mistakes, as I could not figure them out?
Does anyone know of some good tutorials for InDesign that are geared to FrameMaker users? Links would be sincerely appreciated!
My current TOC shows three levels; I only want to show levels 1 and 2. Is there a way to change it (reference page?) without having to reformat a new TOC? Thanks!
Does anyone have any idea when FrameMaker will support ARM processors?
We have a number of separate training manuals (FM books) that we want to consolidate into a single manual (FM Book). To identify where each manual starts, we want to add some sort of "Section Heading". I tried using Groups, but can't seem to include the Group Title in the generated Table of Content. I tried using Folders, but then the <$chapnum> system variable (used for the chapter numbers each manual) isn't updating (Chapter is disabled in the Numbering Properties). I did notice that Section is enabled in the Numbering Properties when I have Folders, but the Chapter number is still disabled. I tried the FM Help file, but, like most Help files, it doesn't tell you really anything useful. Short of adding a 'dummy' FM file before the first chapter in each manual with the "Section Heading", is there another, better way to achieve this? This is what I'm trying achive:FM Book:Generated TOC:
I have the building block to to increment in each "chapter". But I need to move the chapters around. My first chapter block is S:<n=1>.<0>< =0>\t, and the next is S:<n=2>.<0>< =0>\t and so on.I am using 1 Heading style instead of a chapter style. Any way to automate it so I do not have to change the "n=?" numbering manually for each file?
Hi All. Using FrameMaker 16.0.4 on Windows 10. I'm currently having an issue with cross references when I generate HTML5 topics. As an example, I have an FM file with multiple H1s and H2s, along with cross references between those headings. When I generate HTML5, H1s and H2s get split into separate HTML topics (as defined in the Publish settings). On themost part this works without any issues, however if I have a H1 or H2 that uses one or commas in the title, the cross reference pojnts the "wrong" filename and shows as a broken link in the HTML. For example, a H2 with the title "Components, Capacity, and Resiliency" generates the file "Components__44__Capacity__44__and_Resiliency.htm" - the TOC uses the correct file reference, but cross references use "Components,_Capacity,_and_Resiliency.htm". Any ideas on how I can resolve this?
I have some UI suggestions on the Adobe Tracker. Recently I got these messages: Issue - https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-12708 Version updated to 'FM2022' Version updated from 'FM20222' to an empty value Issue - https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-12617 Version updated to 'FM2022' Version updated from 'FM20222' to an empty value But what do they mean? I would expect @Winfried Reng to have recieved one as well, as he has commented on one of the suggestions...What is an "empty value" in this respect?
Hi, I am in the midst of trying to format the TOC for a book. I am able to get a L1 HeadTOC entries to look the way I want, but the Chapter TitleTOC and remaining chapter names and L1Head- Same PageTOC aren't changing. What am I missing?I am including screenshots of the Reference page and the TOC. Thank you.Cheers,Elizabeth
I have a client who has an enormous amount of documentation in FM2022. Recently we have started getting this error message when we try to print a book. When we do a "Save as PDF" and have Distiller on, things seem to work better, but not always. When we print to Adobe PDF FM invariably quits the process with this message. I have tried supplying every thinkable version of Courier - makes no change. I have tried making a folder with Courier fonts and haves set them to always embed in Distiller - makes no change. I have tried different variations in PDF settings with rely on systems fonts or not - makes no change. I have looked into the maker.ini - and I suspect this is where the culprit is, but I can't figure out what to change. It looks ok regarding the renaming of Courier. But then again - I may be wrong. Does anybody here have a suggestion as to where to look?.. -Bjørn
