FrameMaker

The following steps cause FrameMaker to crash:1. With no files open, use File > New > Book to create a new book. The Structure View shows one empty NoName element.2. Create or open an EDD that defines a container named Book that is valid as a highest-level element.3. Go back to the book and import element definitions from the EDD.4. Select the NoName element in the Structure View.5. Use Ctrl-3 or Element > Change Element to attempt to change NoName to Book. FrameMaker crashes.Rebooting my machine and deleting the appropriate subdirectory of %appdata%\Adobe\FrameMaker do not help.This crash occurs in FM 2019, FM 2020, and FM 2022, but not in FM 12, FM 2015, and FM 2017.

We have a master page with a listing of the icons used in a manual and what each icon means, e.g.In the top-level Element for the book (TrainingManual), we have an Attribute that specified which product the manual relates to. Depending on this Attribute value, the icons on the above Master Page changes. There are context rules against the Element used to insert the images. However, these aren't changing on the master page. If they are added on a Body Page, the correct image is shown. Do Context Rules against an Element not apply to Master Pages but only to Body Pages? 

I'm trying to apply Master Pages in a Structured book using Attributes. In the Book, I have an Attribute (TRMProduct) with the options of "Exo" and "Advanced". In the Master Pages for the documents in the book, there is a CoverPage_Exo and a CoverPage_Adv set up.I want to assign the corresponding Master Page based on the value of the TRMProduct Attribute on the book.I've tried using the Attribute name, Attribute Value and Context columns in the StructMasterPageMaps, but can't figure how how they're supposed to work.I have tried the following:Attribute Name: TRMProductAttribute Value: "Exo"Context: *<TrainingManualbut that doesn't appear to be correct.Any suggestions? The Help file doesn't offer much on the topic either.

Brand new FM user here... I'm currently revising an older FM book which contains 388 individual files and putting it into FM2020. The Master Pages for each file should essentially be identical. Instead of changing all 388 sets of Master Pages individually for each file, is there a way to change all of them at once? This would save a large amount of time and repetition. Thanks in advance!

Have I overlooked something or is the fancy button brand new? Looks like some kind of AEM publish connector... or something?

In the post FDK Question - Programmatic Alt Image Text Description Insertion a property of Anchored Frames is mentioned. However, I do not find any documentation about this. Question from an uninformed person: FP_ObjectAttributes is listed in the constants (fapidefs.h FDK header file) - but it is not mentioned at all in the FDK Programmers Reference (FM-15, 16, 17). In FM  help / UG only the Alternate and Actual texts are mentioned - and no explanation, what's the difference of these two is. No hint, what the items in the Object Attributes dialogue for "New or changed Attribute" are good for. ► Can somebody explain me the difference betwen Alternate and Actual text? ► Can somebody explain me    the purpose of the second halve of the dialogue ("New or changed Attribute")?

Hi, I looked through the search results but did not find this exact problem, hopefully someone out there can help...I'm creating a large mapfold document with pages 26" x 30" - in Framemaker everything looks great, but when I render to pdf, the bottom 20% of each page is blank/white. It does not seem to be related to areas with images, as it blanks out areas with only wording as well. It happens with every page in the document, and it has happened across multiple different documents. Essentially, I cannot render usable pdfs from Framemaker.I have tried printing to pdf, publishing to pdf (via Frame and Distiller separately), and even imported my supervisor's Settings.sts file, but nothing has resolved it. Any tips out there?

I have an original installation pack of FrameMaker8 but my new PC has no disc reader.Is it possible to down-load an installation file and use my existing key?I am now a pensioner and cannot afford a subscription version.

I have a page with overflow text, plenty of room, botht he problem box and the following box are set to autoconnect, none of the styles are set to keep with anything, no manual page breaks are active, I've tried messing with table keep with numbers, reapplying master pages, and a few other things. I'm stumped. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it? 

We need to be able to include Alt Text for images to enable customers to comply with accessibility requirements. We acquire the text from a database and/or spreadsheet using our software and need to place it in the FrameMaker/PDF file using the FDK. In reviewing the FDK documentation, it is not apparent what the function might be. Could you please let us know how we may use the FDK to insert Alt Text content for images?

I am messing around with DITA templates for FrameMaker 2022 and have run into an issue. While I can make FrameMaker import an edited template, designs on reference pages are not being imported. I suspect this has something to do with the edd, but do I have to edit the edd simultaneously with editing the template files?  

Since there is no possibility to make the label of a Radiobutton use multiple lines, I try to place the second line as Statictext below the group of radio buttons. Hello! We are using the Technical Communication Suite on a subscription basis (3-year agreement).We are about to renew our agreement, but the version of FrameMaker that is included in the new TCS is not supported by some of our third-party tools yet.Would it be possible to keep working with the version of FrameMaker that we are currently using for a while before switching to the new TCS? Thank you

I know this has been addressed before but I'm on a short break and I can't find the answer...   One of my students is using two screens (the other is a 4K display) and when he clicks the Open menu, the Window menu opens. I remember this being an issue with the resolution on the other screen, but I cannot for the life of me remember what I need to do for him. Does anyone remember off the top of their heads?   ~Barb

Hi,I hope someone can help me with this issue.I am working on a book and the numbering style for the footers is such that even page numbers are to appear on the left side, and the title of the chapter is to appear on the right side. Conversely the odd page numbers are to appear on the right side  and the title of the chapter is to appear on the left side. Some of the chapters in the book have the correct footer formatting and some do not. I have checked the Format > Page Layout > Pagination and compared the settings for the footers that are ok, with those that are not.  The setting is Double Sided  > 1st Page Side > Right. This setting is also the same for the incorrect footers.  I have saved the chapter(s) and updated the book, but the issue remains.Thank you for any help. Cheers,Elizabeth 

Right now I've got a big book with some errant tags creating duplicate entries (working on a solution to that), but I forgot to add a paragraph style to the TOC when I created it. It's only in the book four times, and I'd love to be able to manually add these for just this one time, because correcting the errant parts takes over half an hour. Any way to do this?

Hey folks, lately, FrameMaker has started to act weird (yes, even weirder than usual), on my colleague's and my laptop. This is what happens: when I scroll through a document, either with mouse wheel or PgUp/PgDn, FrameMaker will randomly jump back to the previous page. Sometimes that's just mildly irritating, sometimes outright annoying, when I'm doing some more delicate text editing.AFAIK there hasn't been an update which could've caused the issue. Could it be down to some checkbox we ticked accidentaly, or some other setting that has crept into our template? Thanks in advance for your support,Alex

My TOC creation is set up to create hyperlinks (as is the index). When I create a TOC or Update the book, the Index links work fine but the PDF links for the TOC don't work and Ctrl-Alt clicking on the TOC items in FM gives me an error message (attached). Any ideas on how to fix this?Thanks!   

Since the end of the last week FM-16, FM-15 and Acrobat 2017 required a new sign in, although I did not sign out anywhere. ► Have you encountered similar effects? ► What may be the reason for this behaviour?

I have FrameMaker Version 17.0.1.305.   I can save text changes to XML files.  When I try to scale an image, the image size will change, and I can save and close.   Everything seems fine.  When I re-open the file, however, the scaling changes I made are not there.  It's like I never changed the image size.  I don't understand it.  Please help.  Thanks!

The new Framemaker version seems to have a filter problem with cgm graphics:FM 2022 (17.0.1.305) The previous Framemaker version did a fine job:FM 2020 (16.0.4.1062) What can I do to solve this issue?

Hi Everyone, We using Framemaker 2019 for create documents.On document, The "TS_GTM_REQ12_100" content on the TS is tagging Internal tag (blue color) at the top of the page. However, when hide conditional tag, the content is hidden along with the position of the page break mark being lost. So, section [1.2 Timers and Watchdogs] jump to page 1. How to section [1.2 Timers and Watchdogs] still at page 2 when hide conditional tag (keep Page break)?Best Regard! 

I would like to convert FM2022 files to the FM2020 format. In the FM2022 files none of the new FM2022 features are used. Just good old 2020 wine in a new 2022 bottle. 🙂Is there a workaround? I do have FM2020 on my computer and don't want to upgrade yet. An FM2022 trial version is not an option either.
