FrameMaker

I have read many different posts on this. So, I'm very confussed. On my master page I put a veriable in the footer <Number><$curpagenum>. Then when I go back to the Body page it is displayed on the bottom of the page. I have a working chapter with page numbers, but I can't get just a single page number to work. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Is there some option within Framemaker that will prevent words from hyphenating between pages?  I realize there is an option within the Paragraph Designer > Advanced page that turns hypenation on/off, but I need hyphenation ON but I don't want words to be hyphenated between two adjacent pages. IOW, this is what I do not want:   Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of wa- ----------------- new page --------------- ter. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tum- bling after.   I want "tumbling" hypenated, but I do not want "water" hypenated.   I understand I can manually apply a ESC n s  sequence to prevent "water" from hyphenating, but I was looking for an automated solution to keep words from splitting across pages, rather than manually searching for such instances.  When you are working on a large book, you don't want to have to manually examine the bottom of every page every time you insert new text.

Hi,I know that this specific question has been considered irrelevant in this community, but my client demands that the exported XML file explicitly contains the numbers generated automatically by FrameMaker.The source file is a structured document with several paragraph labels with autonumbering. We cannot easily regenerate the numbering after the export because the autonumber rules are quite complicated (with a lot of resets and gaps in the numbering, so not that "automatic").I have searched several developer guides and read about read/write rules, without success.I assume that these numbers can be retrieved since it can be done when exporting to html (checking the box about autonumbering) or rtf formats.What would be the read/write rule to get the autonumber of an element 'NUME' with a paragraph style having autonumbering ? Thank you in advance for your time and effort.

I need help fine-tuning the appearance of the Responsive HTML.- I want to have Figure captions in the PDF, but not to include the figure numbering in the Help. How do I accomplish this while also using cross-references to the specific graphic, not just to the section that contains it because there can be several graphics in a section. - In the Help, section numbers are numbered except for the Heading 1 - this is because for Heading 1, the number was defined on the Master Page (which creates a problem for numbering in the PDF). I am more concerned with getting rid of the section numbers in the Help.  

I have added THIS PAGE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK pages to numerous manuals, but never added to the very beginning of a book. I am needing to add a blank, non-generated title/copyright page before the generated LOEP pages in my book. I obviously need the text frame, so that I can add content to the title/copyright page(s), and I need to start the first title/copyright page with Roman numeral i (a Right Page, obviously). Currently, in my book's page-numbering properties, I already have the LOEP starting with page i. So, how do I add the new. blank title/copyright page, starting with page i and renumber the first LOEP page as iii. Thanks!

Hi,  I am creating a List of Figures and a List of Tables for my document. Some of my figure and table headings are fairly long, and, the description text in the list continues onto a second line. I placed an extra tab before the <$chapnum> and a nonbreakable hyphen between <$chapnum> and <$pagenum> on my reference page (see below). However, when the text length is such that the number is split between the first and second line, the alignment does not work. Hi,   I'm having issues getting the second line of a TOC to tab to the right of the page, but only when the chapter and page numbers are the only text on the second line. The only way I can get it to appear correcly is if I manually tab to the left of the chapter number. I'd like for this to format automatically if I can. Hi, I am trying to import the S1000D version 2.2 schema in Framemaker. So far unsuccesful. I read about a simple application pack for this version but cannot find it anywhere.Anyone any ideas on how to go about using this version of S1000D in Framemaker? all help is appreciated! Marcel Veenhof

All the numbers in this graphic are svg files, but they are being previewed incorrectly. There is no white background outside of the circles. They print correctly, but the poor preview is misleading. The same svg files are being previewed correctly in InDesign, though. Is it not possible to make FM preview this stuff correctly?  

We've recently updated from FM v12 to v17 (Structured) (I know.. don't get me started 🙂 ) and we're running into an issue with the document headers. For some reason, on of the header fields is changed to Align Center instead of Aligh Right. When you look at the properties is still says Align Right. I'm attaching screenshots of the Master Page from FM12 and what it should look like, and also the converted Master Page from FM17 and the resulting page with the incorrect alignment. I appreciate any advice.

Hi, I have [edited by moderator] copied added existing documents into a new book I'm working on and updated the variables with the relevant information. I looked at the documents that [edited by moderator] I copied from are referenced in both books, and the variables in [edited by moderator] those pre-existing files have also changed the files change, which is not what I wanted or expected to happen. Is there a way to update [edited by moderator] the variables in the copied documents each book and have the 'original' documents files retain their old variables?   Thank you.   Cheers, Elizabeth   

I have a very old version of FrameMaker (7.1), but I guess this question is valid for all versions. In Sweden we write words together, that you English spekers write separately. Example:supply air plenum (3 words)tilluftsplenum (1 word)When I spellcheck and see where "tilluftsplenum" can be hyphenated I gettil-lufts-ple-numCorrect, but not... If the word is hyphenated at the first instance, it should betill-luftsplenumAn extra "l", as "till" has two and "luft" begins with one. So how does FrameMaker fix this? IS there a way to fix this, or do we have to proof read everything?  Just curious.

This may have been covered before, but I couldn't find it online. I am using FrameMaker 16.0.4. How can I review two FrameMaker pages side by side that are in different books and show the word differences between the two? If that's not possible, how can I at least preview both pages side by side? Thanks!

Hi FrameMaker Friends:   I finally gave up on trying to run Fm on my M1 Mac, and now am working like a "normal" user, running FrameMaker on a Windows computer as the Adobe team intended.   What is wrong with my scaling? I'm on Windows 11 and the Fall 2022 release of FrameMaker (though I have seen this occasionally on student computers in the past on earlier versions of Windows and FrameMaker).   Note: small menu bar, giant menu items, smushed rulers, and my catalogs are illegible.    I have tried out multiple display and scale resolutions but I can't figure out how to make this work.  Any ideas?   Thanks in advance, ~Barb

This must be simple fix, because I don't see this covered anywhere in the forum. Why does my PDF from FM 2020 have gridlines? I don't even have gridlines on in the project. Must be missing something simple somewhere...  

Hi,I am in the process of trying to create a new book. I have copied all the files from the pre--existing book and my goal is then to update these files as required. The 'old' book has many variables. I'm trying to edit the variables in the new version, but when I try to edit the variables, they cannot be modified because in the 'old' book they are correct.  Is there an easy way I can update/edit the variables in the new book I'm creating? Thank you. Cheers,Elizabeth  

Hi,In my company has FrameMaker2017 version, but I have a FrameMaker 2020 documents as a template. I try to open templates in 2017 but the error message appears:  Although this appears to be a framemaker document, it can't be opened...Is there any way to open 2020 document by using 2017 version.  PS: I do not have any other version of FrameMaker, only 2017. 

Hi,  I have recently installed RoboScreenCapture v2.0 on Windows 10. When I capture a screenshot, the screen automatically zoom-in. Therefore, the screenshot is not correctly captured.  This issue was not observed on earlier versions of Windows.  Could you please help me resolve this issue? 

In one of our elements, CELLTEXT, we have the following General Rule (<TEXT> | Emphasis | BulletList | NumList | Action | Highlight)*. Another element, SLIDE, can appear only appear once, either as the first element within CELLTEXT before those in the General Rule, or the last element after those in the General Rule. I can change the General Rule to be Slide?,  (<TEXT> | Emphasis | BulletList | NumList | Action | Highlight)* so it can appear first, or  (<TEXT> | Emphasis | BulletList | NumList | Action | Highlight)*, Slide? so it can appears last. Is there a way to combine these into a single General Rule?

Hallo, wenn ich meine FrameMakerdatei abspeichern möchte, habe ich eine Fehlermeldung, die sagt ich soll Adobe kontaktieren. Grafiken werden dann nicht übernommmen und die Datei wird bspw. als Dateiname.fm.45B woran kann das liegen? 

Colleagues, I'm using the FrameMaker Server 2020 REST API on Windows 10, invoking API calls via cURL for rapid prototyping. All works as expected, _except_ when I try to POST a JSON file with parameters for the operation (example operation: creating a publishing task). My cURL command line for creating a task looks something like this:   C:\Users\Administrator>curl -v -H "Content-Type: application/json" -H "X-Access-Token: <token>" http://<system>:<port>/v16/tasks -d @TestTask.json   This (and many other permutations of the "-d" option) yield:   Warning: Couldn't read data from file Warning: "TestTask.json",   Has anybody else encountered this? My JSON appears to be good, and I can invoke the same server calls via Postman and they work using the same JSON data. It may be a Windows/cURL issue, but Google did not provide any solutions.  

Hi,The PS Font appears in the FrameMaker document but it does not appear in the PDF document created with Acrobat Pro DC.The PS Font file can be printed from Windoes Fonts folder without a hassle (without Acrobat), so problem is not in the font itself. I suspect the problem is in Acrobat Distiller, because the font appears correctly in FrameMaker document!Any help with this issue will be appeciated!Iracildo

I have created a feature request for FrameMaker.When using Publish, FrameMaker will automatically create folder for the published output. I created a custom Type 1 font and used this font to create a Character Tag in FrameMaker 2020. I used this Character Tag in several chapters of a book I am finnishing to write. Everything works flawlessly. The custom font appears in the FM document and in the PDF document. Hard to understand is why FM crashes when I apply this Character Tag to a character with DefaultParaFont Tag, for example. FM crashes when the Character Tag is applied to any character!The book is full of this Character Tag, but if I apply a new one FM crashes!I am sad because I would like to publish the book in the next month.Any help will be appreciated!Iracildo
