FrameMaker

So firstly I checked the logs, it said it was not picking up the license, so I needed to sign into my adobe account within the application, I could not do this initially because of error 205, it just kept force quitting the software. I have had an issue like this before and signing in and out usually fixes it in adobe products, but how can I do this if it force quits on opening? Well I found a trick:  Click 'Restore Last Session' button as soon as you open FrameMakerIt ideally should be a fresh install, no sessions on your computer anywhereLeave open the message box and wait for Error 205 message to display, then click OKYou should then get another message box come up saying "Can not Quit" or something like thatNow you should be able to sign in and out of the software and enable the license in the cloud. Other things I did / tried:- Ran the program as administrator- Enabled it in the firewall settings I am not sure if these made a difference or not. A

Hi, I want to delete certain conditional tags for all files in a Book without having to delete the tags file by file.However, I couldn't find an easy batch function in FM interface.With references from other scripts, I wrote this script to delete specified conditional tags in a Book.The script is only available to delete an unused Cond tag you specified, not considering the cases that the tag is used in expressions or applied to the text. Is there a way to easily keep a book in its "older" FM format when editing it with a newer version of FM? This can be done using Save As for each .book and .fm by selecting FM2019 when editing using FM2020, but it looks like the files get upgraded to the newer format when using the standard Save / Save All functions?

Hi once again! I'm using the standalone Index generation, and it's giving me the subtopics nested under the main topics (Topic:subtopic for the markers) but I want the numbers to be a different tag (entires are regular weight, black-colored Arial, and I want the numbers to be bold, red, and italics). Is there a way to force the process to put a return in before the page numbers, or even better to assign them a tag of my choosing during the generation process?  

Only recently I have discovered the directory %appdata%\Adobe\FrameMaker\fmlogs which has subdirectories 16 and higher. ...\16\2022_8_15\ cotains two files FM_Log_1660546056890.log and FM_Log_1660546064347.log with the very same time stamp 2022-08-15 08:48:11 FM_Log_1660546064347.log This seems to log the correspondence with the license server (A) FM_Log_1660546056890.log IMHO this is a (partial) trace of the initialisation process (B), as there are entries such as [INFO]: SmartQuoteManager_Initialize, 81 ::Reading SmartQuote Preferences for Language UK English is ‘’“” [INFO]: LingoLanguageInit, 484 ::Setting Frame Language to UKEnglish [ALWAYS]: MainInitAllComponents, 2045 ::All Components Loaded Successfully [ALWAYS]: CopyAdditionalPDFSettingsToUserArea, 1894 ::copied PDF settings Also a directory CQ (empty) is created with the start of FM-16. I have set up notifications to determine the switch between book and document for these triggers: 105 FA_Note_PostActiveDocChange   2 FA_Note_PostOpenDoc 77 FA_Note_PostBookComponentOpen 17 FA_Note_PostOpenBook Now, when switching between nothing (aka Welcome screen), book window and document window I get mixed results. Nothing → Book: Notify is triggered by FA_Note_PostOpenBook Nothing → Open document: Notify is triggered by FA_Note_PostOpenDoc and FA_Note_PostActiveDocChange Document → Open Book: Notify is triggered by FA_Note_PostOpenBook Book → Document: Notify triggered by FA_Note_PostActiveDocChange Document → Book: Notify is not triggered. Which constant is required?   Any ideas, how determine whether I have left the document window and entered the book window?   There must be a method. The open FM Find/Change dialog switches from document to book indication when I leave the document window and click into the book window.

In FrameMaker V16.0.4, working on an inherited Bk file from prior writer of 2019. The chapter numbering is suddenly off and I'd like to understand how to Restart or renumber the files so that the Bk chapters, when opened, reflect the chapter number/order. In an answer to a previous question, I saw a screen shot of a graphic with a blue box which could be dragged to a line of text to anchor the frame to the text... but when I have text symbols turned on and every other option I can find turned on, I only see the black box and black corner squares for the graphic frame. How do I get those blue boxes and all the goodies? I'm using FM 16. 

The element boundaries (tags) are not visible in the fm file even after enabling the tags. Is there any specific reason why the tags couldnt be enable

The idea here is to have a symbol that helps the reader find key statements but I want it to be outside the text box. I know I could indent ALL the text to kind of fake the margin, but I already have indents going 7 levels deep on a book with a two-column page, so I'd rather not sacrifice space nor do I want to have to adjust all the indents for each tag to compensate. Is this something that can be done in FM, or am I asking too much here?

The text frame doesn't have "balance columns" turned on. Selecting the text including the text on the previous page and selecting "Place the current paragraph at its default location" doesn't help, nor does selecting or deselecting "Keep with" options in paragraph designer. This happens in other documents, too. how can I get the copy to just continue in the first column? Thanks. 

I am using Unstructured FrameMaker and trying to add drop-down text or expanding text effects in my content, something similar to this:FrameMaker 2019 has these Dynamic HTML effects listed under the Insert menu. It's a native FM feature, so I expected it to work, but unfortunately, Dynamic HTML effects do not seem to work for me. I have checked the Output settings in the Publish pod, and even though the checkboxes for dropdowns and expanding text are selected, I cannot see that in the generated output. With assistance of forum's Frame Master I've be able to implement the code below to search for regexps. However, I can't seem to set the Consider Case parameter.  I remember an earlier piece of code posted by K. Daube that used qFlags, but I'm not familiar with how they work. Rick mentioned adding an "ig" or "g" to set the global flag at the end of the experession, but it seems to just stip that off when I try passing that to the function. Hi,I am running FrameMaker 2020. There are instances where a header is quite long. When I generate TOC it pushes the page number on a second line. If I enter a line break (SHIFT+Enter) in TOC I notice that the new second line is not linked to the header. So, is there a way I can insert an invisible line break in the main header so that when I generate the TOC the header is set to flow on a second line without breaking the link between the TOC header and the header itself? I am sorry for my unprofessional language. I am attaching a screenshot that might help you understand my question.In this image, I want to break the line so "des Personals" is moved on the second line Yet, the header is fine in the body text and needs no breaking. However, is there a way I can add in here an invisible line break that TOC will honor? Thank you in advance. Sebastian

Hi all, I'm trying to use the online review functionality in FrameMaker. The PDF generates just fine from Distiller, but when it comes to the uploading to document cloud step it stops and shows an error saying the upload has failed and to try again. No matter what I do it always fails.I'm able to create review PDFs and send them via email but ideally I'd like reviewers to be able to see each other's comments and not have to import each review document separately. Any advice on even just debugging this? Are there logs I can look at to see why it's failing?Failing that, is there any other way to get the desired functionality? Thanks in advance

I don't want to remove all overrides for page breaks, and I'd rather not have to select whole groups of paragraphs looking for what the Page Break panel says is going on. Is there a simple way to find them? I thought maybe making a list of references or markers would have something, but no dice.

I had to uninstall Photoshop Trial due to it expiring. After the uninstall, Framemaker 2020 will not run. It is give me the issue error. I do not have IE anylonger available on my computer so I cannot update IE. I am running WIN 10 64x. I need a patch to get around this issue and run Framemaker 2020.

Being familiar with InDesign's Indent to Here feature, I was trying to find something like that for FM; I couldn't find anything like that. Is that just not a thing, even with a plug-in or script? It would be nice to be able to use that and then just update the style using the program's measurements.
