Hi guys. I noticed Adobe InCopy has layers. How to use it? I recently installed Adobe InCopy and I don't have much idea yet.  

I have a file with a few assignaments and after work with it I closed the program without registering the content. Now, I can open the file, but cannot extract the text to edit. It say maybe another user be using it, but it's no possible, the only user its me, and the route showed is my file in my pc. I search for the .idlk, but I don't have it. Any solution, please? 

We are creating our newspaper remotely. We want the designer to be able to place adds and regular columns while I, the editor, place pictures, headlines, and stories at the same time. I've tried to do this, but my Incopy version is like it's locked. I can't add or edit text, and when I go to place an image, I can't even click on that button. It's just a locked document entirely.I NEED to be able to do some of those same design elements that our lead production manager is in charge of, but I need to be doing them at the same time, on the same document. Please help!

I'm trying to simplify a workflow. We are writing 2 versions of a text block, a long and a short version. I want to do the writing in InCopy in a single file so its all in one place for the writers. There are different designers working on the layouts for the long version and the short version so I would like their to be 2 InDesign files. Is there a way to have a single InCopy file feed to 2 indesign documents? There would never be a need for a long text block to be in the short indesign doc and vice versa. Thanks!

I’m having trouble with my indesign file that was edited on Incopy by someone else while working remotely. She sent the updated the file but all the assignments appear to be IN USE by unknown user. She made sure she checked in all assignments and even resend the file to me but the issue persists and it’s not letting me to edit or update the links. I restarted the computer, deleted all old assignments on the server and my desktop, tried Indesign 2022 and 2021. But no luck! I found something odd, not sure if this is causing the issue:I found the assignment names are inconsistent in the assignment folder. *grey is my indesign panel, and purple icon is the files from the sender.The first assignments match, then, “1” suddenly dropped in the assignemnt-1.Then, “2” also disappears from assignments -99 and "8" as well for the rest.  I even renamed the assignments one by one to match my indesign panel, but it didn't solve the issue. Does anyone know how I can

Hi there, I'm a designer and have just started to work with Incopy, but am coming into difficulties when using multiple styles and can't seem to find any advise online, maybe someone here has an idea if I explain my situation?.....  So, I am designing a menu for a restaurant which will be shown in different formats - a digital format for mobile, printed A4 and a printed version to go in a frame.  The goal is to have one text source file in Incopy, and then 3 indesign files with the different formats and type styles. So that whenever there are changes to the menu the text could be updated in Incopy and the change made accross the different indesign files.   I have made the mobile format in Indesign with paragraph and character styles. Then made the Incopy assignment from there and added the menu sections as stories. The problem I need help with is when I opened a new indesign document and placed the ICML file, when I adjust the character styl

I need to figure out if this is a workflow issue or if InCopy/Adobe is messing this up for my team and me. Workflow:My team and I have a corporate Adobe account and work off of Adobe CC. I have a shared folder with them on CC that contains the files. I create an InDesign document and create InCopy assignments. My editors open the single .ICMA file in InCopy - two different editors, two different computers, two different adobe accounts.  However, when Editor A checks-out an assignment in InCopy, Editor B does not see this assignment as being checked out. I've watched on their screens and it never shows that an assignment is being worked on. It is only when Editor A checks the assignment back in that Editor B will then see an "out of date" notification. This happens for both users - neither see each other's checked-out assignments at any point, and often they accidentally edit the same assignment at the same time, and cause lots of conflicting assignment files.&n

Hi, Is there anyone out there having an idea how to select all the text in an article that is spread over multiple components?  

Error when opening pdf that i just exported from InCopy - "Cannot extract the embedded font 'IFVTCD+PlayfairDisplay-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."This is only happening to one person in my organization. Others have the same exact programs, versions, fonts, etc. and this is the only user having this issue. My initial research that this happens every so often and we simply have to wait for Adobe to release a patch to fix the issue. However, since this is only happening to one person in my organization, I am unsure if Adobe knows about this issue yet. To clarify further, my user is editing an InCopy template file, saving it, then exporting to PDF. Once that happens, the pdf procures the error. If someone else does the same exact process, then there is no error coming from the pdf at all. In both InCopy 2020 and 2021, I am unable to open a icml file properly if the file is locatede on a network volume. Opens just fine if on a local drive. The error I get is "Unable to lock th efollowing files:" The file opens, but I am unable to edit it, or check it out. It doesn't matter if the file was created by someone else or by me, it has to be copied down to lock it. It doesn't matter if I'm connected via SMB or AFP, or to a server or a Mac with file sharing turned on. Please help!

We're improving the accessibility of our PDFs by including alt text with images. Is it possible for InCopy users (writers) to add alt text withing InCopy specifically? Our designers can add alt text within InDesign and Acrobat Pro, but we would like to optimize our workflow and give writers an opportnity to update this copy themselves. Thanks in advance!

My inDesign template uses columns to layout text, however when the writing team are creating content in inCopy there appears to be no way to display columns. This means that they cannot visually see how much space they have to work with on the page accurately and makes our workflow difficult. It would be nice to be able to visualise columns in inCopy.  Thanks

I would like to create an InCopy template for just one colleague who manage all of editorial contributions. It is important to me that the view in InCopy looks exactly like the Indesign layout (with column widths, etc.). It should be a file without check-out and check-in, because the editorial staff only prepare and edit the text. The complex workflow of InCopy and InDesign is not necessary. How do I create an .imct-document that has this requirements? (For info: The text have not to be changed after importing in InDesign)

Hi all, Is there any method that I can only embed certian rows or cells from the Incopy's table to the Indesign file? For example: I want to insert the contents in the red box rather instead of the whole table.  

We have users that create InDesign files on Macs and users on PC that open those files in InCopy. Recently a file that was created on a Mac in InDesign is showing an error when users on PC try to open it in InCopy. The error message states, "Because this document contains no InCopy stories, Galley View and Story View are not available." The file has been recreated, but the issue persists. Any help would be appreciated! 

Probably a very stupid question, but any ideas why I cant enable track changes in all stories. Its just greyed out, any ideas what could be causing this? My doc opens fine, I can make changes, sign out and in my many assignments. everything works fine. I can even enable track changes accross entire doc in indesign, but not in Incopy. Many thanks Steve

Hi there. Does anyone know how to make InCopy files on the same InDesign layout display together in the same Layout view, so you can edit all checked out InCopy files in the same Layout view at once? They also appear in one stream in the other views. In my current set-up, each InCopy file has its own Layout view showing just it on the page, which gets annoyign if you are working on, say, 6 stories on one spread.

Hello, Hopefully someone can help me with my problem.We are trying to implement an InCopy process between the design and communication team in our company. While testing I have noticed that everytime I open an updated file from comms team, the updates are not showing on my end. The old file with no new text change is what is opening. We've tried sending the file via our work intake tool, email and Teams and everytime the old file is still what is being shown on the screen. Please help.

Can someone give me a simple step by step to setting up an Indesign file that can be edited in Incopy? I've read so many variations online and am confused about whether to use assignments or not, how to check in/check out files etc. I have tried setting up a file using assignments but the recipient can't open the icma file. I've also tried exporting an Indesign file for Incopy but the recipient can't open the Indesign file in Incopy. I'm just really confused about the best way to get Incopy working and I have struggled to find a good step by step guide. TIA.

I'm working with InDesign and InCopy 2021 my understanding from the tutorials I have watched is that when I link an InCopy file into a text box in my InDesign file it should automatically create an assigment in the assignment panel. Instead it's appearing as a link in the links panel. I can then have to unlink the .icml file and export the story to InCopy and it will appear in the assignments panel but it also creates a renamed duplicate .icml file which gets kind of confusing. Am I wrong in thinking that something is not behaving the way it is supposed to?

What is best and easiest practice to prepare my document INDD file for Incopy? I normally work on multipage documents on quite a technical magazine with my text boxes and frames etc. Do I have to manually add every box I want to create an assignment for?This would be very time consuming on a 10 page document.I hope I am missing something Any advice greatly appreciated
