InCopy

We have a need at my company to create a document (in inDesign) that can be tweaked frequently by other people who are not versed in the software, so as to avoid a bottleneck of constant tiny changes coming through to one person. We have tried using inCopy for this purpose, as it's advertised to do, but have so far been unable to effectively share documents, stories, etc. across computers. What are our options? Can someone explain the process to me like I'm five? 

I've seen a number of related issues, but nothing that addresses my need: Currently working with a remote team of copy editors and designers. .indd file can be opened in InCopy but cannot be checked out. It tells me who has it checked out, but I have confirmed this person does not have the file checked out.  Workflow: Indesign --> Assignments created --> Document packaged to shared Dropbox --> File opened on IC on remote computer(s) Questions: Is there a way to force check-in a file? Is anyone having similar issues?   

Is there a way to measure the White space in an InCopy file in comparison to the amount of space Text takes up and Images take up? This will help my company know if a book has too many images or too much white space or too many words. For example: The document is considered 100% filled. Perhaps 10% of the document is filled with images, 30% of the file is take up with text / words, and 60% is filled with white space. 10% + 30% + 60% = 100% of the document. Could all the white pixels be counted and compared to all the colored pixels maybe to determine this ratio?

Hello,  Does anyone know how to set a permanent Hyperlink setting in Adobe?  I have a document that needs over 200 links, but don't want to select "open in a new window" each time- does anyone know how to set that setting on Adobe so I dont have to change it every time?  Thank you! Open a file. Select the destination file and click Select. "A useful feature is the ability to track changes that have been made to an article by each contributor who has participated in the writing and editing process. Every time someone adds, removes, or moves text in an existing article, the change is highlighted in the Text Editor in InDesign or in the Text view and Article view in InCopy. You can then accept or ignore the changes.Use the Track Changes panel in InDesign or the Track Changes toolbar in InCopy to turn Track Changes on and off and show, hide, accept, and ignore changes made by collaborators."The problem is that I don't see any changes being made, even though all the settings seem to be set correctly. Has anyone encountered similar problems?

I'm trying to find instances of "salt" or "Salt" within a particular style.  When I use(?<![T|t]able )saltI get "Kosher" or "kosher" salt and "unsalted"I've tried seemingly every combination of | with cap and lc kosher and "un" to exclude those, but nothing has worked. I think I'm tripping over brackets and parentheses in the wrong combinations. Can anyone help? THANK YOU in advance if you can help me with this. 

How can I install a previos version of Incopy? I need the one with the version 17.4.1 (2022)

I currently work with remote writers using an InCopy/InDesign workflow. What I'd like to see is a list of all the users who have created a user profile on this project. I'm also wondering how I might be able to override the check in/check out system.  Is it possible to delete/remove users from a file/project if say, they leave the company, etc. I thought when I'd go to assisgn an assignment to someone that there would be a list of the users. Even when I go to change/edit my user name, I'm not given a list of current user names that already exist. Am I missing something?It'd be nice if there was a "master/main/admin" user that can override the check in/check out system - say for instance if someone is sick or no longer works at the company and forgets to check something in. This is especially important if we have remote users working from live files. 

I finally upgraded to Ventura 13.1 and almost immediately began experiencing system-wide issues. The most aggravating is the fact that after I open an InCopy document and complete ONE document, the app crashes. I have to constantly quit and reopen the app for EACH document, and in my line of work, that means a LOT of extra steps to accomplish what has been to this point an easy process. Has anyone experienced this? I could use some help since I can't find any other references online to this problem. Thank you

How can I install a previous version (17.4.1)? All the instructions online do not match what i m seeing in creative clouds apps. The instructions usually say click on the ... next to the inCopy app which should open a menu where one can select other Versiosn. However, this option simply does not exist for me. Is there a direct link to download an installer of the version i want ? Or how can one get this option in creative clouds ? The most current version is not compatible with my device and i dont see any reason to upgrade my system for a simple tool like inCopy. Thanks

When I export a pdf from InDesign, I am given the option to "include visible guides and grids." I cannot find this option when I try to export a pdf from InCopy. Is it not available, or am I just not looking in the right place? 

Good Morning,We have been testing a new cloud based server, and we are a magazine. What we did is create test files and only work off of those. The test was to see if Incopy Links could be accessed through this server and could the work be done remotely.We did not throw out the assignments on the test files. This was done deliberately.What we have found was the copy we made to our test files ALSO came across to our main server - that since we were not working with the original files we did not expect them to change. Yet they did.We think that it has to do with every version of a link changes, reguardless of where it's at.Has anyone else had similar experiences, and what did you do to solve any issues?Thank you in advance.

Hi all, I introduced my colleague to Text Macros on InCopy last week. He created a lot but he's opened up InCopy today and they've all gone. Where do Text Macros save and how might he be able to get them back? He's a Windows user. Any ideas welcome, thanks in advance.

I am seeing a prohibit symbol (circle with a slash through it) when trying to make an edit in the layout view of InCopy. Anybody know what that means?

Tengo mi propia licenncia pagada de InCopy 2023, pero necesito usar otros programas para los cuales aún no salen las versiones compatibles a esta última versión (WoodWing y Font Explorer) La página de Adobe solo tiene dos versiones más antiguas disponibles y ninguna es la del 2020. ¿Cómo podría hacer? 

I need to install Adobe InCopy 2020 (15.1.3) on Windows 10 and MAC. But I don't see older versions in creative cloud, Does anyone know where i can get these installers?. Thanks

Hola recientemente hemos adquirido Indesign e Incopy, el maquetador trabaja en Indesign y pone a disposición las páginas con sus respectivas asignaciones para los redactores en Incopy, pues bien, hay muchas veces que cuando el redactor hace cambios en Incopy y reegistra asignaciones, luego el maquetador no las vé en Indesign, no le aparecen guardadas, pero si el maquetador abre la página con Incopy si le aparecen los cambios. Trabajamos todos en un ordenador/servidor con una carpeta compartida y cuando el redactor cierra la página con los cambios bien guardados el maquetador no puede verlos en Indesign pero sí en Incopy. Esto porqué puede ser.Adjunto pantallazo de mismo documento, uno abierto con Indesign y el mismo con IncopyAgradeceria ayuda ya que nos crea muchisimos conflictos

Hello everyone,we separated a large document in InDesign into a book (.indb) and created asssignments, which are edited by our customer in InCopy. Is it possible for them to export alle pages of the book InCopy to a PDF (like in the InDesign book window)? Our customer sometimes needs the whole document in one file for preview purposes and is not able to merge the PDF files. Thanks in advance,Diana

Hi - we're using editors with limited access to the internet, and so are using an email-based workflow. I set up the files in InDesign, and export assigned spreads to an assignment which I then package to an icap file and mail to the editor. This works fine some of the time, but quite frequently the editor comes across a problem with not being able to check out some of the stories in InCopy, with the error message "Unable to check out this file. It may be in use by someone else". The only solution we've found is for me to re-create the assignemnts and re-package and re-send, but this means the editor loses all their work up to that point. Any ideas?ThanksSimon

Auf der Musterseite habe ich Hilfslinien und unten eine Textbox mit einer Seitenzahl und einer Fussnote reingestellt.Nach dem Öffnen des Dokuments in Adobe InCopy Vers. 2022 musste ich feststellen, dass die Seitenzahl und die Fussnote sich in die Seitenmitte verschoben hatte. Ein Bug?

Hi there. Does anyone know of a screen reader (eg JAWS or NVDA) that works successfully with InCopy. One of our editorial team has a visual impairment that means they need to listen to copy as much as possible without having to look at it. Thanks for any advice.

Hello! Has anyone had success importing endnotes (saved from Endnote - it seems to become a Bibliography in Word) to InDesign in such a way that they maintain their links from superscript to the reference in the Biblio? I used InCopy to import from Word, and there appear to be links on the superscript, but they don't translate to links in a PDF (which is the final result we need). Any ideas appreciated!
