InDesign

Can someone provide current up to date information on how to deactivate one of my three devices? Available posts have outdated info and its impossible to find the area to do this. The only other option I have is to try and use the unactivated device, which then gives me the opportunity to deactivate one of the other two devices.  Find it hard to believe that is the only way. Online rep claimed that it is not possible. Is that true? 

Heya, I have a question about changing the click color of a text field in an interactive PDF.  After export, when I go to fill it out, I click into the text box and it turns light red. Is there a way to change this color?Thank you!

Hey all, Hoping to gain insight and best practice for freelancing and collaborating on projects.  With collaborated projects with other designers and I've noticed this error show:"Cannot open the document: "X". You may not have permission or the document may be open already. For multi-user access, close the file and set the file properties to read-only in Windows Explorer." To give a little more insight on the process, usually other designers will share their Google drive link where I download the files and continue the project. I save the project to my One drive and work on it from there - there has been no issues with the work files. Once ready to hand back over, I just copy these files from my One drive back to their Google drive. It seems that this error showed once I copied the file back over to their drive. Is there anyway to open the Indesign file from my One Drive without having to change to Read-Only? As sometimes I may need to go back in to edit. Copy

I have tried \r\n and <br> in a .csv and .txt file data merge. Is there an escape character that allows InDesign to read the formatting from the source doc? My source doc has hundreds of records each containing 7 fields, one of which is a list of procedures. These vary from 2 to 8 procedures. Is there an easy way to merge this data into ONE text field on my target doc so that Data Merge preserves the line breaks and my Paragraph Style formats the text in an appropriately numbered list?

Hi, I have a very long document full of proper nouns. Is there a way to run Indesign's spellcheck to stop it flagging foreign placenames, people etc (which start with a capital letter), and so make the spellcheck process much quicker? Thank you for any help.

Hola comunidad. No sería genial que InDesig atribulla automáticamente una pagina principal cada vez que detecte un estilo de parrafo en particular.  Ejemplo: En cada apertura de capítulo, aplicamos un estilp de párrafo "Título capítulo", cada vez que se aplique determinado estilo, se cambiará o asignará una página principal, predefinida. Simplificaría mucho nustro trabajo, no?

You need to set different object styles:You need to decide whether to enlarge or reduce the size and choose the appropriate option.For example, I want to reduce all images to 60 mm.This is too tedious. Hallo zusammen,ich bearbeite einen ca. 300 Seiten langen Katalog in welchem im unteren Bereich Querverweise in Form von Seitenzahlen eingebaut sind. Einfach nach dem Prinzip "Zubehör hierzu finden Sie ab Seite XY".Das setzen der Marker und das Verlinken hat bis dato super geklappt. Nun habe ich von einem auf den anderen Tag massive Probleme mit der Querverweis-Maske. Es dauert satte 30 Minuten bis sich die Maske öffnet. Man bekommt das Gefühl das InDesign jedes Mal das komplette Dokument studiert bevor es losgehen kann.Ich habe bereits alles Probiert. Ich habe den Einsatz auf 3 verschiedenen Rechnern getestet, sogar Mac/Win. Ebenso wurde InDesign komplett neu installiert und die Einstellungen komplett gelöscht. Leider alles ohne Abhilfe.Andere Tipps das Dokument als IDML zu sichern und damit weiter zu arbeiten hat leider auch nichts gebracht.Leider komme ich an diesem Punkt nicht weiter. Das Arbeiten ist so leider absolut nicht mehr möglich da jeder Verweis mind. 30 Min. dauern würde.A

Since I updated to 2020, I can't seem to use shift+command to scale my images or text proportionally - it just changes the size of the object's box - not the content within the box. When I click on the content itself, I can scale it but it is disproportionate. This is one of my go-to shortcuts! Help!

Hi all, Lately I have been experimenting with converting PDFs to InDesign layouts. Whether I export the text from Acrobat Pro to Word to InDesign... or whether I open the PDF into InDesign so that the new feature can convert it back into a .INDD document, ... I see this problem a lot: ligatures like fl and fi become single glyph characters in InDesign and the spell-checker has no idea what the word is. Try to right-click and it guesses very badly. That makes for a lot of manual spell-check fixing for every word with fl and fi all across many pages. Anyone seen this? Is there a cure for it?

Hi. Please, can we have InDesign files in MacOS Finder (Sequoia 15.0.1) show the document preview.   I have relied on 3rd party developers over the last 10+ years (ArtView and inddPreview.app) to provide this essential feature. Unfortunately Apple has dropped support for legacy plugins (so called Quick Look generators) so inddPreview.app has stopped working.   I have over 15,000 InDesign files, and to now do what is usually a quick visual finder search is impossible with the Finder only showing the generic InDesign Document Icon.   .psd files have finder document previews.ai files have finder document previews Why not InDesign?   The 6 year old Feature Request is marked as Solved when it clearly isn't.https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/33291841-indesign-preview-for-finder   Attached image: Left, how the finder looks now, on the Right, how it needs to look! Hi Adobe Community! I'm having an issue with publishing a document online. I've posted the document online for years and never have had issues. The document has passed hands between myself and another designer. I was having issues with InDesign due to trying to sync an Adobe Font and when I reopened it said the file might be damaged. Sharing this in case it could provide any explanation.It's a dining map where I have anchored dots attached to text, so that when items are added or removed to the list, the dots move with it. Now when I publish online, the anchored objects move when published. See attached for what it should like versus what the publish link looks like (below). There is one dot that is not anchored to demonstrate how it stays in place versus the anchored ones. After adding 70 chapters to my book collection, I realized I have been doing a lot of things wrong. So I am starting over from scratch. But I don't to waist time 1again so I really want to get it right this time.1. How can I make sure that all files added to the book follow the same footnotes settings regarding space from text, divider etc 2. Also I want to force that at the beginning of each chapter the numbering of the footnotes  restarts to 1. Thanks SF 

In Design 2022, I need to import 123 .jpgs Each .jpg is one full page for  fixed layout epub. So the .indd will be 123 pages. I know there is a way to place, tried holding shift or space bar. I have done this while importing a docx in the ost now I need to do the same with jpgs anyone??  

I am updating an indesign file. I can not get rid of the page number which must be part of style.  It appears on top of the green section.  How can I change numbering from  automatic to manual? Many thanks.

Hi. Using ID 20.5 under Windows 11.Three days ago, ID was updated automatically to 20.5. Today I opened a set of book files created under the immediate previous version (20.41, I believe, but it might have been a version earlier; I usually update right away). In one of the files, previously, I had changed a head that was cross-referenced earlier in the same file. That is, on p15 the cross-reference refers to a head on p22, but the head on p22 had been changed (and the file saved) without updating the Xref prior to saving. Today, under 20.5, I open the file and notice that the reference to the head on p22 is red. Why, I must have neglected to update it! I will fix that, I think.I go to the reference citation on p15 and select it in the Cross-Reference panel.1st try) I double-click the reference to update it. ID tries to open the Xref panel and crashes. I reopen the app and the book. I have seen this story before with cross-references the last couple of times Adobe has updated

Help, a most bizarre occurrence recently.  I am doing the design, layout, and typesetting of an 88-page magazine using InDesign (2025) 20.4.1 with a M4 Mac mini and MacOS Sequoia 15.3.2 (24D81). The InDesign file is located in my hard drive Dropbox folder synced to my Dropbox on the Dropbox website. After finishing a second round of the entire magazine (after making corrections) and sending proofs to staff, etc, suddenly 3 consecutive letters are missing throughout the entire document when they were not previously. They are missing in the InDesign file and the PDF I made afterward. The original sin was in InDesign. The missing letters are all  “med” in this consecutive order. For example, words like “medical,” “Medicare,” “Medicaid,” “deemed,” “confirmed,” “intermediary,” etc suddenly are missing and leaving in the text “icaid” “care” “dee” “confir” “interiary” etc. All the 3 letters that were missing were the letters “med” in this consecutive order.

Hi, I'm formatting a huge document - I have paragraph styles set up (no italics), but have a ton of book names that need italics. I created a character style for them and am going through manually updating them. How can i use find and replace to do this easier? This document is 150 pages.
