My InDesign file kept crashing, so I rebooted my computer, and now it won't open at all. Every time InDesign tries to recover the file, it states "Automatic recovery failed last time," and gives me the option to either begin recovery or cancel the action. When I press yes, it closes the application entirely.

Hi Community, Ive gotten a bunch of older Indesign files from a client and they all have the same issue. I cant open any of them. and they all have the same alert in the pop-up window. What to do? Thanks in advance 

Hi my indesign keep crashing (log attached)  

I found a weird behavior using GREP in Adobe InDesign. GREP query:<p class="h3l">(.+?)<\/p> This works fine when the capturing group (found text) is short, but when the matching text is very large, it does not match. I have tried with multiple alternativeLike <p class="h3l">([^r]+)<\/p><p class="h3l">(.{1,})<\/p><p class="h3l">(.+?)<\/p>$ But these also does not match. Then i try <p class="h3l">.{1,} to see how many characters it can match.But somehow it matches at a certain point, not whole text before line break. I tried this GREP query multiple times, surprisingly it give different result each time. It matches different length of characters each time. I tried this expression in other text editors where it matches correctly. Adobe InDesign Version:InDesign July 2025 (20.5)

Confusion is torture.When there is only one row in the header, it can be directly converted to a header.like this:var doc = app.activeDocument, selectedRows = getRows(doc.selection[0]); var headerRows = convertToRowType(selectedRows, RowTypes.HEADER_ROW); But when there are cross row columns, conversion is not allowed.Sometimes it needs to be converted to BODY_ROWS, and sometimes it needs to be converted to HEADER_ROWS. 

I am using the latest version of Indesign.  I have a loaded cursor that I can't unload.  I've tried everything but when I move the cursor over a text box the text box or black box shows up and I can't get rid of it.  I have read and tried everything and I'm about to fire this whole computer right out the window lol.  Any ideas anyyone???

Hello,I can't shut down background tasks and it is preventing me from exporting a PDF.  I have tried to create a new document and the copy and paste but the background tasks are still on.  They are trying to add font that I don't want.  I have replaced all the font in the document but it is still trying to add font.  I have shut down Indesign.  I have shut it down and the reopened it pressing control, option and shift.  I am on a mac.  Even if I just open indesign without opening a document it is still trying to add this font.  There are no crosses to click to stop it.  Please can someone help me. Thank you Sarah

I am working with a client who is trying to do a directory in Indesign. There are about 1,800 people with information like address, title, employer, phone, etc. This info is on an Excel spread sheet. I made a text, tab delimited and a CSV file from the spreadsheet. I set up a two column text box on each page and want these entries to fill the columns. I am only able to get one person's information per page. Multiple records per page yields no different result. I also had the multiple records option grayed out on a couple tries. I have tried this many times, even tried setting up a simple spread sheet with 9 items. No luck. HELP! I'm brand new to this feature.Chris

I am running the high-res pdfs for a journal print but have been hampered by my laptop freezing and InDesign crashing, with error messages such as "file corrupted" and "database error".   Do you have any suggestion on how to solve the issue other than save the Indesign files locally in my laptop? We use Google Drive but it does not allow me to save InDesign files on it.   <Title modified by MOD>

Hi all,As of late August 2025, Microsoft has rolled out a new Microsoft 365 Copilot feature on Windows that opens the Copilot chat panel with the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+C. Unfortunately, this directly conflicts with InDesign’s long-standing “Fit Frame to Content” shortcut, which many of us use constantly. InDesign’s shortcut is hard-coded and cannot be reassigned in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.Microsoft does not currently provide a way to disable or change the Copilot global hotkey.Workarounds like PowerToys can suppress the key combo, but then InDesign never sees it either.Registry/Group Policy edits can disable Copilot completely, but on many work PCs (like mine) users don’t have permissions to apply these changes. This is a serious workflow disruption for designers, and right now the only practical workaround is to create a custom script and assign a different shortcut in InDesign — which is clunky compared to using the native key. 👉 Has anyone found an offic

Can anyone explain how my pasteboard got like this and how to get it back to normal size?There is no object on that page.  The image shows Preview off. If I try to select everything on the pasteboard, only the page selects.  I checked all links and there is no rogue link anywhere. What the heck?Thanks. Indesign 15.0.2 x64W10 Machine 

InDesign is crashing immediately after opening. Anyone else having this issue? I already tried uninstalling and re-installing and restarting my computer.

Hi There! We are a public company in Germany, using Adobe Cloud. Our public relations team has discovered an issue since we made an Update form Windows 10 to Windows 11 in Adobe InDesign. When typing/editing text in a textbox, the text disappears. Not everytime but often enough to be very annoying.  I found an old thread from 2021 with MAc where this issue was fixed with an Update to Version 17.X.Well we already got a up to date Version.  So maybe any other suggestions? Yours sincerely  Michael

Hi Adobe,  I have Itemised lists set out with a sublist underneath. When I create a new header. For example 2.0 the sub list doesn't recognise the 2.0 and continues from 1.1 to 1.2 regardless of the header list.  Can you please advise on how I set the nested list correctly?  

We are having an issue with InDesign at the Data Merge tab on large files (~100MB) on a group drive . We make a copy of a template, make some changes, and link a csv and merge one record in our process. However,  sometimes, when we open our template and clicking the data merge panel it crashes the entire program. This typically happens when there is already a csv linked to the document. Sometimes we can no longer open the file. Other times we can open the file, but never use the data merge feature or the software will crash and changes are lost. When we try to copy pages to a new file, the issue seems to carry over with the page content. It does seem to help to rewrite the file as IDML, but then we loose the content in the data merge tab and are back to the same place in our procees. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue or have recommendations for how to use the data merge feature without loosing files? 

I have formatted at 700 page document for a company book. Their in-house style is Fira Sans. I downloaded this typeface from Adobe. The number 1 is larger than the other numbers throughout the document when looking at the document at 100%.  I thought this was the style but looking it up online it says the numbers should all be the same height and in fact when I increase the size to 300% hey presto all the number are the same size. BUT when printing the pages the number 1 looks sightly smaller than the other numbers and the number 2 is slightly bigger! What is going on?! Hello, I would like to ask whether it is possible to save PDF files in the PDF/X-4:2008 standard in the 2025 version of the inDesign software. I found that the software can only save PDF files in the PDF/X-4:2010 standard. Now I need to save files in the PDF/X-4:2008 standard. How can I save them?

I can't print for long in InDesign.It works the first 3-5 times, but then InDesign crashes in the print menu before I can submit the print.This keeps happening until I restart the PC.Then it works again 3-5 times, and then the same error appears.I'm attaching the error log. Can anyone help?

This has become an unbelievable joke. I'm once again getting blank screens upon returning to an open InDesign document after a short period of being away from my Mac.    I'm also STILL, after over a year+ STILL having to reselect my Workspace setting, which then reinitiates the unbelievably annoying popups.    Seriously, what is going on at Adobe?   <Title renmaed by MOD>

In the current release and previous version of In Design the pages overhang the dialog/button panel at the bottom making it difficult to access the last spread. In the Beta version it works as expected   <Title renamed by MOD>
