I can't find the size settings.https://www.indesignjs.de/extendscriptAPI/indesign-latest/#ObjectStyle.html //Creat AA ObjectStyle var wn = [AA]; for (var i = 0; i < wn.length; i++) { w = newObjStyle(app.activeDocument, wn[i], emptyStyle); }; I want to set image size, frame,fit content proportionally, position objects, wrap text in the script.Like this:
Hi, I'm formatting a huge document - I have paragraph styles set up (no italics), but have a ton of book names that need italics. I created a character style for them and am going through manually updating them. How can i use find and replace to do this easier? This document is 150 pages.
I have a Word document that is approximately 88 pages long and contains around 6,000 words. Manually indexing these words would be a daunting task for me. I am not an expert in scripting or coding, so I would prefer not to rely on a third party. Is there a way for me to list these words in InDesign by simply copying them from Word and pasting them somewhere? I would like InDesign to search through these words and create a list. I would appreciate any help!
HelloIn Arabic-persian text "diacritics" will be omitted on exporting to pdf with or without "enable lagacy..." I enable this and test and then disabled this and quit and open and nothing resolved. sample text: ( آشوبِ ) will export ( آشوب ) indesign 19.5 windows 11 Thanks Thanks <Title renamed by MOD>
I have seen scripts that can add line numbers, but they seem to change easily. When text is added or deleted, it can sometimes be difficult to find a specific location.I usually make changes from the back, so that the page numbers and layout don't change, making it easy to find. But sometimes, when clients are standing right next to you, they like to Revise the draft from the front to the back.In this case, you want to be able to quickly find a specific paragraph. If the low-quality draft and ID file both have paragraph numbers, wouldn't it be quick? Like this, but using positioning objects is too complicated. Is there another way?
How do I silence the InDesign notifications? I don't want to mute my computer. When do a find and replace function and use the keyboard's ALT + A to replace all instances, I get a bong noise. I'd like to stop the noise. Thanks.
In what language does one write scripts for ID? I ask because my son is a whiz and probably could write a script setting the default view size to 125%. ID seems to have it set at 90%, which is fine if you're young with good eyesight, but for us old codgers it's a challenge. Thanks.
Can set a background color for a cell that is visible in the layout but not in the printout?I want to mark span-rows
There seems to be some agreement that ID's indexing feature is kludgy at best. I am not an experienced coder or script writer, but I thought of an algorithm that might make the indexing job easier. I'm posting this so you all can tell me that I'm nuts. (So stipulated!) Suppose index markers came in two flavors, start and end. If ID assigned marker numbers (not replacing the levels of index entries) and marker-end numbers, indexing would become far more flexible. So, for example, the first index entry would have "Index Marker 1" (IM1) and would generate "Index Marker 1 END" (IM1_END) for the user to place in the appropriate location in the text. So when the user marks the beginning of an index reference (with whatever levels the user specifies), pressing "OK" would generate a pop-up saying "place index end marker(#) at desired point." Then the user would not have to bother with all of the approximations (e.g. Next # paragraphs, Next # pages, etc.) that ID has now. If I'm right
I'm getting ready to order some initial review copies of my picture book documentary. It's 120 pages, landscape 11x8.5, with 141 photos, with .5" to 1" borders, so no bleed issues. I've been packaging the file for my own review of the PDFs. All photos are PS (jpgs), 300 ppi or greater. Ok, there's a single color map (think Google maps) that's 288 ppi. My understanding is that I should do the CMYK transition myself before sending the PDF. I intend to derive the final PDF from a packaging operation. Am I on the right track? Obviously the quality of the photography is paramount as the colors are vivid and sharp.
There are three images attached. In the first image, I have a screenshot from the InDesign document. In the second image, there is a PDF of the same document, for proofreading. In the third image, there is the PDF that was sent to print (which I had no reason to check anymore, since the InDesign document hadn’t undergone any changes). Instead of the hyphenation, an “a” appeared. After various attempts, I disabled “Optimize for Fast Web View” and “Create tagged PDF.” The error disappeared.
With the new feature in InDesign, I have a file containing about 124 hyperlink URLs. Each of these hyperlinks includes alternate text (ALT text). I want to extract this ALT text. Is there any way to do this, perhaps with a script?
Whenever I creat a new text box it appears with a black border which I then need to manually remove. Can I set a default to creating a text box without any border.
I am wondering if anyone has an explanation of how to remove these shaded grays areas that print behind these words when I print directly out of InDesign or as an Adobe PDF from my Windows 11 computer to my Canon imagePRESS printer. There is nothing visible on the design but no matter what I tweak it always prints these shaded gray areas. Is there a setting you can turn off?
The thing that slows us down the most at our company is font issues. We have auto-activation turned on, but even today, we couldn't get a font to auto-activate or manually activate to get a job ready for print. The font we were having trouble with today was "PF Videotext". However, this is a persistent and ongoing issue that is worsening. When any Adobe app tries to auto-activate a font, it sometimes gets stuck, and there is no way to stop the process, which means I have to quit the application and reopen it, and sometimes even restart the computer if the issue persists. It's an absolute nightmare. We are using new Mac Studio machines with 96GB of RAM. We shouldn't have these issues at all. Please help fix the font issues.
Dear all,I am giving the finishing touches to a scholarly publication on classical music. The document will include a conspicuous musical part and extensive editorial and critical notes both at the beginning and at the end of the book. Now, I am aware that aligning to baseline in multiple column works gives them a cleaner look but, in this specific case, with several images and quite a few section titles, I feel that doing so makes everything look a bit colder and encyclopaedic. It certainly look fine but I wonder if you could give a look at the two pdfs attached below and tell me both what you think of it and any additional feedback I could have overlooked. Right now the body text is 11pt in size and the leading is 16.5 (150%). I have set up the baseline to repeat every 16.5 pt (correct?) as anything less would make lines appear one every two baselines (it took me a while to understand this). Of course, this causes all other paragraph styles (whose spacing was governed
Is there a maximum file, not document, size for an InDesign file?
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help with a problem I've been experiencing in Indesign. I have some files I have linked from an illustrator (.ai) file in Indesign and whenever I save changes on the illustrator file and attempt to update the links on the indesign file I am met with the following error message. This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it. The files are stored on my own hard drive and I'm the only computer with the file open. Looking through similar threads I have tried deleting my cache, deleting the .idlk file, restarting my computer and uninstalling InDesign. Anyother suggestions would be helpful. Many thanks
After generating a table of contents in InDesign (v. 18.1). I noticed that the page numbering is out of sequence. I've asked InDesign to include in the TOC all level 1 and level 2 heads. The generated table of contents lists everythng from the beginning of the document in linked text boxes, front to back, correctly. But after the highest page number, the numbers continue again, but from lower numbers. A good example included in my screen capture images is that there are two TOC entries on page 14, but then after that the TOC shows two entries for page 7. There are several 'sidebars' throughout the 18-page project file. The out-of-sequence page numbers all belong to H1 or H2 heads contained in those sidebars. So what InDesign is doing is listing all of the 'main' items first in the TOC, and then going through again and listing all of the sidebar H1 & H2 items. Is this a bug? Is there a fix? (Please see both attached screen capture images)I'm using a Macbook Pro on OS V
Hi,i wanted to share this indesign script i wrote. I would be happy if people give me feedback. The script finds and applies conditional combinations(!) of paragraph styles comfortably in almost any kind of selection. _____________DESCRIPTIONThis script is good for finding and replacing applied paragraph styles comfortably, especially for finding consecutive combinations of styles. I use it in early design phase to quickly try different typographical layouts and very often to change subheadings or the paragraphs following subheadings._____________SOME EXAMPLES- Simple case: find each paragraph with style 'X', change it to style 'Y' (less clicks than the find/change-dialog)- Conditional case: find each occurrance of 'Head followed by Sub' and change it to 'Head2 followed by Sub4'- Use the 'autoReverse'-setting to compare two style combinations back and forth quickly.- Use the 'quick test'-setting to do serial runs of layout variations: after a run it will a
Hello Adobe Community,I'm pleased to share my PDF export script with everyone. "exportPageRangesToPDF.jsx"https://github.com/MoebiusSt/exportPageRangesToPDF.jsx Description:This InDesign script (Adobe InDesign CC 19.5 currently) exports page ranges to separate PDFs. It provides a fast way to export multiple page ranges from your InDesign document to individual PDF files and reduces file-naming and handling for you. It's become my standart PDF export routine used daily. See screenshots attached. Version: v2.08, Date: 2025-08-11From Version 2.02 to 2.08: mostly bug fixes but one significant added feature is the ability to customize your pages prefix in the file naming schema. Features:Export multiple page ranges to individual PDFsSpecify export folder and PDF preset to useManually input page ranges and labels/identifiers for each rangeRetrieve a list of page ranges from:- Previously exported PDFs in the target direc
I'm using InDesign CC v15.0.1x64, Windows 10. When I create a new style and give it a paragraph rule (let's say Rule Below, 1pt, Black, Offset 0.125in), then when I go back to edit the style, the paragraph rule can't be edited. It shows as if there is no paragraph rule applied, yet it's right there. The Rule On checkbox becomes mysteriously unchecked but the rule is showing. If you click the checkbox on, it creates a new rule style over the existing one that can't be edited or deleted. I've tried creating new styles, creating new documents, restarting, rebooting, and nothing is solving the issue that I can't edit a Paragraph Rule after I create a style for it.
Problem:I'm working on an Arabic educational book using Adobe InDesign. The Arabic text includes full diacritics (tashkeel), and everything looks perfectly aligned inside text frames that are placed within decorative shapes. However, once I export the file to PDF, the diacritics become misaligned — especially when the text is inside shapes or grouped with other design elements.I've already tried the following:Enabled Adobe World-Ready Paragraph ComposerUsed supported Arabic fonts (like Adobe Arabic and Amiri)Ensured Right-to-Left paragraph directionDisabled Text WrapTried "Fit Frame to Content" and reset text frame options (zero inset spacing)Exported using "Embed All Fonts" and PDF/X-4 presetYet the issue persists: the diacritics shift or appear outside their intended positions when viewed in the exported PDF.✅ Text appears correctly inside InDesign❌ But gets distorted or misaligned in the final PDFHow can I preserve diacritic positioning exactly as shown in InDesign when
Hallo, is it possible to change the font used for creating mathematical expressions?
I'm trying to create something like the below for all the titles and possibly subtitles in a book. There is no way I'm aware of to do this using a paragraph style. At the moment I think my best bet would be to create all the titles in illustrator or photoshop and export them as pngs, then anchor them into the text boxes - especially as the line under the title text would need to be an anchored object too. Checking if anyone has a better, easier to edit way to do this? Maybe there is some crazy script out there that someone knows about or something. Or just a different way of going about it than the only one I can think of. Thanks!
