InDesign

Hi! I've created a TOC with dot leaders, but there are inconsistent gaps between the end of the headings and the start of the dots. I've checked and there are no extra spaces at the end of the heading. Does anyone know how to make it more consistent? Specifically, I'm looking to fill the gap at the end of "at a glance," which is quite large, the others are a little annoying but nothing to lose sleep over.

Hi all!  Please help.This has been bugging me for a while, but now to the point i'm going crazy.  If I have an InDesign document minimized, and I open a new document, the minimized window flys open and puts itself in front of the file I just opened. Which then I need to minimize it again. Photoshop doesn't do this.  Nor does Illustrator. Just InDesign.I don't like the application frame being open because of the background, so don't have that selected, and I don't open the documents in tabs.  I like everything floating.  I've never had this issue in older versions.  I think it started last year or so.Please tell me there is a simple solution to fixing this that I am not seeing!  Make the minimized documents stay minimized!  lol.

Hallo Zusammen,Kurz zur Vorgeschichte, ich habe ein interaktives PDF gemacht, doch mit der schlechteren Qualität hat es immer noch 55 mb.Nun habe ich versucht alle Bilder als webp abzuspeichern und in das Dokument einzubauen.Interessanterweise ist der Bilderordner von 622mb auf 83mb geschrumpft. Die iD Datei hingegen ist sogar größer geworden. von 193,3mb auf 297,5mb. Das PDF ist mit den webp Bildern bei gleicher Exporteinstellungen nur 1mb kleiner.Habt ihr eine Idee, warum der Unterschied in die andere Richtung ging beim Dkument und warum das PDF nicht um ein Vielfaches kleiner ist als mit psd.jpg, png und jpg Bilder.

Hi everyone,This might be a super basic question, but should my background extend all the way to the bleed? This is for a book project, and I am not using any specific background color. The backound is just the overall layout.    

I am having issues with spell-check, which is changing the language it references the dictionary against. Yesterday it was French, and today in a new document it's Finnish. I have checked my main language preferences and they are as they should be. I have also changed the language in the spell-check settings, where I can see the language has changed. However, as soon as I change it here and close the dialog box, it reverts to the wrong language again. My version of Indesign is up to date, so this must be a bug. 

In version 20.2, I can not perform a Data Merge without InDesign crashing.Luckily, my laptop is not updated, and using the same files in InDesign version 20.0.1 works fine. Is anyone else having problems with this?

Pleas stop makeing things worse.i just spent 2h trying to update indesign.   creative cloud desktop still tells me no internet. the web site thinks i read french. i lucked into some google link that would directly tell cc desktop to install indesign.   read several error logs (at least you have them now)   and then once i finally get my clients file open and exported. i get some spam banner to try some other adobe garbage.....   why why why do you insist on making it more crappy.?     <Title renamed by MOD>

This may be a lame question, but I have a requirement from a client that I need to export interactive PDF out of InDesign that when opened in Acrobat shows the PDF/UA Compliance as set. I searched the DOM but could not find any such property. So the question is, is this possible at all to do from InDesign? Is this really just about setting the property as shown in the Acrobat interface?

Because of the way that InDesign is choosing to balance the footnotes, there is a huge gap on this page (the second screenshot shows the page after with the offending footnote). I already have allowed split footnotes. Any suggestions on how to force more of the text on to this page to avoid the huge white space? Thanks!

Hello,In my C++ code I am using the character kTextChar_FrameBoxBreak to make my text jump to the next chained/linked box, and kTextChar_ColumnBreak to make text jump to the next column, and both work fine.But I cannot find the equivalent character to make text jump to the next cell of a table.In the InDesign UI typing TAB moves the insertion point to the next cell, but using a tab char in my code does not jump to the next cell (all tabs are placed in the same initial cell).Does anyone know what the code is ?Very best regards,Olivier

Windows 11/64 InDesign 20.2I am working on an eight-page catalog in which a problem cropped up on one of my pages. At the bottom of the the third page a gap is appearing in the text when located on the page. When I pull the text off the page, it aligns perfectly. (see attachnent) I am at my wit's end trying to fix the problem. I have used InDesign since version two and have exhausted all of my knowledge.Can someone please explain what I have done and how to fix it?Thanks to those who know more than me,Joe 

I am creating a book listing in Adobe InDesign, where each book title needs a hyperlink assigned. I copy the links from Excel to InDesign using **Window > Interactive > Hyperlink**. Can someone help me automate this process, possibly with a script? Thanks!

Bonjour à toute la communauté, Je viens ici en espérant trouver de l'aide. Depuis plusieurs mois (voire plus… ^^) je suis à la recherche d'une solution (faut-il encore que ça existe) pour exporter mes pages sous forme de "planche contact" histoire d'avoir un chemin de fer et une visualisation de toutes les planches d'un coup. Je ne sais pas si ma demande est claire mais cela le sera peut-être plus avec un exemple en PJ. Par avance merci. 🙂 

Hi I've been having this happen quite a bit. Most of the time, I can create a frame and type in it no problem. But sometimes for no reason that I can tell, the text will only go to the top left of the document. I haven't put a text box there and I haven't clicked the cursor there so I don't understand it. I've googled but can't find a solution. The frame I want to type in is definitely selected. Swatches only work for me sometimes too, and I follow all instructions. Is this just a thing with InDesign - that weird stuff just sometimes happens for no reason even though you're following all the rules?  Also it has stopped allowing me to undo previous actions, say after I have taken 10 actions, which I have had no previous problem doing. I try restarting when this kind of stuff happens but it doesn't resolve.

I have issue when i click on a specific zone of the down-right corner of InDesign window document (cf screen capture). It appears that any other edge of the window works fine (MacOs Finder management?), but when i click on the red area, the window immediately upscale about 10-15%. the click still pressed, the window is still resizing.It has been a while, several versions ago (InDesign/MacOs, iMac i9 2020 or Mac Studio M1 Max) since i encounter this, but nothing fixed evec since.—> Same issue with single screen Mac Studio M1 Max—> Same issue on iMac 2020 Intel i9—> No issue on MacBook Pro 14" M2 pro / same MacOS / Same InDesign. Has anyone ever noticed this issue before ?

Hello, I am working on a large catalog file and on various pages, elements are appearing/disappearing at random. Sometimes I can still see their bounding boxes, sometimes not. Sometimes I can select them, sometimes not. Nothing is locked, none of these things are on master pages, nothing is in hidden or locked in layers. I can't figure out what is triggering it and it's driving me crazy!  Restarting doesn't help. I've done the export as IDML to try and clear any bugs and that seems to help for a little while, but eventually it starts happening again. My app is up to date. The only plugin I have running is EasyCatalog. I attached a quick screen recording for reference. Please help!!

Hi, I have two questions regarding the Indesign opening dialog that I can´t figure out by myself: 1.) When you open a document that has a different profile attached than the working space and your color management policies are put on "convert to working space" the native colors are converted (the numbers change) as you would expect.But when you activate "Ask when opening" and you choose "convert" and the working space profile in the opening dialog (so basically the same thing) the numbers of the native colors aren´t changed. Why is that? 2.) I also dont understand the difference between "activate all profiles" and "keep assigned profiles" under placed content (actual phrasing might be different, I translated it from german) It doesn´t seem to make any difference. Thanks in advance!

Hallo liebe Community,ich hoffe, hier kann mir jemand bei meinem Problem weiterhelfen, da ich bislang weder in der Hilfe-Dokumentation noch in bestehenden Forenbeiträgen eine Lösung finden konnte. Falls es bereits einen passenden Eintrag zu meinem Anliegen gibt, wäre ich für einen entsprechenden Link sehr dankbar.Zu meinem Problem: Ich möchte gerne InDesign auf meinem PC installieren. Laut meines Creative Cloud Accounts ist dies auch möglich. Ich habe die Setup-Datei von der offiziellen Adobe-Website heruntergeladen. Sobald ich diese allerdings durch einen Doppelklick starten möchte, öffnet sich lediglich die Adobe Creative Cloud-Anwendung, und es folgen keine weiteren Anweisungen zur Installation. Auch eine automatische Installation startet nicht.Ich habe zudem festgestellt, dass InDesign in meiner Creative Cloud nicht als auswählbares Produkt angezeigt wird, was mich ebenfalls irritiert, da es in meinem Abo enthalten sein sollte. InDesign is insisting on printing duplex, even when the "two sided" checkbox under "Printer" is unchecked. All my other programs print single sided.  What is the fix for this?

Hallo,ich versuche ein Katalog d.h. ein großes Dokument mit über 450 Seiten und vielen Bildern zu exportieren. Aber nach dem Prozess, welches min. 20 Minuten dauert, kommt eine Meldung, dass der PDF Export fehlgeschlagen ist. Als mögliche Problemlösung wird mir neben dem OK-Button dieser Link angeboten. Aber da komme ich auch nicht weiter.Nachdem ich dann mit OK bestätigt habe, kommt dann eine weitere Meldung:Was ich auch nicht verstehe, da das gesamte Dokument nur bis Seite 458 geht.Ich habe es mit Interaktiven, sowie Druck-PDFs versucht. In der Vergangenheit hatte ich schön öfters damit Probleme. Mal funktioniert der Export und manchmal nicht. Weiß jeden Rat zu schätzen. VG,Sahin

How do I copy and paste something so that it appears in the same position on a different page?

Hi, at the moment I'm importing data from a excel file to a frame via "File -> Place -> "Show import options". In the dialog window I choose the named "cell range" and my predefined "table style". I'm looking for a script which automates this process.For example: In my excel file I have 10 tables (predefined and named via the "cell range") and in my Indesign document I have 10 frames. I think the best approach would be to make it like placing images in Indesign where you can choose 10 images and then put it to frames one image after the other. Is there any way I could do this with a script? Thank you very much in advance.
