Hey everybody, I'm a beginner and I recently discovered the pan behind a mask tool. Works fine so far, but the animation behind the mask looks very stiff. When I try to make it smoother in graph editor, both mask and element start to move. Does anyone know what i am doing wrong here? Thank you!

Hello, I have a vector map consisting of cmall circles ( a lot | 2000 of them).When I import it in After effects it's impossible to work with/make shapes from Vector layer/... I would like to put an expression on all circles that randomly pops the scale to 100% But now I can't even work with the circles. Is there Anything I can do? 

Hello!  I have few questions/issues regarding After Effects 2020 v17. If anyone could possibly provide me some insight, answers and/or solutions that would be greatly appreciated. I'm noticing a few issues with fonts. When selecting font choice under 'Character', at least 2 different instances (in the last 2 days) where installed fonts are nowhere to be found/seen in After Effects, but visible in every other application (i.e. Photoshop and Illustrator). I read a suggestion someone had made regarding the issue (which apparently isn't new or uncommon?) to uninstall and reinstall the font, to which does work. I'm not sure why this is now starting to happen, but it's frustrating to say the least.  The other issue at hand is when opening a template that alerts me to a missing font, when I search for missing fonts in the document - nothing appears? The search feature worked fine in the previous version v16.1.3 - I'm not sure why now it doesn't? I'm working on an iMac

Hi I have script, which downloads texts from external api url and fill this texts into project TextLayer/TextDocument components.I have problem with some glyphs, that are not displyed correctlyfor example string from api (content utf8) is Rázová vlna by DRÉNis displayed in TextDocument as  R√°zov√° vlna by DR√âN part of code is simple: var textProp = layer.property("Source Text"); var textDoc = textProp.value; textDoc.text = content.value; // <--- here is content downloaded from api textProp.setValue(textDoc);  How can I fix this?When I write characters manually all is OK.Data from script are valid characters.Have you some hints for me?

I created a simple video - a black rectangle moves on a white background. And after reviewing a lot of instructions, I did everything step by step. It doesn't give anything. The site is still transparent. What am I doing wrong?

I have a scene in C4D lite that includes an animated camera aligned to an instance of a spline. The position property in the Align to Spline panel is keyframed, and the camera movement behaves as expected within C4D lite and looks the same in AE via Cineware. I also have a couple of Z-axis rotation keyframes on the camera itself, and all looks good until I extract the C4D camera in Cineware so that other elements there will react as if they're in the 3D scene. When I do that, I only see the camera's Z-axis rotation having an effect on the AE elements, and I only see dynamic keyframe data on the Z rotation. The spline based motion doesn't carry over. Is there something I'm not doing or is there a way to bake in that position data? I can't find any information on this that I haven't already tried. I've been having way too many issues with after effects. To list them all would take a life time to read but I'm TRYING to update after effects and it shows this:and this:Which is confusing af because all of my software is up to date. I've cleared as much storage space and disk space, files, and cleared all media and cache in my computer and after effects. I was about to render an edit and I closed out of it because I wanted to save it because I don't trust ae not to crash so I save my projects just in case. Anyway, when I went to save and close it, it gave me the (3 :: 0) error. I've gotten this before and I had to reset my preferences. I had to quit ae at that point, and I lost ALL of my progress. I've had my computer since December of 2023 and I'm getting really tired of missing footage, updates that won't work, crashes, and full storage. I ALSO have been editing on ae for 2-ish years and haven't been able to install ANY plugins except for saber by videocopilot. I can't get blurmocu

When I add deep glow to images, it turns transparent. Its fine with 'unmuly' unchecked but obviously I don't want a black BG. any ideas?

Hi.In new After Effects 17.5.1I've accidentally rotated my scene using the new 3D 'rotate around the cursor' tool.I don't have a camera in my scene.How do I reset my orientation back to the default zero so that I am looking face on again??

Hi everyone,I have a question regarding the process of creating Essential Graphics Assets. I mainly work with After Effects that was installed in the English version and have been creating assets for Essential Graphics which are shared with my colleagues. They, however, use German Version of Adobe Apps and my question is if the different App-language version may affect how well the Essential Graphics assets function? Do the assets created in my english AE version translate well and work as intended if used on the german version of other Adobe Apps?Thanks for the help and I am looking forward to your informative replies. Cheers,Erwin

Hi! I've been trying to manipulate a particle path by dragging the red circle on the video preview to edit the position value of the particle to make a smooth motion path. However, it makes very jagged lines and doesn't get that smooth transition between two positions. Instead, it makes a hard angle and two straight lines. Does anyone know how to make these smoother? Is it something to do with Bezier? Anything helps, thanks! It's this red thing I'm moving and making the path with but it doesn't make it smooth. Anybody know why or hot to fix it?

Hey Guys, got question about Mocha tracking. I have made a composition with mocha tracking screen where everything looks fine for me. Screen 1 example.But when I put that composition into the another composition the screen is shifted, Screen 2. (red line) I Don't get why it's happening, thanks for the help!

Hi my question is pretty basic but I couldn't find anything about it so please bear with me I'm an absolute beginner. Now that I finished each seperate composition of my project I would like to merge them together to a finished video. What is the best way to do that? I thought I could just put them in the renderqueue one after another and select the same output file, but after effects is not accepting that. I also tried rendering the compositions individually and merge the videos afterwards via Keyframe Assistant => Sequence layers. But that also didn't work for me or I just did it wrong. Sorry for the basic question but I'm actually lost atm. Thanks for helping me out!

About a year ago, I shared a method for After Effects to allow you to add bold to part of a text layer using Text Animators. Trouble was, it was faking bold using rather than an actual bold font. But with After Effects 2025 and the new Per Character styling via expressions, you can now do it for real.   I break down how to use the new expression, then I add some slider controls to make it easier to adjust. Hello folks,I never seen this issue before.When I add a Light to the Composition my 3D layers render black.I tried changing the Light parameters and the only thing that makes any difference is when I switch to Ambient Light.When using Spot, Point or Parallel the 3D layers change to black.It doesn't matter if I move the Camera or Light around. I'm running AE 17.7.0 (Build 45) on Mac. I appreciate any help. Rodrigo

I have a perplexity.ai generated script that changes selected KF from linear to auto Bézier. This bypasses the cumbersome right-click and menu clicking needed to do this manually, plus it's now a KB shortcut for me, so even easier. What I need now is a script to change selected KF's from any other interpolation (auto Bézier, continuous, etc.) to linear interpolation. So far, AI can write the conversion from linear to auto Bézier, but not the reverse of that.Any help or solution would be appreciated? ...or, Dummy needs to know the KB shortcut AE already has that does this... 🙂AI script that goes from linear to auto Bézier, but AI cannot write a script to go back the other way. I am trying to more realistically control the level of grain in shadows/mids/highlights; the Add Grain effect has controls for shadow/mid/highlights, but I find it difficult to get the right falloff.  What would be the right way to do this with curves?  Alternately, it would also be good to know how to do this right with a film grain overlay clip. I have tried using a luma key matte but in this case too, it is difficult to get the smooth falloff, and it would seem better to do it with curves; I'm sure I'm not doing it right.  As a point of reference I just re-watched the late, great David Lynch's Mulholland Drive (shot and printed on film), and noticed the tremendous amount of grain in the mids, with zero grain in the shadows and zero in the fully blown out highlights such as headlights. Hi!I'd like a 3D Null to get the orientation of 3D a layer. (without parenting, it would be too easy )I've tried a lot of solutions, through orientation, rotations, both combined... some results are close, but never perfect.If I'm right, orientation is computed before rotations...I think the simplest way would be with auto-orientation, or the lookAt() expression on orientation, wich gives me correct X and Y orientations, and then get an expression on zRotation to get a "full" orientation.But what would it be? How can I get the Z orientation in layer space?Any idea will be appreciated!François
